Subbiah (Chennai) and Sushri Nidhi Tripathi (Delhi) have been elected unopposed as National Presudcnt and National General Secretary respectively of nation‘s leading student organization Akhil maatlya Vidyanhi Pnrishad for the year 20l9-20. This announcement was made today from the Central Office of ABVP at Mumbai. According to the statement issued by the Election Officer Dr D. K. Shah: from the Central Office of ABVP, the tenure of both the posts will be of one year, and both the office bearers will assume Dr. S. Subbiah reelected as National President and Sushri Nidhi Tripathi elected as National General Secretary of ABVP their responsibility during the 65"I National Conference of ABVP scheduled to be held in Agra (Braj) from 22 nd to 25 th November 20I9. Prof. Dr. S. Subbiah hails from the Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu. He has been an activist of ABVP since his student days. A reputed cancer specialist in medical field, he has done MBBS. MS and M.Ch. (Surgical Oncology). At present, he is a Professor and Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Chennai’s Kilpauk Medical College. So far, he has performed more than 3000 surgeries, published more than 65 research papers in national and international medical journals and guided more than 50 students for super- specialty in Surgical Oncology. He is an honorary member of various national institutions for cancer studies and research. Right since student days he is inclined to serving Sociaty through medical practice. He takes keen Interest In development of education In Tamil Nadu and Tamil history. Cultural Nationalism is his subject of special interest. Since I986, he has held various responsibilities in ABVP such as Tamil Nadu State President and National Vice President. He has been reelected as the National President of ABVP for this session (2019-20). He resides in Chennai. Sushri Nidhi Tripathi hails from Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. She has done BA from Allahabad University and MA. MPhil from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She conttnues to pursue PhD from JNU. She has been actively associated with ABVP since 2013. After holding various responsibilities in JNU unit, she represented ABVP as the Presidential Candidate for JNUSU in the year 20l7. She actively participated in the students’ protest against the anti-national sloganeering that took place in JNU In 20l6, and played an important role in taking the Mission Sahasi campaign undertaken by ABVP on national level. She represented India in India’s youth delegation to Sri Lanka organized by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. Government of India. Biren Singh said that the present State Government has full trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah that they would keep their positive Joint Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders’ Day Held State government trust the positive response and commitment of centre: CM commitments on the Indo- Naga Peace talks. This was stated by him at the press briefing in connection with Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders’ Day held at the Durbar Hall of Chief Minister’s Secretariat today. Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister maintained that they have gathered a rough report collected from various levels consisting of opinions and wishes of people and CSOs of the State. The same has been shared to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah this morning, he added. Chief Minister also stated that the State Government would invite the representatives of Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and other stakeholders for thorough discussion before consultations with the Centre on the issue. Regarding the demand for convening a special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly, he said that the State government is not unwilling to convene a special Assembly session. Within the short tenure of the present Government, Assembly resolution on protecting State’s territorial integrity had been taken twice and similar resolutions on the same issue had been taken twelve times by earlier governments, he added. Mentioning that the State government firmly trust the positive response and commitment made by the Central Government on the issue, Chief Minister stated that the government will convene the Assembly session when the situation arises. Chief Minister urged the people and different civil society organisations of the State to have trust in the present government. He informed that the Union Home Minister also earlier assured them that all stakeholders would be consulted before finalising the peace talks with the Nagas. Replying to the query about disclosing the contents of the Indo-Naga peace talks, Chief Minister maintained that we had asked about the contents of the peace talks, however the Central leaders reiterated that the Indo-Naga deal wouldn’t affect the Administrative structure of Manipur and won’t led the formation of districts based on ethnic lines etc. Responding on the recent ban on financial transactions of the State government, Chief