Come one! Come all! The IHMS Family Picnic is just around the corner. It’s the perfect :me to kick back, put your feet up for a couple of hours, and enjoy each other’s company. There will be barbecued hot dogs, fresh salads and fruit, delicious baking, and a lot of fun, games and prizes! Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair. The only admission charge is that every family supply a home baking (nut free). Solemn Holy Communion Divine Liturgy Congratula:ons to all students who will be receiving their Sacraments of First Confession and Solemn Holy Communion this month. Receiving these ‘sacraments of ini:a:on’ are important milestones in every child’s spiritual journey. It is Immaculate Heart of Mary School’s preference that students receiving these sacraments receive them in their home parish first. The School will have their First Holy Communion Divine Liturgy on Friday, June 3. All parents of First Communicants are invited and encouraged to a9end. The Divine Liturgy will begin at 9:00 A.M., at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Parents’ Guild Mee1ng / Elec1ons Thank you to the Parents’ Guild for their con:nuing support of the various programs the children par:cipate in at the school. This month’s Parents’ Guild mee:ng will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 7:00 P.M. An elec:on will take place to select execu:ve commi9ee posi:ons, as well as, coordinators for the new school year. See a9ached nomina:on form. A baby si‘ng service is available for parents who wish to a9end the mee:ng and will be bringing their children. Immuniza1on Clinic at IHMS On Friday aaernoon, May 20, IHMS will host an immuniza:on clinic. This clinic is for Grade 6 female students, that have received parental consent to be immunized. IHMS Devo1on to Mary During the month of May the school will be praying devo:onal prayers for Mary. On Friday, May 27, at 9:00 A.M. a special prayer celebra:on and procession will take place where the whole school will walk and pray together as a community. If you’re able to join us, you’re more than welcome. Students are encouraged to bring a rosary on this day. Grades 5 & 7 Health Educa1on As part of the grade 5 and grade 7 Health Educa:on Curriculum, the students will be learning about Body Changes and Human Reproduc:on. These units are scheduled to take place in May / June. The school’s public health nurse provides resources, and along with the school staff, provide instruc:on to the students using a curriculum developed by Manitoba Catholic Schools. The curriculum is approved by the three Archbishops in Manitoba. More informa:on will be sent home to grades 5 and 7 parents. Oratorical Contest The grades 6 - 8 students will par:cipate in a public speaking contest during the month of May. Three representa:ves from each of these classes will present their speeches at 9:00 A.M., May 18 in the school gym. Public speaking ... it’s a great life skill! N.U.T. Days ... No Uniforms Today! May 19 - Vyshyvanka Day … Embroidered Shirt Day! Vyshyvanka is the colloquial name for a Ukrainian embroidered shirt. It is much more than merely an item of clothing. It is a symbol that has been protected and passed on from genera:on to genera:on. May 26 - Summer Wear Day! It’s ‘summer wear day’ perfect for going to the Annual School Picnic!! Ragged jeans, cut-offs and midriff tops are not permi9ed. Grades 1 & 2 Bicycle Safety The Grades 1 & 2 students will be par:cipa:ng in Bicycle Safety Course on Wednesday, June 8. They will learn about road safety, as well as, :ps on proper maintenance of their bike. Students are encouraged to bring their bike on this day. If they are unable to bring a bike … no problem! … they will s:ll learn ‘the rules of the road’!
