The Partners 2013 Penny Tonn Award

“A lot of our Members are held to high standards of service during their daily interaction with guests, and their experience with us here at Partners should be nothing short of exemplary,” said Selina Sites, Training Specialist at Partners. As the 2013 recipient of Partners’ Penny Tonn Award, Selina’s commitment to the Members has been an amazing asset to the Partners family.

Coming full circle to her professional goal, the knowledge Selina gained over the years provided her the preparation and opportunity to join a team that was responsible for helping to train Partners

Cast Members to serve other fellow Cast Members. “The opportunity came up sooner than I had expected, but I chose to seize the chance to do what I felt I could do from my

first day at Partners and am very happy and fulfilled in doing so,” Selina continued.

The theme of service has not only played out in Selina’s professional life, but it

has also taken a long-lasting place in her family’s life as well. Volunteering with Disney VoluntEARS

is something she holds dear and participates in graciously with her husband and daughter.

“Knowing that together we really can make a difference is motivation enough, but when you look back at the work that was completed, and its impact, there is literally no price tag I can place on that,” Selina said.

Members in several service positions, she settled in a position that would be one of many opportunities leading her to professional and personal growth.

“In prior leadership roles, I identified a strong desire that I had to teach others. Working with co-workers and having the opportunity to teach them was my favorite part of every role I had ever held. Through this self-awareness discovery, I charted a path to the Training Department,” said Selina.

The Partners 2013 Penny Tonn Award

Although Selina no longer serves Partners’ Members directly, her experience has given her a true understanding of what the Cast Members she trains need on a daily basis. “I know how my role contributes to the team as a whole. Servicing our internal team at Partners indirectly services our Members,” said Selina. Over the years, Selina has successfully merged both sides of her experience and insight to exemplify all that is required of Penny Tonn Award recipients. Her constant Member awareness keeps her focused on maintaining and improving the Partners Experience for Members and Partners Cast Members.

The Woman behind the Penny Tonn Award

Named after Partners previous President and CEO, Penny Tonn began her journey as an hourly Cast Member in Anaheim. While serving Partners Members in a multitude of roles, her hard work, commitment, and dedication eventually landed her in the position as President and CEO. In addition to serving in senior leadership roles with Partners, Penny also took on the role as Ombudsman to echo the voice of the Members and fellow Partners Cast Members. In honor of her commitment to service of the highest level, Partners created

the Penny Tonn Award, which is presented to a well-deserving Partners Cast Member each year.

Keys to Protecting Your Personal Information While on Vacation

• Mind your wallet. Pickpocketing and purse-grabbing may not be commonplace in your hometown, but it might be an everyday occurrence wherever you’re headed.

• Protect your smartphone. Keep your head up when you’re exploring a new place. Also, protect your personal information by adding a password to unlock your phone.

• Consider using a credit card on the road instead of a debit card.

• Be careful when using ATMs. Identity thieves have been known to modify ATMs by adding card skimmer devices to them.

• Think twice when using public Wi-Fi for banking or transactions with your personal information. If you are unsure whether or not a website is secure, look at the address bar. The “s” in the URL address “https://” stands for “secure.”

Those were just a few key items to keep in mind before traveling this summer. In addition to packing your suitcase, take some time and prepare a plan to protect your personal information to ensure a safe and secure vacation. Before you leave home ... • Keep your most important documents in a safe

place. Protect your personal information and valuables in a fireproof safe, including your Social Security cards, birth certificates, and marriage license.

• Place a hold on your mail and newspapers. A stack of newspapers is a giveaway that no one is home. The US Postal Service will hold your mail while you’re away and deliver it all at once or hold it for pick up when you return.

• Alert your credit card companies of your travel plans. A quick call to your card issuer will not only make sure your transactions abroad are approved, it will also help protect against unauthorized use.

Creating magical moments is part of the experience working at the Disneyland Park for many

of the Cast Members. Adrian shared a moment where he and his team turned

a day that may have otherwise ended sooner if it weren’t for the magic of Disney. “We had a family come in with children, and they were just having a hard time that day. We decided to do something special,

so we created a battle scene using a play set we got from one of the

Disney stores in the park. We used Stitch as Captain Barbosa and Mickey as

Captain Jack Sparrow and displayed them on the top of a desert. The kids really loved it and drew some pictures for us to show their appreciation,” said Adrian.

Partners recently had a chance to sit down with Cast Member Adrian Martinez, Assistant Chef at the Blue Bayou Restaurant, and talk about his experiences working at one of the most popular restaurants in the Disneyland Park, where he creates summertime magic with Southern cuisine.

Nestled in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, the Blue Bayou’s ambiance displays one of classic New Orleans charm. Adrian, a Cast Member for nearly ten years and a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, California enjoys creating the signature cuisine that combines spices, colors, and textures for guests from around the globe. “The Jambalaya is one of my favorites because there are so many components to it and when it’s done right it’s beautiful,” said Adrian when asked about his favorite dish to prepare. As the Blue Bayou’s menu is updated every six months, during the summertime,

Taking advantage of some of the great benefits that The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) offers, Adrian joined Partners three months after he was hired. “I have my direct deposit and a variety of banking products with Partners. I also have a Visa Credit Card as well,” said Adrian. When asked why he joined, he stated that “the convenience and Disney connection is what prompted me to join Partners. The fact that it’s so close to work makes it easy to get in and out. I’ve even recruited my brothers in joining the credit union too.”

Award II for demonstrating his very best to the Disneyland Resort guests and fellow Cast Members as a dreamer, creator, and an inspiration. “I was very honored to receive the award. I’ve had the opportunity to do special cuisine such as Vegan Thanksgiving dinners, wine dinners while always pushing my team to create special moments,” said Adrian.

As a Cast Member of TWDC, Adrian continues to grow in terms of both personal and professional goals while creating his very own legacy through his love for cuisine and making dreams come true.

After all the constructing and filming was complete, Michael was pleasantly surprised to have a vibrant

and fully functional backyard space fit for a king. “My absolute favorite feature is the

custom-built patio table with a Korean barbecue countersunk into the tabletop. I often have to cook for dozens of guests, and the design allows my guests to help me out by cooking some food

for themselves. Plus, I love Korean barbecue”, said Michael.

In addition to being a Partners Member since 1999, Michael has also worked for Disneyland’s Entertainment Art Department. After graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, he returned to The Walt Disney Company and furthered his career by landing a job at WDI for over six years. Michael says he’s “loved every minute of it!”

A moment of truth and an exciting opportunity sparked the life of Michael Arana after his wife submitted an application to participate in the DIY show. Shortly thereafter, they received a call from the producer offering them the opportunity to be featured on the show.

Michael took action and promptly applied for a Partners HELOC, which he would use to fund the upcoming project. “I started the process on the Partners website, and I was soon contacted by a Partners Loan Specialist. My experience with the loan process was so incredibly easy and painless,” said Michael. He and his wife were ready in time to begin the process with landscape designer and host Sara Bendrick.

Developing a space for Michael and his wife was a piece of cake for the seasoned show designer. According to Michael, IHMY took into account their personalities, likes and dislikes, and lifestyle before they set out to work on the backyard space. Not to
