The Caribbean Baptist Fellowship (CBF) parent

body of the Caribbean Baptist Youth Fellowship

(CBYF), established the youth festival for the

purpose of unifying Caribbean Youth Fellowship

and Development.

The CBYF aims to:

1. to present the gospel of Jesus Christ as the

only tool which can hook an un-churched

youth to experience the greatest love of all.

2. to inform and educate youth and youth

leaders on critical issues affecting Caribbean

young people via seminars and work-shops.

3. to engage a diverse Caribbean cultural

talent expo through the outlet of music and

entertainment.

4. to extend the CBF beyond the fellowship to

engage in street missions, orphanages, youth

correctional recovery facilities and shelters.

What is the CBF

Youth Festival?

Like the Festivals of the past, there will be

many activities which will unite us as a Caribbean

body, strengthen us spiritually and endow us for

effective service.

This year’s Festival will convene under the theme

“Youth on F.I.R.E –Fully Ignited, Radically

Engaged” in the host country Dominica.

Family groups will facilitate cross-cultural

exchanges as we meet to pray and fellowship

together daily. We will be spiritually fed in our

Bible Study hour and dynamic presenters will

facilitate the exploration of various aspects of

the Christian journey including evangelism,

relationships and ministry.

Special features at this conference include an

island wide mission opportunity with Samaritans

Feet and a Road March.

Talents from across the Caribbean will be on

display as groups from the various islands will use

the arts in worship.

Come and be a part of the Caribbean

Youth on FIRE!

The UGC is the committee which oversees the activities of

the uniform groups within the Jamaica Baptist Union. It

seeks to be a direct link between uniform groups and their

respective organizations We also seek to implement

programmes for Baptist Uniform Groups that will encourage

Christian values among members and pass on to them life

skills as well as leadership and personal development skills.

What is the Uniformed Groups Committee (UGC)? Why Have A Uniform Group At My Church?

A lot of our youth in Jamaica are finding themselves in the wrong

activities and the uniform groups provides an avenue through

which they can socialize and interact in a programme in which

they will learn Christian principles and discipline.

What types of Groups Are there?

The main type of Uniform Group that is in our Baptist Churches is

the Brigaders.

This is due to the fact that these uniform groups seek to instill

discipline while emphasizing Christian principles.

There are also Scouts, Girl Guides and Red Cross in our Baptist

Churches in which leaders use innovative ways to bring across

the emphasis of true Christian living.

If you need more information or

assistance in forming

a Uniform Group

at your church

NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE & RALLY 2013

inclement weather in the earlier part of the

morning led to the cancelation of our march

that was scheduled to take place through the

town of Ocho Rios. We thus started with the

worship under the sub theme, “Living out the

Name: Peace Bearers”. The message was

delivered by Rev. Sheldon Ashman who charged us that we have

the assurance and authority of Christ to live actively as peace

bearers. The sermon was followed by the installation of the JBUYD

New Executive Committee.

The competition got off to a start

with the performing arts in the form of

chorale speaking junior, chorale singing

senior and dance. The regular featured

activity, bible quiz was done in

between. As is customary Zone 2

captured the first places in the three

categories of the performing arts but

was outwit by zone 3 in the Bible Quiz,

a coveted title they held for many

years. It was also a wind of change to

see zone 1 being placed 2nd in the

dance after many years of being inactive.

The newly added dimension to rally was sports in particularly

football and a few track and field events. This certainly garnered

the support of more male presence and the younger age groups.

During the presentation ceremony, the JBUYD felt it was fitting to

honour one of our stalwarts, Arlene Henry. It took her by surprise.

She is an efficient, proactive and meticulous servant who has given

eleven excellent years of service to the YD. This brought down the

curtains of rally 2013.

Praise be to God for guiding us through another term and we

look forward to all God will do through the youth of the Jamaica

Baptist Union in the years to come.

The 29th National Youth Conference was

held at Nutshell Conference Centre in

Duncans, Trelawny from November 21-22,

2013. This year saw us back to the

Nutshell conference centre for our opening

celebrations under the theme, “Blessed and

Branded: We’re Children of God”. The preacher was Rev

Michael Campbell, pastor of the Grateful Hill Circuit of Baptist

churches in St. Ann. It was a timely message for youth who

were encouraged to represent Christ wherever they are and

wherever they go. The worship experience included dub

poetry by Raphael Walker and the ministry of the Joe Hut

Youth Group, with song, “Will you be Ready”.

On Friday we started the morning with duo devotion which

allowed for a time of sharing, reflecting and praying. After a

brief orientation by our chairman Derri-Ann Palmer we were

led into part 1 of the business session of the conference. The

chairman made an interesting presentation highlighting the

achievements, challenges and reasons to praise God as there

were more positive activities than negative events.

The conferees partook in the

general session centred on

the topic Youth Ministry

presented by Professor, Dr.

Michael Taylor. The session

was very interactive and left

conferees fired up to go and

restart junior fellowships,

youth fellowships or even

individuals getting involved

again in youth ministry.

There were also gender

sessions with the female session conducted by Mrs Monica

Tucker and Mrs Marlene Davidson, while the males were

addressed by Mr Al Bailey.

Part 2 of the business meeting saw us ending the two

year term of the executive body and a new one being elected

for two years 2013-2015 which will be led by Donna-Lee

Minott chair- elect. In this session we discussed, with much

anticipation, the way forward for the Youth Department.

The sound of rain greeted us as we Saturday morning as we

got ready and board the bus to Ocho Rios for Rally. The I
