Collaboration• Somus

– VTT, TKK, University of Tampere• EPACE

– “Exchanging good practices for the promotion of an active citizenship in the EU”, project by Ministry of Justice

– Piloting good practices in activation of especially students and immigrants, utilization of social media

• Moniheli – Project that aims to establish a functional network for

immigrant organisations and associations dealing with multicultural issues

Pilot

• Social media pilot for the use of immigrant associations in the Helsinki metropolitan area

• Developing and testing a participation model and supporting online tools– Combination of existing online tools and

development of some new components

Method

• Community-driven participatory design– Users as designers and decision-makers, when

developing services for them– Researchers facilitate the process & give resources– Core team:

• Immigrants • Researchers (EPACE, Somus)• Moniheli representatives

– Some phases of the process are open for everyone– Ways of participation: meetings, online tools

Solutions forum vision

• Solutions forum is a – positive meeting place – for both immigrants and natives – for knowledge sharing and problem solving– combining physical and online spaces

• Place for finding solutions both for ad hoc and long term issues– Networking people who share the same interest (e.g. in

integrating immigrants into society) and empower them to act on the issues they find important

Events calendar vision

• Digital event calendar:– supports interaction and dialogue between

natives and immigrants & NGOs and citizens – encourages and enables everyone to participate

in various events – enabling event experience to be continued and

shared in the digital channels

Project implementation

• Project team: Somus, Epace, Moniheli + representatives from immigrant organizations

• Workshops & Owela with other stakeholders• Participatory project budgeting for some

project work• Moniheli as permanent ”owner” of service, if

pilot is successful?

Development process

• Iterative development, 4 week cycles• 1st version should be in pilot phase by end of

Feb/2010• Piloting and incremental development based

on user feedback (starting March 2010)• To be discussed
