We’ll another season of riding here in the Midwest is coming to a close but there is always something to do and we’re all busy little something’s, aren’t we.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our second year for the BIG Border Rally which was held on September 11 in Twin Lakes, WI. The WI Chapters of the VOA - Veterans of America M/C earned the honor of posession of our Traveling Trophy this year and following the “Almost Brothers Band”, Eric Buell dropped by for a late night jam with “Good Time Charlie” and “Doctor Snake Oil”. The Christian Motorcycle Association members from Northern Illinois and Southern Wis-consin were very helpful in supporting this year’s event again. As are many organizations in our area, they are a wonderful example to all who ride and the general community on what good people motorcyclists are. Thank you so much.

I’m looking forward to and planning for next year’s event. The weekend right before Labour Day is our new weekend and we’re looking forward to working with any groups or organizations that will be planning runs that weekend to land at the BIG Border Rally. The Mission of the BBR is to bring everyone together, to a Multi-Brand Rally at a great venue with great music and lots more. So many runs overlap (you can read more about that in Judy “Chooch” Kaenel’s article - “Kneeze in the Breeze” on page 34) and conflict with other rides throughout the season limiting the success of the individual run(s) due to competition. If your planning a ride for the weekend before Labour Day, plan on having your party at the campgrounds in Twin Lakes at the BIG Border Rally where the bands and food and vendors are already set-up. We will work with organizers to provide passes to the BBR for your rides participants. And your “Reason to Ride” will benefit from the participants from the other rides who will join everyone at the end of the day at the BBR. Let me know if you would like more info. Ah, strength in numbers. I can’t think of a better and safer way to bring everyone together and still support everyone at the same time.

There are plenty of riding days left in the season, but if you don’t even want to think about putting your bike away, we have a couple suggestions for you in this issue. How about a one way rental to a warmer destination? You can save a ton on the rental ex-pense and just fly home. Milwaukee Mike has an article on page 26 about some desti-nation rides in warmer areas of the country and he is offering some great discounts to our readers. Or plan on shipping your “two wheeled alter-ego” to Arizona this coming March for Arizona Bike Week. Make your plans now with T-N-R Bike Events (page 37) before all the spaces are taken. You may catch up with me on that ride.

In this issue I hope you enjoy some of my personal favorite riders photo’s on page 8, our regular Featured Bike Page. And our GOTCHA pages this issue, like our cover, are all about the ride. But don’t worry the Featured Bike on Page 8 will return in the next issue along with new featured articles and a Special Cover. So enjoy the rest of the 2010 riding season and look forward to the Winter Issue 2011 to find out what going on locally in the January, February and March.

Remember to visit all of our advertisers (tell them we said hello) and visit our our timely web sites for Illinois and Wisconsin at www.bikerinformationguide.com for calendar post-ings, articles from past issues and the B.I.G. archives and Gallery pictures from this year and last year.

As always your comments and suggested are always welcome, I hope you enjoy this issue. Live, Laugh, Love and Ride..... Jnfr

Hello Everyone. When I started Biker Information Guide in 1997,

almost 13 years ago, I have always wanted to open more magazines covering many other topics. Biker Information Guides is proud to introduce its most recent expansion into an exciting and more diver-sified line of Information Guides.

We are proud to welcome Brian McCollom and Craig Kennedy as partners in a new company called, The Information Guides coming soon, such products as College Information Guides, Art and En-tertainment Information Guides, RV-Marine Information Guide and many more!

Both Brian and Craig enter into the relation-ship with over sixty years in combined entre-preneurial experience. They are partners in the Entourage Design Centers, a new and dynamic sole source design center concept, so let’s all please welcome Brian & Craig.

We will be going nation wide just like we are doing with Biker & HotRod with Franchise opportunities with all the magazines we will be doing.

Biker & HotRod Information Guide is still a family owned company and owned by just me and my daughter Kelly.

I want to tell all the readers, advertisers, my family and my best friend’s thank you so much for all the support you guys have given me over all these years!

