II. ACADEMIC GUIDELINES:

1. WORKLOAD:

a. The maximum workload is seven courses a semester. This includes courses taken at FIT, AGS, etc. See the sheet on workload guidelines for more details.

b. Students on probation may take no more than six courses a semester.

2. Course descriptions and their prerequisites are found on each department’s web page. Prerequisites are also listed in the course schedule.

3. Jewish Studies courses are listed by subject and arranged by level in the back of the booklet.

III. REQUIREMENTS: The comments in the Notes column indicate which requirement a given course fulfills.

IV. ENGLISH COMPOSITION REQUIREMENT All students must take English 1100 (Composition & Rhetoric) during either the Fall or Spring of their first year of attendance.

V. SPECIAL OPTIONS:

1. A Waiver of Prerequisite must be filed for courses for which you do not have the prerequisites.

2. Most students may choose one elective each semester to be graded P or N. The period to file for this option is April 6 – 8, 2021. Forms and guidelines are available from the Office of the Registrar.

3. Independent Study, Directed Study, Internship, and Audit forms must be filed by Thursday, January 28, 2021. These courses, except for audit, become part of your workload.

4. Honors courses are indicated in the Notes colum. To be eligible for these courses, a student must have a high school average of 90 or above, or Dean's List status (GPA of 3.5 or above for the year). Honors courses may not be taken on a P/N basis.

5. Permission is required to take courses at the Azrieli Graduate School or the Bernard Revel Graduate School.

VI. A given course is not necessarily offered every semester. Be careful to take a course required for your major when it is offered, keeping prerequisites in mind.

VII. No credit will be granted for a repeated course. Check course numbers carefully before registering!

VIII. Yeshiva University has adopted regulations to protect the privacy rights of students under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Regulations are available from the Office of the Registrar.

II. Major Requirements - See Fact Sheets and department websites. Only one course in the major may count toward the general education requirements, with the exception of a science major in which the first year sequence counts toward the Science and Technology category. Exceptions may also apply toward the Quantitative Skills requirement.

III. Jewish Studies All students are required to complete six (6) semesters of CORE and fourteen (14) additional Jewish Studies credits except as indicated in paragraph III C below. The courses should be chosen to meet the distribution requirements in Paragraph B below. A. CORE segment

1. CORE is a unit of three courses that total eight (8) or nine (9) credits. CORE is required during the first six (6) semesters of attendance at SCW.

2. The student determines the CORE credit value (3, 4, 5 or 6) at the time of registration. Each semester the CORE average grade is recorded for the credit value selected.

B. Distribution Requirements

Students pursuing Combined Programs in Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Podiatry who can meet all graduation requirements within 3 years (either one year in Israel and two years on campus, or three years on campus) are exempt from (2) semesters of CORE and must complete the J.S. credit distribution below. IV. Residency - Students must complete at least 84 credits and 6 full-time (12 credits) semesters on SCW’s NY campus. Transfer students consult with an academic advisor regarding the residency requirement.

60% of the major and minor must be completed at SCW in NY. Up to 12 credits of approved courses at AGS and BRGS may apply toward the SCW residency requirement.

VI. Honors at graduation are based on the GPA for courses taken in residence: Cum Laude 3.500, Magna Cum Laude, 3.700; Summa Cum Laude, 3.850.
