Gospel Acclamation

Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made; For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Draw Near

1. Draw near and take the Body of the Lord, and drink with faith the Blood for you outpoured. Saved by Christ’s Body and his holy Blood, with souls refreshed we give our thanks to God.

2. Christ, our Redeemer, God’s eternal Son, has by his cross and blood the vic’try won. He spent his life for greatest and for least. Praise Christ, the Paschal Victim, Christ the priest.

3. Let us approach with faithful hearts sincere and claim the promise of salvation here. Christ rules our hearts and all his saints defends; He gives believers life that never ends.

4. With heav’nly bread Christ makes the hungry whole; his living water fills the thirsting sol. Alpha-Omega, unto whom shall bow All nations of the earth, be with us now.

Reading the Face of God III — Discernment

Last week I mentioned the “big” decisions we make in life, but I did not mention one of the biggest discernments we ought to be about as Catholics, namely Priesthood or Religious life. I fear that for most young men even the mention of priesthood strikes fear into their hearts. Sadly it also strikes terror into the hearts of their parents, who nearly always oppose a religious vocation when a youngster talks about it. In big families with lots of kids, giving one to God is not unthinkable. However with only two kids, and an intense desire for “grandkids” Mom and Dad are often the biggest obstacle to junior even considering such a calling. Of course that is why we are in the mess we are today, and when I hear someone complain “I can’t understand that foreign priest,” my ques-tion is always “where is the vocation from your family?” Or if your daughter comes home and announces she wants to try a reli-gious vocation, the immediate response is too often “but you will not be happy.” Actually we know statistically that Sisters and Priests are amongst the most happy and fulfilled people in our society, but that is easily dismissed by parents who find such a thing repellant. Still as far as discernment goes, religious vocations are ground zero. In fact discernment for vocation caused the person who really thought through the whole idea of discernment, St. Ignatius Loyola, to think through the “how’s” of discernment. He lived in the 16th century and was founder of the Society of Jesus [Jesuits]. His reflection on the scripture and what came to be called the Ignatian Exercises were designed to foster discernment, and much of what follows is based on Ignatius’ work. IHM Pray for us. Father Jerry

Stewardship Corner

Stewardship involves more than the gift we bring to the altar. Today’s readings say clearly that it is fidelity to God’s law that

makes our offering aceptable.

nuestra ofrenda.

“Share-A-Mass Ministry still needs drivers who live in the vicinity of Lone Tree and Hillcrest in Antioch who are willing to bring a parish-ioner to mass on the weekend. One person, in particular, lives in the hill area above Lowe’s . Please call Richard Nahm at 925-240-9885 or email him [email protected].”

TURN PALMS INTO ASHES

Please bring the palms you received last year to The Parish Office before February 28th, so they

Respect Human Life. “God’s love does not distinguish between the infant in the mother’s womb or the child or the youth or the adult or the older person. In each one God sees His image and likeness. Human life is a manifestation o God and His glory.” Pope Benedict XVI

In observance of President’s Day, our Parish Office will be CLOSED Monday, February 17th.