The riding season can be short here in the Midwest but with help from Lake Shore Harley-Davidson you can keep riding until the first snowflake hits the ground. We carryHarley-Davidson’s line of heated jackets, vest, pants and gloves that allow you to extend your riding season. Harley-Davidson’s heated gear collection uses Nanowire and Microwire technology to keep you warm and toasty at below zero temperatures. The Nanowire technology uses silvered fibers which are stitched into fabric and then waterproof sealed. The Microwire technology uses hun-dreds of stainless steel wires to give you instant warmth throughout your body.To maximize the benefits of the Harley-Davidson’s heated gear you should try

to keep the liners as close to your body as possible, without it actually touching your skin. You have the option of adjusting the temperature with a single or dual thermo-stat (thermostats are sold separately). The dual control thermostat regulates heat on two heated products independently. Heated liners are designed to be worn under any functional outerwear including the option to zip the liner into Harley-Davidson’s FXRG rid-ing jacket for ultimate performance. Heated clothing is compatible with all Harley-David-

son Motorcycle models; all you need to do is attach the power switch harness of the heated clothing to the battery of the motorcycle. The power switch is an on/off switch that plugs between the connecting harness and the garment that is being worn. For shorter trips, a dual-source heated vest for men and gloves for men and women that are battery operated are also available. All of Harley-Davidson’s heated elements are backed by a lifetime warranty. Whether you are touring through the can-yons in the spring, saving gas by commut-ing to work or treading across the country, Harley-Davidson heated gear offers you longer riding time without the worry of hy-pothermia. Come into Lake Shore Harley-Davidson and see a Motorclothes associate for more information.

In my opinion being a passenger on a motorcycle is the ultimate in trust. We all know that riding a motorcycle is in-herently a risky operation and putting one’s trust in another as a passenger on a motorcycle is the ultimate “leap of faith”. Here are a few things to consider before riding with a passenger. Make sure your motorcycle is capable of riding passengers. Just because it has a passenger seat and foot pegs it does not mean it has the capacity to carry both you and a passenger. If your motorcycle has the capacity make sure you have adjusted the suspension to adequately control and support the additional weight. The addi-tional weight of a passenger will increase your stopping distance so make sure you take that into account. Being a passenger requires that you remain as neutral as pos-sible to the control of the motorcycle. When riding very slowly or when slowing down to stop DO NOT MOVE! A motorcycle is the hardest to control when going slowly and movement by a passenger can upset the balance of the motorcycle. If the pas-senger needs to move they should warn the rider and do so at speeds higher than 30 mph. Riding on twisty roads creates a challenge for the rider and passenger. While the rider has to keep focus on the road the passenger needs to relax and follow the lead of the rider. On larger touring motorcycles the passenger really does not have to do anything in turns and can remain “neutral” while riding through curves. If the passenger cannot remain neutral they should gently lean forward making light contact with the rider and follow their lead. Being a passenger on twisty roads is much like slow dancing with a partner. Just follow the lead of the rider and DO NOT lean in the opposite direction. The best passengers are those poor girls we see “hanging on for

dear life” on the back of the “crotch rockets”. They have not choice but to hang on and follow the lead of the rider. Riding with a passenger can be a very enjoyable or it can be a very difficult one. Work with your passenger to make sure they fully understand what they need to do. Less is more in this case when it comes to what a passenger needs to do! When the rider and passenger are in sync, riding can be a very enjoyable experience. Ride safe!

Well my friends, the riding season is now at its back end. I enjoy riding in the fall because

of the change in colors in scenery along with excellent weather and temperatures. I also enjoy looking at the different motorcycles out on the road and their different personalities – very much like the riders themselves. It is interesting to see how many individuals overdo their rides with accessories, paint and all sorts of things. It’s like, whoa Nelly ease up on the bling, way more than enough already. When is enough, enough? Nothing stirs my heart as when I see a bike that shows personality without being overdone. It has its own identity without any hint of being overdone. Even something as subtle as an exhaust system, it is amazing how many will purchase on name only. I wonder how many individuals really know the tone they are really looking for and how it can affect the overall comfort and pleasure of a ride – especially a long ride, not to mention of course how it looks or will look on their bike . I know precisely what I like and don’t like regarding my motorcycle. I know precisely what I will do and won’t do with my bike. How about our riding? Do you know precisely what type of riding you enjoy and do? And, most importantly how long you can ride before you need to stop and rest? Make it a point to know.

