Math: Unit 2, Multiplication
and Division
We will review divisibility
rules. Students will begin
multiplying 2 digit x 2 digit
factors. We will begin using
the Box Strategy, move into
using Partial Products, and also
practice using the U.S.
Standard Algorithm. We will
continue to work with multi-
step problem solving that
requires more than one
operation.
A Mid-Unit Assessment and an
Assessment on Problem
Solving Using Multiple Steps
will be given next week.
Please continue to review basic
multiplication facts (0-12) at
home. We will be using
TenMarks and Dreambox to
reinforce skills.
Please remember to have your
child complete 30 minutes of
Dreambox at home each week!
Language Arts:
Reading Information:
We will finish studying,
“Ecosystems.” Students will
continue working on identifying the
maid idea and details from
expository text. A Unit
Assessment will be given this week.
Time for Kids Magazine. Please
take some time during the week to
allow your student to summarize the
cover story. Ask text dependent
questions that will require him/her
to re-read the article to locate the
information needed. Homework will
accompany the magazine and will be
due on Thursday. Students will take
a quiz on Thursday using their
magazine to access information.
Reading Literature:
We will continue to make inferences
while working on close reading skills.
Reading closely encourages our
students to read with a purpose and
have a better understanding of
complex text.
Read Aloud:
Read Aloud: We began reading the
novel, Island of the Blue Dolphins by
Scott O’ Dell. Each of my students
has a copy to read in class.
Students will write passages in
his/her, “Karana’s Journal,” as we
read this book. Students will also
be given reading comprehension
quizzes with text dependent
questions. The purpose is for our
students to re-read sections of the
text to find the evidence needed to
support their answers.
DiRT (Dive into Reading Time),
We are wrapping up our first DiRT
rotation this week! The next DiRT
rotation will be after the winter