Minister said that the ban was just a precautionary measure to overcome the excessive overdraft of the government account so that the Reserve Bank of India would not impose ban on financial transactions of the State. He maintained that the Centre’s share of around Rs. 161 crores was credited to the State government’s account yesterday which was due to be credited on the first week of every month. He assured that the ban would be lifted soon. The Chief Minister heard around 300 complaints and met around 1000 people from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm. Many differently-abled persons, widows and people belonging to poor families were instantly enrolled under Government’s noble schemes like Chief Minister- gi Hakshel-gi Tengbang (CMHT) and Chief Minister- gi Sotharabashing-gi Tengbang (CMST) etc. Many educated and skilled youths were also identified to provide soft loans from different banks. Officials of Health Department and JNIMS were there to attend to the people, who seek medical assistance, reimbursement and health care in Government medical hospitals. Other Departments including Minority, Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Castes, Social Welfare, Education (S), Manipur State Co-operative Bank Ltd. and Manipur Police were also present to help resolve people’s grievances. Around 1500 tree saplings were also distributed by the Forest Department to the people who turned up to highlight their grievances on joint Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders’ Day. The saplings included Champaka (Leihao), Jackfruit (Theibong), Indian Olive (Chorphon), Yellow Myrobalan (Manahi), Arjuna (Mayokpha), Indian Gooseberry (Heikru) and Tree Bean (Yongchak). Thoubal Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Hasina Begum, Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner Smt. N. Bandana and ADC, Thoubal L. Radhakanta and Addl. SP, Thoubal Deshorjit graced the observance as the Chief Guest, the Functional President and the Guests of Honour respectively. Children’s Day and Foundation Day of NYK Observed at Thoubal While addressing the gathering Smt. N. Bandana told that the district administration is trying to submit the data for child sex ratio in Thoubal district to Women and Child Development Ministry quarterly. Under Beta-Beti/ Abungo-Abemma Board, with ASHA, Anganwadi workers and others are taking the record of how many boys and girls were delivered in their respective areas in a month and by compiling reports of three-four months, district administration will send it to Secretary Women and Child Development Ministry. Because, in comparison with 2001 census, the child sex ratio in Thoubal district declined in 2011 census and even in the tentative data of 2011 to 2021 shows declination in the same, informed by the Secretary. The Ministry’s information is based on institutional delivery. She also appealed to all concerned to work hand in hand and try to show that there’s improved in child sex ratio in the district. Gender and Crime Against Women and Children IT News Imphal, Nov 15 A one Day Awareness Program on Gender and Crime Against Women and Children in Manipur was held at Moirang Multipupose Higher Secondary School, Bishenpur District, organised by Women Action for Development. Altogether 150 participants class IX and X standard and10 teaching and non teaching staffs attended o the said program. Agency Guwahati, Nov 15 While the Centre is looking for ways to wrap up the decades-old Naga Peace Talks, Manipuri student groups have expressed their apprehensions in regard to the negotiations demanding that the territorial integrity of Manipur should not be affected. The Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Students Union(NMBSU) and Bishnupriya Manipuri Ganadsangram Parishad(BMGP) on November 14 th , 2019 submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Cachar Deputy Commissioner demanding ‘not to include any part of Manipur state in the boundary of proposed Nagalim through peace talks’. The student bodies in the memorandum mentioned that ‘Manipur has never been a part of Nagaland or other adjacent state’ and that ‘inclusion of any part of Manipur for creation of Naga Peace Talks Should Not Compromise Territorial Integrity of Manipur: Bishnupriya body proposed Nagalim is quite an injustice to the Manipuri(both Bishnupriya & Meithei) belonging to the state or other parts of the country’. It may be mentioned that the Naga peace talks are going on with the Centre where the later has finally decided to accept the demands of the Isak- Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, NSCN-IM but with certain conditions. However, there has been no official announcement on the end or final settlement in this regard. The NSCN-IM has been demanding a greater Nagalim and a separate flag which consists of the Naga- inhabited areas of the neighboring states of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh. The Centre had earlier set October 31st, 2019 deadline for the signing of the peace agreement but there has been no official announcement on the end or final settlement on this regard.