I enjoy 7-10 day rides that run 3k to 4k in length. I absolutely enjoy these the most and consider them as a long trip. Next, the overnight 2-3 day rides. Then of course the all day ride. These are what I strive for and do. Nothing stirs my heart like a ride that I can drink in and ride through back roads out in the country and enjoy every facet of God’s creativity. I work diligently at not letting things get in the way of my rides that bring about tremendous joy and satisfaction. I have been able to cover a little over 64 thousand miles in 2.5 seasons including this year.

Are you finding everything you need? Call 224-788-8100 or visit us on-line

www.BikerInformationGuide.com

I also know precisely what I like and don’t like in a ride when it comes to length, pace, comfort, safety, and overall enjoyment. And what is very important is to know when enough is enough and it is time to rest. It can be the difference of returning home or not. I had the oppor-tunity this summer to do a long distance challenge ride that covered roughly 8k miles in 14 days - Key West Florida to Homer Alaska - the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge – all done on secondary roads. I went through some of the most beautiful scenery you could hope for. I did not make it to Homer, Alaska. I fell asleep while riding in Yukon, Canada and crashed just short of crossing into Alaska – roughly 6.2k miles into the run. You ask how could I possibly do this? Which brings me to the point, when is enough, enough? Fatigue and being tired are very deceiving and are two very key areas to be aware of when you are riding. Rest is a critical factor in riding safely. I had been riding day after day long hours and daylight lasts all the way to midnight in Can-ada. I had been riding for 9 hours straight with an average 45 degree temp and raining steady. After, drying out all the wet clothes, I ate a large cheeseburger and fries and then started up the ride again. The meal kicked in and I began to nod. I should have stopped and rested but kept going thinking that it would go away. I didn’t and I took a final deep nod and the rest is history. My riding season was cut short but I am very thankful to be here to write this article. No matter what type of riding you do – know when enough is enough. If you are feel-ing tired, fatigued then pull over, rest, take a nap. It will make a huge difference in your reaction time. An hour or two of rest can make a huge difference in your safety, comfort, and enjoyment of your ride. Never, ever take rest for granted. Again, know precisely when enough is enough.

Until next time, only you can determine how good you want to be.

Every Harley owner likes to modify their bike and make it their own. Ken Rein-ert was no different. He wanted his own tunes – ’70s and ’80s classic rock – so he loaded his iPod Nano and hit the road. He quickly tired of the Velcro strip mounting his iPod to his windshield, so he began innovating a better mount. Reinert was in the unique position to do so, having spent his past 25 years engineering, designing and manufacturing aerospace and industrial seals. After several months of prototype trial and error, The Rider’s ClawTM was born. The slogan? “Your ride…Your music.”

In no time, his fellow Harley riders were requesting the mounts, and Reinert added an iTouch and iPhone version. Before he knew it, the Rider’s Claw quickly spun into its own business, including dealers all across the country. 2 1/2 years later, Harley rid-ers throughout the U.S. and in 12 countries are sporting Rider’s Claws on their cruisers. “We’ve added so many great testimonials and awesome gallery pictures to our web site; you just have to check them all out”.

The Rider’s Claw is a tight, clean mount and looks like it “belongs on the bike”; consistent with H-D’s quality and appearance. It allows easy access to your extensive iPod play list and is far less cumbersome than changing radio stations or CDs. Available in both show quality CHROME and jet BLACK for a look that will compliment any ride.

By popular demand we’ve also added a custom clamp set that will now allow many of the metric cruisers to mount the Rider’s Claw onto their rides as well. Although this clamp is not required for a Harley mount, it can be used if desired.

As much as the quality and innovation are critical to his product success, Reinert insists he’s in the customer service business. “If you dial our toll-free number, my cell phone rings. “Unless I’m out on a ride, I will always answer it, 24/7. We ship every Rider’s Claw on the day we receive the order.”

As to future plans for Rider’s Claw, Reinert is adding the Cycle Sounds speaker systems and developing mounts to accommodate other phone styles such as the Droid Incredible and Droid X. “I believe if we continue to follow our busi-ness model of exceptional, customer-friendly service, made in the USA quality and fast delivery, the sky’s the limit.”

