Information Session on Attending
Graduate School and the New M.S. in
Marketing Research and Analysis Degree
The Department of Marketing recently started accepting applications for its Master
of Science degree program with a major in Marketing Research and Analysis. The
program will be the first in the region to offer this degree. The Master of Science in
Marketing Research and Analysis (MSMRA) program is a specialized program
designed to provide students with the skills to conduct marketing research and use
marketing analytics, but most importantly, to make the connection to marketing
practice. Students can attend either part-time or full-time.
If you are interested in learning more about this program, whether graduate school
is right for you and how to go about applying for graduate school, please attend
this session presented by Dr. Gail Zank. It will be held Tuesday, February 26 from
5:00pm – 6:00pm in the Marketing Department Conference Room (McCoy Hall 427).
For more information about this program, please contact Dr. Zank, Program Director,
at 512-245-3196 or [email protected].
American Marketing Association (AMA)
AMA only had a few events before finals and winter break, but they were fun and
productive. We had our usual morning meet-up, an informative workshop on interviews, a
volunteer event with Sights and Sounds, and a holiday party.
The morning meet-up was a good way to get caffeine and talk to professionals. Members
asked questions about the different businesses out there and networked with others. and a
volunteer event with Sights and Sounds.
After Thanksgiving break, our members came back ready to help out with a major staple of
the holiday season in San Marcos: Sights and Sounds. Our members got into the spirit by
helping out at booths and dressing up as holiday mascots.
At our workshop we learned about how to present yourself during an interview. Jamie
Gaertner from Enterprise Holdings told us how she evaluates people during interviews and
how Enterprise works with its employees to develop a better working environment. She also
informed us of different job listings, naming the best one to use.
Right before finals AMA enjoyed a fun holiday party. At the party, we wished our
graduating members good luck in their endeavors in the professional world. We also
enjoyed a fun gift exchange.
Be on the lookout for flyers posted around campus with information on our events for this
month.
Upcoming Events:
Speaker meetings – 2/13 & 2/27 in LBJ 3-9.1 at 5:30pm (come early for food and
networking)
Workshops – 2/5 in LBJ 3-11.1 & 2/19 in LBJ 3-6.1 at 5pm
Regional Conference – February 8th - be on the lookout for more information on our

Brandon Blood, a 2015 graduate from the McCoy College of
Business with a BBA in Marketing, was awarded Salesperson of
the Year from Safety Vision for his performance on the Pupil
Transit Team. The award is earned by total sales, amount of new
business acquired, and total sales activity.
While at Texas State University, Brandon was involved in Enactus
(formerly SIFE) under the direction of Vicki West and was a
Professional Selling Student Ambassador. He was also influenced
by Professor Wayne Noll and Vivek Shah by taking courses
abroad through the Study Abroad program in Barcelona.
After two years in the Safety Vision corporate office out of
Houston, Brandon agreed to move to New York City to have a
local presence in the Northeast Market - that same year was
when the award was won.
Bruce Smith, CEO of Safety Vision, is also a graduate of the McCoy College of Business. He is
not only involved with the University but also recruits Professional Sales students for his
company.
TXST Alumnus Awarded Salesperson of the Year!
The Texas State entry into the American Marketing Association (AMA)
Collegiate Case Competition was selected as one of ten finalists. The
American Marketing Association is the largest marketing association in
North America and there are over 370 student chapters. Finalists were
chosen based on a written entry. Some of the other finalists include
the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and the University of
Nevada–Las Vegas. This year the case client is the Wall Street Journal.
The case challenge was to develop a comprehensive marketing
campaign that helps the Wall Street Journal overcome misperceptions
of Generation Z regarding the WSJ and increase memberships and
relevance amongst college students across the United States.
Melissa Black and Alisha Mohammed were the two students that
completed the case. It is noteworthy that this is the smallest team from
Texas State to ever compete. Dr. Zank is the coach for this team. This
will make the 12th time out of 14 years of competing that Texas State
has made it to the finals. As finalists, the Texas State students will be
