"In November, Gregg Arscott’s company opened a new $13 million, nearly 50,000-square-foot full-service dealership on 17.5 acres at 199 Freeman Farm Road in Spartanburg County. The new location is off Exit 60 near the intersection of Interstate 85 and Highway 101, just south of BMW Manufacturing Co. Arscott said the dealership is the result of the relocation of The Pete Store’s former dealership in Piedmont — the same store that brought him to the Upstate a decade ago — and the establishment of the company’s Southeast headquarters, which is housed in the new location. Sales, parts, service, finance, and leasing operations are all housed beneath its roof."
"A new industrial business park is headed for a 475-acre tract in western Spartanburg County. Columbia-based Red Rock Developments, in partnership with NAI Earle Furman, announced its plan to develop Smith Farms Industrial Park on several tracts at the intersection of Highway 101 and Reidville Road in Spartanburg County. According to the developer’s proposed site plan, the multimillion-dollar project could yield up to 11 buildings totaling nearly 6 million square feet of Class A space.“Our plan is to come out of the gate with an offering that will meet the needs of the majority of the companies looking in the Upstate,” said Bill Smith, CEO of Red Rock, in a statement."

"Next fall, Clemson University graduate students and Greenville Technical College students will be working together in what the schools hope will be the new national model for workforce development education. The National Science Foundation awarded a $3 million grant to Clemson University’s THINKER program, which stands for Technology-Human INtegrated Knowledge, Education, and Research. THINKER places more than 20 graduate students a year at the Clemson Vehicle Assembly Center housed in Greenville Tech’s Center for Manufacturing Innovation to research human interaction with technology on the assembly line, as well as ways to enhance the work environment."

South Carolina’s manufacturing industry remains above average, receiving an A grade on the 2018 Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card last month. The annual report, which was published by Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research and Conexus Indiana, ranks states in categories “most likely to be considered by site-selection experts for manufacturing and logistics firms” and those used for research on economic growth, according to a news release. Industry health was measured by “the share of total income earned by manufacturing employees in each state, the wage premium paid to manufacturing workers relative to the other states’ employees, and the share of manufacturing employment per capita.”
