Image of M42, the Orion Nebula, taken December 7 2007 during an SFU starry-night gathering. This full colour image is a roughly 5-minute integrated exposure, taken with the physics department's 8" Meade LX200R telescope, and DSI II color one-shot CCD camera, with a focal reducer at about f/5. Image processing was done to reveal the subtle details in the nebula, stretching the contrast enough so as not to overexpose the “trapezium”, four tightly-grouped stars near the centre of the nebula. For more information on our public starry-night events, please go to www.sfu.ca/starrynights .
