IMMIGRATION IN AUGUST, 1916.

The number of immigrant aliens admitted into the United States during the first nine months of 191G has been in excess of the number admitted during the corresponding months of 1915. There has also been an increase from month to month during the first five months of 1916. Compared with the preceding month, June shows a de- crease of 0.8 per cent, July of 18.6 per cent, August an increase of 19.7 per cent over July, and September of 21.4 per cent over August. These facts are brought out in the statement following.
