BUDDY CLASS - 5/6 TEAL & K BLUE

5/6Teal and Kindy Blue teamed up this week to explore healthy

eating options for Crunch and Sip. We should be eating as many

foods as we can each day from all the colours of the RAINBOW!

Kindergarten students said that they liked to eat bananas, apples,

mandarins, pears, carrot sticks and cucumber pieces for their

Crunch and Sip or recess. Stage 3 students agreed that these

foods were very yummy choices and that, best of all, they all come

in their very own natural packaging. This means that these fruit and

vegetable options go a long way in helping to not litter our school or

planet with unnecessary plastics!

Another fun activity that the students shared together, was reading

the picture book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, writing monster

poems and making their own monster hand puppets. All students

are enjoying spending this valuable time together and are forming

friendships across stages that are continuing on the playground

and during school events such as the recent Games-a-thon.

Well done buddies!

Mrs Sinclair & Mrs Thompson

UNIFORMS

As it is getting colder please

remind your child to dress

warmly in school uniform and

wear their school jacket or

jumper each day.

Please ensure all clothing is

labelled with your child’s

name so

it can be returned to them if it

has been misplaced.

If you have any spare school

jumpers or uniforms please

donate these to the school

office as it would be greatly

appreciated.

GAMES-A-THON

The aim of the Games-a-thon was to provide both an opportunity

for fun and fitness whilst also raising money to purchase brand new

iPads for our school.

These iPads will assist with enhancing our student’s everyday

learning as well as providing new stimulating activities.

Now it's time for all of our students to start collecting the

sponsorship money and return it to school by Friday 22nd June.

There will be movie tickets awarded to the students in each stage

who collect the most money. Prizes will also be given to the classes

who raise the most funds for our school.

Thank you in advance to everyone for collecting and returning all

sponsorship money promptly.

Mr McMasters and Mrs MacLaren

SWIM SCHEME 2018

The Swimming Scheme program began on Monday 4th June for 47

students from Year 2 to Year 6. The lessons are provided by swim

school instructors at the Aquatic Safety Training Academy/Royal

Life Saving Society swimming pools in Seven Hills.

It was a bit of a chilly start to the week for the student, definitely not

swimming weather, however the pools are indoor and heated so it’s

not too bad…. until it’s time to get out!

All of the students were initially assessed by the swim school

instructors and then placed into groups of between 4 to 6 students.

Students will continue to learn new skills and improve their strokes

over a total of 9 lessons.

Thank you to all of the children who are attending the Swimming

Scheme program. They have all displayed lovely manners to your

swim instructors (and our bus driver) and have met our school

expectations. We hope you continue to not only learn something

new, but have fun whilst doing it!

The final lesson is Friday 15th June.

Miss Stanaway, Mrs Davis and Mrs Cook

GYMNASTICS

As part of our Personal Development Health and Physical

Education program this term, gymnastics sessions will be run in our

school hall by qualified coaches from Sydney Academy of

Gymnastics. The students will participate in various activities using

gymnastics apparatus such as a beam, bar, mats and mini tramp.

The aim is to develop their fundamental movement skills, such as

balancing, leaping and rolling, along with an introduction to

gymnastics skills. Students will also benefit from various stretching

activities, as well as continuing to develop their ability to follow

instructions and share equipment.

Students in years 3-6 will be participating in 30 minute

sessions on Thursdays stating nest week until the end of term.

Funding has been received through a grant application. The grant

from the Australian Sports Commission will cover the full cost of the

program.

Students should be encouraged to wear their sport uniform for

these classes.

LEARNING SNAPSHOT

Focus on ICT

Students have been learning a range of

new skills and information while using

technology.

The capability to use information and

communication technologies

encompasses the knowledge, skills and behaviours to assist

students to live and work successfully in the 21st century. The use

of ICT is included across all areas of the curriculum, allowing the

students the opportunity to become competent, discriminating and

creative users of ICT when investigating, creating and

communicating ideas and information.

Kindergarten Kindergarten have enjoyed learning to log-on

to the computer and are developing their skills

when navigating the keyboard to type. They

are becoming more independent when using

the mouse to navigate to and open programs

as well as manipulating the paintbrush and

stamp tools when using Tux Paint and other

drawing programs.

