Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness in Orange County
SUCCESS STORYSam, Michelle, and Sophia
Sam, Michelle, and their daughter, Sophia walked into the armory’s winter shelter resolved to sleep on the floor when they were referred to the Illumination Foundation. Once enrolled in our housing services, the family received:
• Housing assistance and placement
• Case management
• Budgeting and financial literacy
• Mental health counseling
• Workforce development
• Children’s enrichment services
• Medical referrals
• Dental work referral
Sam recently completed a laborer’s apprenticeship and Michelle has graduated from our Medical Assistant Training Program. Sophia, a member of the Illumination Foundation Children’s Choir, looks forward to attending school daily. The family now helps manage one of our emergency houses and finds it rewarding to serve others in need.
HOMELESS FACTSThe Crisis of Homelessness in Orange County
ABOUT ILLUMINATION FOUNDATIONSeven Years of Caring for the Homeless
Studies show that families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in America. This is especially true in Orange County, where one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation creates an immense gap between income and affordable housing. In 2007, the Illumination Foundation was founded to create a safety net for these homeless families by providing ongoing patient-centered housing, healthcare, workforce, and educational services.
Our mission is to provide targeted, interdisciplinary services for the most vulnerable homeless clients in order to break or prevent the cycle of homelessness.
For the past seven years, we’ve committed ourselves to providing the best care possible for the homeless, focusing on services that will assist families into stable housing. By assessing families and individuals as they enter our care, we can identify their unique needs and provide immediate relief when necessary. We utilize public/private partnerships to ensure that our clients are connected to all community resources available to them.
