Important Announcements: Calling all Veterans! On Monday, Nov. 10 th , we would like any military veterans to visit our class and tell us about serving our country. Please contact me if you know someone who can come in! Parent-Teacher Conferences Please use the Sign-Up Genius posted on our class web page to select a date/time for our Parent Teacher Conference, the week of November 17 th . I look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you! Room 7 Family Thanksgiving Feast Please join us for a special Thanksgiving/Fall Luncheon on Thursday, November 20 th at 12:15 PM. Please use the Sign-Up Genius posted on our class web page to RSVP, also indicating the number of family members planning to attend in the COMMENT BOX (do not include your fourth grader in the count). Siblings are welcome! Parent Volunteers Check out the sign-up sheet on our website if you are interested in volunteering in our class! Math: Unit 2, Multiplication and Division We will review divisibility rules. Students will begin multiplying 2 digit x 2 digit factors. We will begin using the Box Strategy, move into using Partial Products, and also practice using the U.S. Standard Algorithm. We will continue to work with multi- step problem solving that requires more than one operation. A Mid-Unit Assessment and an Assessment on Problem Solving Using Multiple Steps will be given next week. Please continue to review basic multiplication facts (0-12) at home. We will be using TenMarks and Dreambox to reinforce skills. Please remember to have your child complete 30 minutes of Dreambox at home each week! Language Arts: Reading Information: We will finish studying, “Ecosystems.” Students will continue working on identifying the maid idea and details from expository text. A Unit Assessment will be given this week. Time for Kids Magazine. Please take some time during the week to allow your student to summarize the cover story. Ask text dependent questions that will require him/her to re-read the article to locate the information needed. Homework will accompany the magazine and will be due on Thursday. Students will take a quiz on Thursday using their magazine to access information. Reading Literature: We will continue to make inferences while working on close reading skills. Reading closely encourages our students to read with a purpose and have a better understanding of complex text. Read Aloud: Read Aloud: We began reading the novel, Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’ Dell. Each of my students has a copy to read in class. Students will write passages in his/her, “Karana’s Journal,” as we read this book. Students will also be given reading comprehension quizzes with text dependent questions. The purpose is for our students to re-read sections of the text to find the evidence needed to support their answers. DiRT (Dive into Reading Time), We are wrapping up our first DiRT rotation this week! The next DiRT rotation will be after the winter break.

Ranges. Students are asked to

check out at least one book within

their range each week.
