Introducing…

• Food

• Fresh water

• Income

Most problems distribution related:

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

Like chilling soft fruit, most distributions should be even!

•Nuclear technology

•National budget

•Refugees (in Europe)

• No “hot spots”

• No color differences (banana’s)

• Equal ripeness

• Equal expected shelf life

• Lowest energy consumption

Why even air distribution?

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

• Stack pallets thight to each other

• Tarp or air bag should fit and close well

• All boxes equal in size and well filled

Drawing Pre-chilling:

avoid leakages!

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

• Stack pallets at even spacing (5-10 cm)

• Avoid blockage of main air

• Avoid touching the wall

General Pre-chilling:

equally spaced!

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

General storage:

Keep your distance!

Equipment selection & Room design

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

• Sufficient air throw from air cooler

• Avoid air blockage

Equipment selection & Room design

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

Avoid preference air throw to left/right by:

guide vanes or L + R rotating fans

Equipment selection & Room design

3 fans

2 fans

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

• Poor design: fan unit serves part of air cooler

• Defrost air cooler: check regularly!

• Avoid spluttering (fan speed, defrost sequence)

Equipment design and operation:

air maldistribution

Air Distribution - ISFC 2017

• General guidelines to avoid maldistribution have been given

• Great need to show air flow examples

• Great need to facilitate prediction air flow by:Readily available tools (www.koudecentraal.nl)

Friction data of air flow in cold rooms
