IMC The evolution of the species.

The new family of intelligent IMC servoconverterThe new family of full digital IMC servoconverter is a solution designed by ABB Sace SpA – Servo division for Motion Control and Industrial automa-tion. The ultimate DSP components (Digital Signal Processing) enable ABB to implement complex control algorithms and to build higher Motion Tasks in the drive. Thanks to its new compact design, the IMC Series has very small dimensions.

Easy to control, accurate and highly dynamic.

Advanced vectorial control algorithms (Space Vector Modulation) make the axis easy to control both at low and high turns. The performances of the external speed and position loops can be optimized for the mechanical cha-racteristics of the load, thanks to an effective autotuning procedure, which can be performed directly on the machine. Moreover, thanks to special filters, it is possible to eliminate the torsional resonances originated by

the high inertia ratios. Innovations in adjusting the current, speed and position loops fully meet the needs for accuracy, dynamic and repeatability, more and more essentials in every field of application: textile, mechani-cal, packaging...

Connectivity

The fast evolution of production pro-cesses requires a higher flexibility of the automation systems. The ideas of Distributed Control Architectures and Intelligent Servodrives are becoming familiar.

The new IMC is a solution for the nee-ds of OEMs and automation systems and comes in three different versions: IMCP (Profibus DP), IMCC (CanOpen) ed IMCD (DeviceNet). In the “Profibus DP” version, the IMCP servoconverter is perfect for the applications that need to control and organize a high number of axis in real time. The CanOpen-IMCC version is suitable for machines (robot, tools and packaging) which require highly accurate movements and interpola-ted trajectories.

Programmable Motion Tasks

The majority of Motion Control appli-cations do not require axis interpo-lation because trajectories are inde-pendent. Positioning and advanced Motion Control functions can be demanded to the converter.In IMC Series servoconverter, several motion sequences can be program-med:- Zero search sequences (homing)- Absolute positioning sequences- Relative positioning sequences- Speed profiles- Torque reference command

These sequences can be linked to each other, and in case of achie-vement of targets and predefined logical conditions, they can form more complex sequences. All these functions can easily be controlled and organized by machine PLC via digital I/Os or more effectively by means of a fieldbus. They are extremely useful in flexible production and packing systems.

The new browser “ABB Visual Setup” is straightforward and extremely easy to use. It assists the user in selecting a motor, setting parameters in the drive and in Motion Tasks programming.

In order to make the adjustment of axis easier , some functions of the Multichannel Digitizing Oscilloscope, built in “ABB Visual Setup”, have been further developed.

Thanks to a wave generator and to the advanced trigger functions, the tuning of speed loop earnings and the adjustment of the axis are much easier now.

Brushless servomotors series 8C

Permanent magnets NdFeB combined with an optimized configura-tion of active parts provide a great increase in torque density and a decrease in cogging torque. Upon request they are available in the terminals or signal and power connectors versions, built in the motor to reduce overall dimensions.

• Operation temperature: 0÷40 °C, up to 50 °C derating 1% °C of rated value

• Stocking: - 30° ÷ 85 °C• Constructive form: IM B5, IM V1, IM V3, IM B14, IM V18, IM V19• Flange: for any size it is available a standard flange and other op-

tional. • Ventilation: IC-0041 (EN 60034-6) operating in a closed environment,

cooling without fans • Insulation class: F• Protection class: - Motor body: IP54 with terminal box IP65 with connectors - Motor shaft: IP54 standard IP64 with oil seal not assembled (IMV1-IMB5) IP65 upon request• Optionally integrated parking torque. Upon request it is possible to

ABB office in Vittuone is today the reference point for the market of motors “made in Italy”.

ABB Vittuone was well known for the quality of its medium voltage motors, but thanks to its new areas of productions, it became an excellent center of production for all the motors produced in Italy by ABB. Alongside with the traditional production of medium voltage motors, they started producing also low voltage motors, direct current motors and servomo-tors.

Moreover, with a 4,000 m2 warehouse, close to the production areas, ABB Vittuone can dramatically reduce delive-ry times and meet the requests of the customers, even the more demanding ones, thanks to a good logistic, always in connection with the productive areas and with the areas where goods are customized.