Stage 1 Stage One has been learning to use Word.

They have been learning to open, type a

heading and enlarge and centre the font, as

well as inserting a picture. Next, they will be

learning about saving a document.

Stage 2 For the past couple of weeks, Stage 2 have

been looking at Google Maps. The children

have explored different areas in Australia and

have compared Google Maps to the 'old

fashioned' atlases. They have also aimed to

improve their typing skills by writing

wonderful reports on Australia's history.

Stage 3 are engaging with technology to

improve their ability to locate, summarise and

present information. Information is easily

available through the internet, so the challenge

ENROL NOW FOR KINDER 2019

We are now taking enrolments for Kinder 2018. Children enrolling in

Kindergarten 2018 MUST turn 5 before 31 July, 2019. Please visit

the office to obtain enrolment forms. The forms should be returned

as soon as possible so that we can notify prospective parents in

September with information about parent information night and

student orientation sessions to take place early next term ie

October / early November. If you know of any families with children

Who will be starting Kindergarten next year, please let that them

know enrolments are now being taken.

MID YEAR REPORTS 2018

Teachers are in the process of completing mid-year reports. All

students will receive their reports on Friday, 29th June. The reports

comprehensively cover student progress for Semester 1. As parent-

teacher interviews were held in Term 1, they will not be held at this

time. The front cover of the report explains the levels of

assessment. Please note: if your child is working at the expected

level for their grade, then he/she is working at a SOUND level.

Your child has been assessed against a number of indicators on

which the stage has been working this semester. The end of year

report will be reported against another set of indicators. Included in

the report will also be your child’s self-assessment of their progress

this term. The staff has spent many hours in preparing the reports

on the students and they have been checked many times for errors.

However, as we are all human, it is possible that a report slips

through the many eyes that check it and it goes home with an error

in it. If you do find an error and would like a corrected copy of the

report, please let your child’s teacher know so that an amended

copy can be produced for you. If you wish to discuss the report,

please see your child’s teacher.

PSSA SOCCER

Lynwood Park played against Blacktown North in PSSA Soccer this

week with both junior and senior teams recording wins. Juniors won

7-4 and Senior 3-2. As I was refereeing the senior game this week

and I am pleased to report that both sides played in great spirit and

it was a tight game with the winning goal coming with just 1 minute

left. Seniors will be practicing throw ins this week and all players will

be learning more about the positions on the field.

A special mention to Seth in 5/6A for running himself into the

ground and Eva 5/6S for a great defensive effort.

Mr Taylor

PSSA NETBALL

Last week, both the Junior and Senior netball teams played

against Vardy's Road Public School in what were two very tough

matches. Unfortunately, we didn't get the results we wanted but

both teams displayed terrific sportsmanship and are looking forward

to playing again this wee

Kids spend most of the day in classrooms learning concepts and practising skills. But if you wander past the

school at lunchtime, you’ll see them gallivanting through the playground kicking a ball or setting up a “shop” in

the sandpit.

Kids inherently want to roam and explore using their imagination, and we are keen to strengthen this practice

at OSHC.

We make it a priority to “lighten up” as much possible, giving the kids a chance to tell us what activities they’d

like to see in OSHC for the next week or month, rather than our team always setting the schedule. We think

this approach not only enables kids to think freely and imaginatively but it also sparks their curiosity to learn

more.

Some of the other ways we encourage imagination in OSHC include:

• Avoiding screens and encouraging interaction between the kids • Going outside to the playground to let the kids lead games • Building spaces, like imaginary forts or cafes using the equipment in the OSHC space • Offering a box of LEGO, without any building instructions so the kids can create whatever they

fancy

• Putting out art and craft activities and supervise as the kids create whatever they like!

If you would like to see some of the activities that kids participate in at OSHC, please call into the OSHC space

after school and speak to your Program Coordinator.

We’re here to make Outside School Hours Care the best experience possible for your child.

To find out more about our program, view fees and to register visit www.campaustralia.com.au

We look forward to seeing you and your family soon.

From the Team at Camp Australia.