Well the last quarter of 2010 is here ALREADY. Can you believe it? Time sure goes fast especially when your busy, and not just from getting older, and was I ever busy the past couple of months hitting events in three States (Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin). Well I am not happy in reporting that there is not much in way of EVENTS going on the next few months here in the Heartland. But the sunny side is that the holiday season is all but here AGAIN, which means that the New Year will be here before you know it. And that means the riding season will be getting geared up shortly after that. January 21,22,23 will be the date of the next Heartland Area EVENT, the 28th Annual ROD & CUS-TOM AUTO, MOTORCYCLE & PRODUCT SHOW at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island, Illinois. Now of course all of the riding doesn’t stop just yet. This is the time of year when you can pick from several runs dur-ing the weekend. If you plan it just right you could take part in 3 or 4 of them. Many of them are geared towards brings cheer and happiness to children for the Holidays and to our fellow Americans. Speaking of Americans make sure you vote in the November elections and help bring back GOV-ERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE! Here are some of the events that I plan on being at:October 3, 2010 the Swapmeet in Peotone, IllinoisOctober 17, 2010 the Swapmeet in Kalamazoo, Michigan I hope to see you while I am Out-N-About here in the Heartland and the great Mid-West.Gery Schemel

we must continue remembering those who are still fi ghting the war on terror, and remember to love and work as one team -- Team America!

This brought me to my subject matter and a story I felt compelled to tell. It was about a mother of one of our fi nest who had come home escorted by the PGR, which in most cases means there was a death. But as the mother explained, her son was fi ne and “only lost his leg.” Just hearing such excitement about only losing a leg I asked her if she would kindly repeat herself and again she repeated, “he only lost his leg.” At that moment, I asked her why she was looking to fi nd me when the hero was back at her house, and what I could do for her compared to the sacrifi ces he had made and the heroic acts he had done. Then, with a gleam in her eyes and a smile on her face, she said in the calmest voice, “Mowhawk, even a hero needs a map.”

I always try to surround myself with people who show qualities of being a map so I can keep my focus in times when I may get weak. One of my favorite supporters who is defi nitely in this category, is the law fi rm Hupy and Abraham S.C. They have taken this mapping attitude and put it to good use by being involved in their community and leading the charge to make each person’s life better then it was when they met them.

So now as 9-11 passes and we go into the holiday season, most people will forget all about the day that changed America. People will gather with friends and family, and those moments of 9-11 won’t even cross their minds. But I can only hope that the message of that day will travel with them on their journey, and that they have become a map.

Well, we passed another anniversary of 9-11 and, as always, I was asked to join in several events to mark this tragic moment in history. One of those events was the Cruise 9-11 in Decatur, Illinois. As I was on my way to this event, it dawned on me how important this day was not just for the victims’ families, but for each and every one of us here in America. This also reminded me how important it is to take part in events such as these, as to create unity, and show terrorists around the world that, though we have differences, we still stand united nine years later.

For most events, I prepare my speech wrapped around the theme of the event’s purpose. But this would not happen at Cruise 9-11 as I felt this was a chance to make it much more and show those attending that not only are we remembering those lost on this day, but

At this moment I realized what she was saying and knew my mission was not in vein, but needed to be expanded.

Her statement brings me to this article I am writing and the simple question I would ask each and every one of you. Are YOU ready to be a map? Are you ready to stand up and defend those who defend us, and are you willing to make a difference in the lives of someone less fortunate? Well…are you?

You see, in a country where 1 in 7 are living in poverty and where unemployment stands near 10%, now is the time when we all can make a difference and be a map for those who need the strength to carry on. We can be the ones who provide direction to those who have lost their home, job, or loved one, and help them get back on the path to the American dream. It’s not always easy being a map, but it’s always fulfi lling.

