Message from the DG - IHF

Due to the great success of the IMD – IHF 2005 Conference and Exhibition, it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you once again to IMD - IHF DUBAI, which will be held from 22 – 24 April 2007. The focus and the motto of the conference is:” Responding to Medical Challenges”. We have selected three sub-themes related to this motto. The first one will deal with the improvement of health services through accreditation and certification. In many countries, one is in the process of identifying appropriate approaches to this issue. In other countries, trials are already underway. However, in some, such quality schemes are already well established.

The second sub-theme deals with improving quality through recent e-health developments such as electronic medical records, the communication within and between hospitals, as well as of laboratory, radiology and other diagnostic information. The third sub-theme is focusing on the human resources from two perspectives. One is the migration of health workers. In some countries up to 90% of the health workers are immigrants. Sometimes, it is felt that this is needed to be changed to a larger share of nationals. Another perspective to be dealt with is the health of the health workers. From some countries, it is reported that health workers lack good health, more than the average health of the country where they work and live. The three above sub-themes are dealt with in plenary sessions by international as well as regional speakers. In parallel sessions, the participants of the quality-related topics will be able to submit abstracts for the speaker selection of these sessions. Starting two days ahead, a course specializing in rescue, ambulance and emergency work will be running along with the conference.

Finally, I would like to extend to all of you, a great welcome to IMD –IHF DUBAI 2007.

Prof. Per Gunnar Svensson Director General International Hospital Federation
