Outcome: Organisations delivering recreation pursuits and activities have the knowledge and skills they need to be able to recognise diversity within their community, and successfully deliver inclusive activities and initiatives that increase the participation of people with disability.

Community Vision and project partner Gundaring WA will work with the local communities of Quairading and Badjaling to codesign recreational activities that will provide social connections and supports which link to positive health and wellbeing outcomes for participants.

Development Disability WA (DDWA)

- Primary focus is on organisations delivering aquatic recreation services and secondary focus is on people with Complex Communication Needs and challenging behaviour.

Professional development for aquatic recreation staff

Developmental Disability WA will partner with Microboards WA to develop an innovative, practical and contemporary online toolkit for staff delivering recreation activities across a broad range of aquatic settings, with a focus on inclusion of people with complex communication needs and/or challenging behaviour. The online toolkit will consist of tutorials, tips, FAQs, a video and/or other learning tools.

The SICWA project provides advice and mentoring on effective engagement and participation opportunities for people with disability, including ATSI and CALD people.

- PWD Deafblind Camp

This project will engage a variety of organisations including the West Australian Tandem Cycling Advisory Council, Department of Sport and Recreation, Thai Chill Fremantle to create a wider choice of recreational pursuits for people with single and dual sensory loss. This will be achieved through the delivery of a three-day camp for participants with sensory impairments. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a variety of community-based activities in one location with the appropriate communication and mobility support.

All Abilities Recreation Project

Knowledge and skill development sessions will be run with targeted mainstream organisations to assist them to make their existing recreation activities inclusive of people of all abilities. This will include the provision of innovative universal multi-recreation activities which will be used at Come and Try Days for the local community.

Wize Therapy - Children and young adults with disability who are 10-16 years old.

Extended Wize Wheels Program: A Pilot Project

A bike riding initiative that provides an interim specialist bike/trike assessment, fitting and group training service for people with disability. It is offered within the community with engagement of local shire and recreational officers and aims to maximise use of local community riding facilities including specialised bike pathways and bike parks.

Getting Ready to Work

Down Syndrome Association of WA will develop and test a ‘Getting Ready to Work’ course to help people with intellectual disability gain knowledge, skills and confidence to set and achieve their employment goals. The course will use a discovery approach underpinned by Customised Employment principles to help explore their interests, employment aspirations, and develop skills to find and keep employment.

Carers WA - Employment providers Disable the Label Employer Program

Increase economic independence of people with disability by providing employers with support, knowledge and skills, as well as a practical toolkit to build knowledge and confidence to employ and support people with disability. CWA will engage with private enterprise and non-government organisations, Local and State Government alongside business groups such as Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and Local Content Officers (LCO).

Address real solutions to barriers of local employers when hiring people with disability

To address major barriers to employment for people with disability, including inaccessible work environments, misconceptions, stigma and discrimination. This will be done through education, clarifying misconceptions, and raising awareness on supports available to employers, through structured workshops: “speed-dating” and breakfast sessions.
