The Stafford County Public Schools Fine and Performing Arts Festivalfeatures more than 5,000 pieces of artwork from 33 schools. More than1,000 students will perform in a variety of ensembles. There is something foreveryone to enjoy. The weekend will include elementary choirs, highschool jazz band and drum ensembles, student chamber music, anddramatic arts.

The Rotary Club of Stafford’s Meals of Hope Community Packing Event wasSaturday, February 22, 2020 at Stafford High School. The event broughttogether over 200 volunteers that packed 66,000 meals for local families inneed.

The Rotary Club of Stafford joined forces with several businesses andindividuals in the community to provide school supplies and goodies toStafford County Public Schools (SCPS) middle school teachers. The bagscontained items from the following businesses: Target- Stafford, Staples-Stafford, Stafford County Government, Virginia Tourism, Chalk N More,Publix, and Fredericksburg Guidebook. Stafford Rotarian and SCPSCommunity Engagement Manager Cherice Taylor led the project insupport and appreciation of teachers.

Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS)Director of Nutrition, Brian Williams,introduced the federally funded Child andAdult Care Feeding Program (CACFP) to theprincipal at Kate Waller Barrett ElementarySchool (KWBES). CACFP brings healthy foodto children in schools, child care centers,homes, and afterschool programs. Morethan 100 students at KWBES receive free, hot,dinner meals on Tuesday and Thursdayafternoons through participation in CACFP.

Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) received$118,481 in state grant funds to form a regionalconsortium aimed at developing, distributing, andevaluating computer science resources forgrades 3-8. SCPS Superintendent Dr. Scott Kiznerprovided remarks on this effort Saturday, February22, 2020 at the University of Mary Washington,Stafford Campus.

The partnership includes other local school divisions (King George,Westmoreland, and Richmond County Public Schools, Fredericksburg CityPublic Schools), University of Mary Washington, Code VA, Virginia Societyfor Technology in Education and Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgrenthat will develop curricular resources, performance assessments, and leadprofessional development in effective computer science instruction.

Autism and Anxiety Activity BlanketsAutism and Anxiety Activity Blankets

The Family and Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) studentsat Colonial Forge High School (CFHS) created 39 fidget blankets forstudents with autism or anxiety. The students donated the finished blanketsto the CFHS counseling department as well as Stafford and WidewaterElementary Schools.

Elementary School Multicultural NightsElementary School Multicultural Nights

Rocky Run and Anne E. MoncureElementary schools held multiculturalnights in February. The eveningshighlighted the importance of sharingculture and embracing diversity in theStafford County Public Schoolscommunity.

Interactive tables showcased a craftor food from each of the twentycountries represented by grade levelsand families attending the school.

Stafford High School inducted 34 new members into the National HonorSociety on February 4, 2020.

Social Studies ShowcaseSocial Studies Showcase

On Saturday, February 22,2020, over 30 students and 7community organizationsparticipated in StaffordCounty Public Schools firstannual Social StudiesShowcase. The event was atEdward E. Drew Jr. MiddleSchool and featured studentprojects ranging frommodels of Jamestown andthe "Beanpole andCornstalk" bridge overPotomac Creek to

documentaries on the development of the atomic bomb and the sinkingof the Lusitania. Some students showcased their National History Day

projects. The centerpiece of the showcase was a mobile exhibit createdby the National Park Service, the NAACP, and local museums, onDesegregation in the Fredericksburg region. It included a documentarycreated by Stafford County Video Production students.

Wildcat BattalionWildcat Battalion

On Saturday, February 1, 2020, the Wildcat Battalion spent the morning atQuantico National Cemetery respectfully removing the wreaths laidon/near the tombstones of military veterans in December. This is the thirdyear they participated in both the Wreaths Across America and clean-upevents.

Colonial Forge High School (CFHS)performed Blind Prophecy at theVirginia High School League (VHSL)District Competition. The CFHS DramaDepartment took first place. MarielM. and Jess B. received Best Actorawards.

Stafford High School's Step Team presented "Slam & Step" on February 8,2020. The competition incorporated step and slam poetry, allowingstudents to share stories through body and language.
