Welcom e Back !Dear Phoenix Academy Families,
It is hard to believe that the school year is half over! Report
cards were sent home before the break so contact your child?s
teacher if you did not receive yours. Parent-teacher conferences
are scheduled for March 5-8, but do not hesitate to contact your
child?s teacher if you have any questions, concerns or want
updates.
You will be receiving an invitation to our Scholarship Luncheon in
the mail. We hope you will be able to attend and support our
school. The Scholarship Luncheon is Thursday, Feb. 28th, 11:30
a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Omaha Hilton. The proceeds from this
event help make up the difference between the cost to educate
at Phoenix Academy and what we charge for tuition. We receive
no state or federal funds and besides tuition we only have the
luncheon and Omaha Gives as our fundraisers. Please contact
your employer to see if they will sponsor a table and would
receive a tax deduction. Help us get the word out about our
Scholarship Luncheon!
MAP testing is a standarized test which is given three times a year and is used in OPS as well as many districts throughout the country. The results help us compare each child?s progress to their peers at the same grade level. We use the testing to help us determine what academic areas your child needs extra help. This testing format is also great for students to experience test questions and formats that are different from their daily work. The MAP program offers comparative data from fall, winter and spring and allows for goal setting which your child is involved in projecting.
Please make every effort to avoid morning appointments during this week and have your child here on time so they will not be missing these crucial testing periods. Thank you!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Cold weather makes us all want to sleep in under warm blankets a litt le
longer in the mornings. We understand this also know that winter weather
can cause havoc with traffic. We need your cooperat ion in get t ing your
child t o school on t im e and dr iving safely for t he sake of our st udent s
and neighbors.
- School begins at 8:15 a.m. Students begin instruction in reading at 8:20
a.m. so we need to have students ready for learning. It is disruptive to
the learning of your child AND their classmates.
- PLEASE, please drive slowly in the parking lot and through the
neighborhoods for the safety of our families as well as neighbors.
- Do NOT park on 66th Street or on Glenwood before the driveway as this
is illegal. Please park in the lot or past the school driveway on
Glenwood.
- When in movement in the school parking lot, please refrain from using
your cellphone for the safety of our Phoenix Academy families.
Please send your child with warm clothing for outdoor recess. Snow pants and snow boots
are optional. Students will be required to go outside for short recesses when the "feels like"" temperature is above 10°F.
Those with medical conditions (severe asthma, broken leg, etc.) will be excluded. However, students with sniffles or those without warm clothing will not be allowed to stay in.
The safety and supervision of the students is our main concern. We will always take this into consideration when making outside recess decisions.
School Closings
Phoenix Academy generally follows OPS in making school closing decisions. Please check your local TV stations or our website for school closings due to weather.
Once students are at school, we will not close. However, parents are free to pick up children early due to weather concerns.
Winter Weather
Appropr iat e Out erwear
Thank you for your support.
Glenwood Road Hil l
Please note that Glenwood Road becomes icy at times due to the steep incline and may make turning into the parking lot difficult.
As a solution, students may be dropped off on Glenwood just west of the driveway and may walk up the sidewalk.
Additionally, it may be best to avoid driving up the hill during drop-off and pick-up as well. As an alternative, you may head west on Glenwood two streets and make a right on 67th Ave. which will take you to Western Ave. and avoid the steep hill.
As always, please use your best judgment and keep the safety of our students in mind during drop-off and pick-up. In case of icy roads drop off here
In the classroom students will be required to wear either Phoenix Academy sweatshirts or solid black or red sweatshirts or sweaters.
Please make sure that all jackets, school sweatshirts and winter clothing has your child's name in it.
Girls may wear solid colored tights or leggings under uniform.
Uniform Policy
Please see Sharyl Baca for purchasing a Phoenix sweatshirt.
Lunch AccountsPlease, no checks for students' pizza and hotdog orders. Cash only. Hotdogs are $3 each and pizza is $1 per slice.
You may use checks for milk accounts. Thank you!
After School Pr ogr ams: Nor th Star & Gir ls Inc.
N orth Star and Girls Inc. pick up at Phoenix Academy after school. This is an option for parents who cannot pick up between 3:30 and 4:00. However, we may lose this service unless we have a minimum of 8 students. Click on the logo for more information.
North Stars serves boys in grades 3-8.
Girls Inc. serves girls ages 6-18 years.