Just got back from a visit out to our newest Street Eagle motor-cycle rental location in Las Vegas and boy…I’ll tell you what…Their tagline “What Happens in Las Vegas, Stays in Las Vegas” could not describe anywhere in the good old US of A any better than this 24 hour a day party city of neon lights although they could have added “and Home of Sex, Drugs (in this case “drugs” meaning every imaginable form of alcohol) and Rock ‘n Roll and no one would challenge their claim! That said, there is some-thing else I discovered out in Vegas my fellow riding brothers & sisters…there are more good rides within a day’s ride of this city than anywhere I have ever been! Want to take a short putt say under 100 miles or so…how about cruisin’ on up to the top of the Hoover Dam or headin’ out in the other direction to Valley of Fire (why do they call it that you ask? Well let’s just say that the description is pretty right on as you will see when you are riding through it). Up for a bit more of a real ride and maybe 1 out-of-town overnight …try out Zion National Park just across the border in Utah and while your at it head a little further North and take a slow ride through Bryce Canyon where you will think you were dropped onto a different planet (remember your first expe-rience of seeing the Badlands?....same kinda sensation). Got a couple of days to get outta town and do some real ridin’?... then checkout the Grand Canyon or even Moab. These rides feel so good you have to keep reminding yourself that ridin a motorcycle is not a sin…it is perfectly legal (unless of coarse you are blastin’ down these beautiful highways pushin’ triple digits but that’s another story). And the best part of this hot tip is that these “like seein’ God” rides I am describing are best taken when the snow is flyin’ or getting ready to fly back here in the Midwest. So what are you waitin’ for? Book as couple plane tickets for you and your girl and or get your best ridin buddy to get off his or her ass and shake those winter time blues with a little 2-wheel holiday and find out for yourself why it is called Sin City.Find the road less traveled and go there…Now.Milwaukee Mike

My name is Chubby and I’m the public relations director for ABATE of Wisconsin Inc. We are a state motorcyclists’ rights organization that has been protecting the rights and freedoms of Wisconsin motorcyclists since 1974. Recently Biker Information Guide asked me to introduce myself and ABATE of Wisconsin in my first of many articles providing riders information about important issues that affect you as riders in Wisconsin. Many people have become more

politically active lately and I hope the trend continues. But to be effective you must be knowledgeable about your subject and that is one of the main reasons we’re still around, ABATE of Wisconsin is the motorcycle issue experts. I welcome opinions and comments to my articles and you are welcome to reach me at [email protected]. That being said, I’d like to teach you a little bit about all the acronyms you may see in the news and what they really mean. The issues we had with the NTSB actu-ally go back to 2008, but it is something that we have been continually working on besides our other lobbying efforts and our work in awareness, education, and safety. Remember, knowledge is power.

NTSB, NHTSA, FHWA, HIPAA, VMT,FMVSS 218, DOT, AMA, MRF, SMRO, ABATE are just a few of the acronyms you may come across if you regularly read anything to do with motorcyclists’ rights. Even if you aren’t a biker you should recognize at least a few of these. With the exception of ABATE, all of these acronyms mean the same thing in any state that you may travel in. All of them directly impact bikers, whether we know it or not. Knowing what these acronyms mean and how they affect our lives is one of the many benefits of being a member of a states motorcy-clists’ rights organization (SMRO).

In Wisconsin, ABATE stands for A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Quite a mouthful to swallow, but every part of it has deep roots. Recently, ABATE of WI sent a delegation to help the Motorcycle Rid-ers Foundation (MRF) lobby our congress-men in DC to write letters to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) asking them to reconsider their recommendations to congress and use their crash analysis skills to really look into the root causes of motorcycle crashes and find ways to avoid crashes, not just crash safer.”Totalitarian” starts to make sense when you consider that almost all the data collected by the NTSB came from flawed National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics that fail to recognize the sharp rise in motorcycle registrations that go along with our rising fatality rate. The data obviously didn’t come from the two day symposium they had with motorcyclists or the six motorcycle accidents that

they actually investigated. I’m sure no one from the NTSB took the time to hop on a motorcycle and actually see some of the problems that confront many of us on a daily basis. Wearing a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218 (FMVSS 218) com-pliant helmet is not the silver bullet to motorcycle safety. And, you have to wonder if a mandatory helmet law would happen nationwide and show no significant reduc-tions in fatalities, what would be next? Airbags, seatbelts, training wheels, roll cages? Seems ridiculous now, but what’s next?

I suppose that with all this talk about helmet laws most people that aren’t familiar with ABATE probably think that it’s the only issue we deal with. Simply not true. In Wisconsin, we run a motorcycle awareness program called Share the Road which teaches new drivers how to better interact with motorcyclists on our roadways. We have a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) endorsed rider education program called Safe Rider Inc that teaches several hundred students a year how to ride. We send delegates to Washington DC to work with not only the MRF, but also the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) on motorcycle related road safety, insurance, and discrimination issues. We are part of many conferences nationwide, most recently taking part in the Motorcycle Travel Symposium which discussed solutions to the meaningless Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) statistics that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) currently compiles. We’ve convinced all of our congressmen to sign on to fix a loophole in the Health Insurance Parity and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that allows motorcyclists to be denied health insurance while riding. And the list goes on.

