SPRING/SUMMERWelcome to IKEA’s Spring/Summer 2017 lookbook. During this season we have identif ied four key trends that will dominate the interiors space. We will see the return of traditional floral patterns in Nostalgic Floral, 90s inspired graphics and colours in the Digital Wave trend, vibrant products with global influences in the Encounter theme and minimalistic patterns and shapes in the Fine Geometric trend. Although all these trends have a very signature look, at IKEA we believe that you don’t need to make big changes to stay up-to-date with the latest trends. Simply making some small additions to the home can make a big difference, so we’ve included both big and small items to fit those looking for a full overhaul or those who just want to invite a new feel in to their interiors.



ENCOUNTER



In an increasingly interconnected and globalised world, design becomes a cultural melting pot for inf luences from every continent, rather than taking inspiration from just one area in isolation. The ENCOUNTER trend presents a juicy palette of colours, that are layered together to show the vibrancy of the world whilst this consideration for the earth sees natural, raw materials also having a strong focus.

Jennifer Lowe, Design Leader at IKEA UK and Ireland says:

“A mixture of raw materials such as bamboo, hemp and linen combine with richly-coloured patterns and tactility to bring artisanal practices from around the world to life in the ENCOUNTER trend. Our newest range, JASSA, takes inspiration from Indonesia with materials of water hyacinth, bamboo and seagrass which can be paired with richly coloured throws such as GURLI to create this worldly look.”

FINE GEOMETRIC



Geometric patterns continue to attract our attention. This season focuses on a more minimalist aesthetic compared to the bold 70s inspiration from which the trend hails. Metal outlines and lattice ef fects make the FINE GEOMETRIC trend timeless and more delicate, creating an oasis feeling that takes us away from the always-on hurry of the technological world.


“Small details are the focus for the FINE GEOMETRIC trend as it moves from the bold patterns of previous years to strong, yet delicate, lines for Spring/Summer 2017. Lattice-work is a big focus, as seen on the BRUNSTA pendant lamp, as are f ine-lined repetitive patterns such as HOVSLUND rug and minimalist tables with a simple silhouette like VITTSJÖ complete the look.”

DIGITAL WAVE



The DIGITAL WAVE trend nods to the bold and abstract graphics of the 1990s. Patterns and prints in this trend are inf luenced by early videogame graphics and bold artwork to produce a retro yet contemporary look. Bright pastels, neon’s and rich, saturated colours create vibrant designs that stand out and pop.


“Bold, bright and brave combine in the digital wave trend to create a retro aesthetic that can be played out across an entire room or enjoyed through light touches. The bright patchwork of colours available in the LIXHULT cabinets are a perfect way to create the look in an impactful way, whilst the new PS 2017 candlesticks are a more subtle way to bring the look in through accessories.”

NOSTALGIC FLORAL



Florals are a staple Spring/Summer look that have continued popularity, recurring each year with a new slant. The trend signif ies that the season has f inally changed and in Spring/Summer 2017 f loral patterns will embrace a more traditional style. Classic and NOSTALGIC FLORAL designs will be the focus this season and will make an appearance on textiles, crockery and decorations.


“The Nostalgic Floral trend brings back dainty floral patterns which have been missing from the home for the last few seasons. When paired with block whites or greys in particular, this season’s f lorals will bring a classic look that doesn’t become old-fashioned. Big statements are best made on bedding such as ROSENRIPS or through monochrome patterns on sofas like STOCKSUND, whilst smaller touches can be made with a patterned cushion covers or even the texture on a candle such as FULLGOD.”
