GALA DAY Gala Day has been long anticipated by all the students, and all classes have been advertising and spruiking their games, food, or items to sell over the past week or two. Everyone came ready to have lots of fun…. and that is exactly what they did!!! The hot dog and ice cup stands were running hot at lunch time, with lots of people then heading across to finish of their lunch with a cup cake or slice. Each class did an amazing job with their chosen activites. Pick-a-frog, grassy heads, sock wrestling, henna tattoos, pillow fights and the tunnel of terror were just some of the favourites. A big thank you to all the teachers, students and other staff members who helped organise, run and clean up on the day. Also a very big thank you goes out to the parents and carers who supported the school on this fundraising day by sending their children with money to spend and great attitudes! We raised just under $1700 for our school - what a great effort! WEEKLY SCHOOL RULE The focus this week is the blue rule “keep hands, feet, mouth and objects to myself”

We ask that you reinforce this week’s rule at home with your child.

NEWS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MR TREVOR MULLIGAN

HEALTHY KIDS BUS STOP A flyer has been inserted into today’s newsletter from the Royal Far West and Mid North Coast Local Health District. It is advertising a free child health check for children between three and five years of age. If you, a friend or a relative have a child in this age range and would like to take this opportunity to have them checked thoroughly please contact the Royal Far West phone number on the flyer. Tomorrow is the last day to make an appointment and I do apologise for the late notice but I only received this information yesterday afternoon.

GALA DAY Last Friday, 28th October, the school had its annual Gala Day with classes providing stalls of food such as hot dogs and cakes, various fun activities, some entertainment and raffles. The students and staff had a great time throughout Friday afternoon with all the activities, food and drinks available. Thanks to all the parents who assisted with the cakes, to the students who helped run some of the stalls and to the staff who managed their stalls and motivated their classes into action. The funds raised will be put to good use helping the school purchase additional items.

SWIMMING SCHEME The school has been booked into the swimming program run by the NSW Department of Education which commences on Monday, 28th November. Our school has 45 places booked but we have so far only received 25 confirmations. This is only one third of the targeted group of students across Years Two, Three and Four. These swimming schemes are tremendous in teaching water safety, water survival and confidence around and in water to your child. It is a “life saving” skill – literally. The costs for the bus travel are being generously subsidised by our school’s P&C. Please consider this again if you haven ‘t had time to fill in the permission note. It is very important for both your child and you.

LIVE LIFE WELL With the weather becoming warmer cool drinks are more sought after. Here are some healthy alternatives to sugared soft drinks, mineral water drinks and flavoured milk. Try some for your child.

SCHOOL PHOTOS School photos were taken last Wednesday 26th October. All class, individual and sibling photos were completed on the day. Due to unforseen circumstances we were unable to have some of the other group photos taken. The Whole School photo, Captains and Prefects, Year 6 photo as well as the Staff photo have been rescheduled for Wednesday 16th November. We will let you know when these are available to order.

SCHOOL BANKING COMPETITION WINNERS We were very excited to have Laura from the Commonwealth Bank Student Banking team come and deliver some wonderful news to two of our regular bankers. Every student banker who banked at least 3 times went into the Term 3 Prize Lights competition. If they also competed an online activity they went into a draw to win a Playstation 4. Congratulations to Asher Heward who won a magazine pack and a big congratulations to Brady Penn who won one of the fantastic Supernova Prizes, being a Playstation 4! If you would like to start banking come and collect an information pack from the school office. Remember to hand in your school banking deposit books to your teacher on Tuesday mornings.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION It was great to see some eager faces happily enjoying their first experience of “big school”. Next year’s kindergarten students and their parents/carers came to the first of three orientation days yesterday. The soon-to-be students had a great time in K/1G’s room with Mrs Wickham finding out all about kindergarten, doing some craft and getting to know each other. At the same time their parents or carers were invited to an information session in the library. We hope to see them all back again next week and the week after for another two great mornings.

WHAT’S DUE Swimming Scheme permission note and deposit by Wednesday 2nd November.

Final payment due Friday 18th November

GALA DAY RAFFLE There were 4 fantastic prizes to be won in Mr Mulligan’s Gala Day Raffle. A boogie board, a beach cricket set and two signed South Sydney Rabbitohs footballs. The lucky winners were Byron Burns, Harley Farrell, Lucy Rodgers and Finn Hartley.

NEWS FROM OUR COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER JENNY LUXON

SPOTLIGHT ON KAHLIA FLETCHER Miss Fletcher is currently the Prac student on class 1/2H. Here’s a little bit about her!! STAR SIGN Sagittarius FAVOURITE NUMBER 4 FAVOURITE BOOK Uno’s Garden by Graeme Base FAVOURITE HOLIDAY Somewhere with lots of trees and birdsong If I had one wish I would wish for a fun and interesting education for all children. This is my second practical experience. I have also had some teaching practice at Nambucca and Bellingen. I like to teach all subjects through creative activities such as art or making things. What I like best about being a teacher is hearing all the great ideas that students come up with.

THE TIME TRAVELLER Here are the last two chapters of Eva-Ann Cannings great story – The Time Traveller

Chapter Three The time traveller went down to the villagers. He told them a big storm was coming. They didn’t believe him. “Look!” he shouted, pointing to the sky. The villagers all ran for cover. “That won’t work! said the time traveller, “because your houses are all made of straw and sticks.” He took them up to his tower but one of the villagers shouted, “It’s a trap!” The time traveller said, “I’m not going to hurt you. I just want to share some cookies with you and keep you safe. If you go back out there you will get hurt.” As the villagers were standing at the tower, they heard terrible thunder. The time traveller said, “Go upstairs and we will all be safe.” They decided to trust the time traveller and they all ran into his tower and watched the big storm go by while they ate cookies.

Chapter Four They all became friends and the time traveller got to have a home with everybody. They fixed things in the village and the time traveller was happy. Eventually he had a pretty, hardworking wife and two loving children.