If you never knew what ABATE was about, I hope you have come away with a better understanding now. It may not be all about helmets, but it is all about freedom. If this article has sparked your curiosity, please go to our website at www.abatewis.org and learn more about the laws that affect our lifestyle. Vigilance is the eternal price of freedom.

Every time you turn around there is a bike run or event supporting this charity or that char-ity and its enough to make your head spin ala Exorcist style. When each and every weekend of the riding season is packed full with charitable rides, how does the generous biker choose which to attend? My biggest pet peeve and cause for my E-Venting is the overload of charitable rides. I know that is not the most popular opinion, but come on! It’s almost like we have the Lifetime Channel Disease of the Week rides and it is overwhelming! I think that somewhere in the past 10 years, the rest of the world caught on that bikers are by far the most generous individuals in the world, and to be honest they are capitalizing on that! Seriously! There is a ride for almost every organ in the body so how do we choose? By being smart about the charities we get involved with that’s how.

The most efficient charities spend at least 75% of their budget on their pro-grams and services and less than 25% on fundraising and admin fees (Tip: check out their IRS 990s). Now I don't want your club or organization to get too hung up on administration fees and expenses of a charity. Believe me; your event/run is going to incur expenses and plenty of them! The most im-portant thing to do is ask questions. A great heart-tugging story is no longer enough to warrant charitable support. Find out what that charity does with the dollars raised and how it is spent as well as success stories. If a charity can't accurately explain who it is or what it does, then move on. The Biker-Place is too crowded and there are many charities that can explain exactly why our hard earned dollars are needed.

Also, ask if a representative from the charity can come out to your meetings to explain to your members about their organization and answer questions that may arise without hesitation. A good charity will attend the event or run as well. Not only does this give your members a chance to interact with the powers to be but feels good to know who your money is going to.

Finally, be aware of how many runs are going on when setting up the date for your charity ride. Too many rides benefiting the same organization is a sure fire way to turn off bikers. There is nothing wrong with joining forces with another club or organization to have a combined event helping out one char-ity instead of a poorly attended one just because you picked the same date as someone else. So I hope these tips help a bit and remember DuKane Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois’ Toy and Food Run is on October 10th. See? I can shamelessly plug my event can't I?

Recently I had a customer come in and ask me about shocks, and when I thought he should change them. In one of my earlier articles I mentioned changing shocks at a certain mileage, he said he couldn’t tell if they were worn or not but wanted to check and see, and asked if I would ride his bike and see what I thought. So after doing a service that it was in for and having to test ride it anyway, I rode the bike. When I returned from the test ride I told him that the bike rode and handled fine but when I started it and drove around for a little bit I noticed a whining noise coming from the cam gear cover, being that the bike was an evolution and had close to 30,000 miles on it, I asked him if he ever had any motor work done such as a cam and pushrods. He said he hadn’t being that it was an evo and knowing that the cam bearings weren’t the best part on the bike, I suspected that it was the problem. I explained to him that if it was left to get worse it could cause major damage to his engine, he agreed and said to do the work.

The point I'm trying to make is not to have your cam bearing noise checked, but occasionally (even if you do your own service) to have someone else take your bike for a ride, not just a shop mechanic, it could be your buddy just to see or hear a problem you can’t. When you ride the same bike, especially if you ride allot or everyday you begin to get used to little noises and rattles, the way the bike handles or runs, a fresh perspective from someone from the outside looking in so to speak is always a good thing. They’ll notice things that you wouldn’t normally realize, like a sloppy throttle, a misadjusted clutch, or in this case an engine noise that could cause major damage. I could go on and on about this problem or that problem or did you check this or did you check that, by the time I was done listing the problems and service jobs that could be done, you would never get a chance to ride.

I always try and give you a tech tip that helps you spend less money on service and repairs not just telling you when to spend more money on your bike. In this customers case the work was more costly than his regular service charge, but spending an extra few hundred dollars now saved him what could have been thousands if the bearing had failed and went thru the engine taking out the oil pump or worse, so don’t think that asking a mechanic or a friend to ride your bike and give their opinion on how your bike runs or drives is embarrassing, it’s not. It’s just one more way to be safe and make owning a motorcycle just that much more of a enjoyable experience.
