NEWS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MR TREVOR MULLIGAN

PRESENTATION DAY I hope to see many of you at tomorrow afternoon’s annual Presentation Day which will begin at 1:00 pm and conclude before 3:00 pm. This event is the culmination of a year’s hard work and effort on the part of the students and recognises their progress and achievements across academic, cultural, community and sporting areas. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in celebrating the students’ achievements throughout 2016.

P&C CANTEEN 2017 Next year the P&C’s canteen will be operating on different times to this year, 2016. The school times will be as follows: 9:20 am – 11:00 am: classroom session (1 hour 40 minutes) 11:00 am – 11:40 am: lunchtime (40 minutes) 11:40 am – 12:45 pm: classroom session (1 hour 5 minutes) 12:45 pm – 1:00 pm: recess break (15 minutes) 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: classroom session (1 hour) 2:00 pm – 2:20 pm: recess break (20 minutes) 2:20 pm – 3:20 pm: classroom session (1 hour)

At the beginning of the year canteen orders will be taken the usual way with name, class and food items on the paper lunch bags. However, the P&C are looking to have an order and pay online service as the year progresses. The canteen will also be opening in the morning from 8:50 am to 9:15 am as well as the lunchtime break – 11:00 am to 11:40 am. It will not open for any of the other breaks during the day. Please keep checking the P&C’s Facebook for updates about the canteen during the holidays.

CANTEEN CLOSED ON THURSDAY 15TH DECEMBER Due to the fact that the majority of K-4 will be out of the school on their Movie and Picnic Day, and most of Years 5 & 6 will be enjoying their Water Fun Day, the P&C has decided to close the canteen on Thursday 15th December. If your child is not participating in either of these events please ensure you pack them food for the whole day. The canteen will be open both Wednesday 14th and Friday 16th of December.

REMINDER: TERM ONE, 2017 Just another reminder that all students from Years One to Six come to school on Monday, 30th January, 2017. Kindergarten students will be completing best start assessments throughout the first three days from Monday, 30th January to Wednesday, 1st February. All Kindergarten students will then attend school for full days from Thursday, 9th February.

YEAR 6 SAUSAGE SIZZLE AND MUFTI DAY Yesterday’s Yr 6 fundraising sausage sizzle and mufti day was a great success. Mr Patterson cooked approximately 250 sausages!!!! The delicious smell of a snag cooking on the barbie wafted all through the school. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and loved coming to school in their mufti clothes. Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported this fundraising day. Mr Patterson and Miss Wallace

YEAR 6 LEAVERS If you are finishing Year 6 this year or if you happen to be leaving our school to move to a different area, please consider donating your uniforms back to the school to put into the second hand clothing pool. There are always others that may be able to use them. Thank you.

VOLUNTEER’S THANK YOU MORNING TEA Last Thursday our wonderful volunteers feasted on lots of yummy delights that were provided by the school staff. Our school leaders Amy, Jenna and Ellie did a great job making them all feel welcome. Once again many, many thanks to all our wonderful helpers. We couldn’t do without you!!

Look forward to working with you again in 2017!!

THURSDAY ASSEMBLY - KW & K/1G’S ITEM KW & K/1G delighted the audience of many proud mum’s, dad’s, nan’s, pop’s and friends with their two wonderful Christmas songs. They sang “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Christmas Boogie”. They had all donned their Santa hats and gave the last assembly of the year a very festive spirit. The KW and K/1G Christmas performance is always a much anticipated event and it certainly didn’t disappoint this year. Well done!!

URUNGA VACATION CARE Programs for Urunga Vacation Care were included in a previous newsletter. If you would like your child to attend please contact 0408 025 093 or come and collect a program from the front office. Vacation Care Co-ordinator

HAVE-A-GO SHOW Have-A-Go Show this year will be held on the last day of school, Friday 16th December. It will start at 10am with Stage 1. Stage 2 will follow at the end of fruit break at 11.20am and Stage 3 will perform after lunch at 12.50pm. Val Hansen

BELLINGEN YOUTH ORCHESTRA Students from Yrs 3-6 who were not doing swim school had the fantastic opportunity to travel to Bellingen High School to watch a Bellingen Youth Orchestra performance. Members of the orchestra talked about the many different instruments in the orchestra. They also explained things like why there were more of some instruments than others (more violins because they are quieter and less brass because they are louder!). They played excerpts from some songs which all sounded amazing and really engaged the students. Some of these were described as “extraordinary” by one of our students. Amelia was one of the lucky people to be chosen to stand up and conduct the orchestra. We are very grateful to the Bellingen Youth Orchestra. They paid for the buses to transport our students to the high school and provided the concert for free.
