History of LSAG (Continued) In the beginning, the object of the Lone Star Art Guild was to ad-vance the study and dissemination of art which portrays identifiable objects , as opposed to abstract design. Through the years, the league grew, and changed its charter to reflect this [growth], by changing the wording in 1987 to the following , “the object of this league shall be to advance the study and spread of art in its various forms”. This allowed more abstract-type art and “modern” art into the league shows. Although controversial at the time, this is now an integral part of the Lone Star Art Guild. Around 1989 or 1990, Russell Cushman of Navasota helped to es-tablish the “point” system for determining an artist's division. This was an effort to make things more “uniform” and to provide some standards for determining where an artist should compete. In 1998, Ed Huey was instrumental in leading a committee that abol-ished that point system in favor of a less rigid system that allowed for artist's choice of competition level. This system is our current system. It will be up to our future leaders to determine how we pro-ceed . Editor’s Note: Since the original writing of this history by Dee Fabrizio Turner, the Lone Star Art Guild has changed the categories in May 2011 to re-flect the many changes in modern art-making, including digital fine art, fine art print-making, and studio fine arts (putting jewelry, mosa-ics, and other such fine arts together), as well as Non-Objective Art, Mixed Media, etc. It was thought that judging by “type of art” would help artists to grow through mentoring and hearing judges’ critiques — a hallmark of the LSAG Convention over the years. History of Lone Star Art Guild
Editorial Note: The following history is made possible by the efforts of Dee Fabrizio Turner of the Brenham Fine Arts League, whose help in looking back through 30 years of yearbooks of the Brenham league was invaluable. Man has for centuries reached out through art to form a link from generation to generation. The creation and appreciation of art en-hance an awareness of the beauty and meaning of life . It was just such an awareness that prompted the forming of the Brenham Fine Arts League. It began in the early 1950's when a group of Brenham women met informally in their homes to pursue the creation and ap-preciation of various forms of art. It was a successful beginning and not only enriched the lives of the participants, but nurtured a desire to share the world of art with the entire community. Thus it was that in September of 1956, the Brenham Art League was formally organ-ized through the special efforts of Jeanne Hawley, Madeleine Scwecke, and Golda Johnson. Not content to spread their appreciation of art to just the Brenham community , these ladies and the Brenham league were instrumental in organizing the Lone Star Art Guild in 1961. Composed of art leagues in a radius of 150 miles of Houston, and later expanded to 200 mile radius, the Guild's first president was Jeanne Hawley, who was also the first president of the Brenham Art League. The Lone Star Art Guild had several outstanding district conventions and art shows, the first being held in June 1962, in the Art League Building in Houston. Texas City, Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Livingston were early hosts to the convention. Programs at all of the conventions included an annual juried exhibit, workshops, art dem-onstrations, art lessons, installation of officers and outings. The con-vention is particularly special because it is composed of only the winning artwork from the past year. This makes it a very special exhibit.

Membership Benefits with Lone Star Art Guild
The Lone Star Art Guild is comprised of a group of wonderful volunteers,
giving of themselves for the greater good of the art guild. Since 1961, LSAG has
built a system of mentoring artists through art competitions, art demonstrations,
critiques, and workshops. From among the member leagues, leaders are born, and
art careers are created, for the benefit of the communities we serve. Many artists
begin as students or hobby artists, growing into the teachers, mentors, art jurors,
judges, and event coordinators that bring other artists along in their practice of the
visual arts.

The fee is $1 per artist member of the club applying, with $15 as the
minimum fee for groups smaller than 15 artists. Artist members enjoy the chance
to vote on the Cover Contest winners at Convention, as well as seeing art demos
and hearing the critiques of our judges.

PROCEDURE For
Submitting Proposed Revisions to LSAG Exhibit Rules & By-laws
Proposals for revision of LSAG By-laws and Exhibit Rules must be made by one or more LSAG member clubs, rather than by individual member artists. The first responsibility of any league member proposing changes to the LSAG Exhibit rules should be to thoroughly study, recognize and understand the alleged existing problem or omission. The same criteria should be applied to any proposed solution. The procedure for submitting proposed changes to the LSAG Exhibit Rules & By-laws are: 1. Member artists submit a written formal proposal to their local art league. 2. The local league President will then submit the proposal to the local league for
consideration. 3. If the local league votes to endorse the written proposal it is then sent to the
Chairperson of the LSAG Exhibit Rules & By-laws Committee along with any appropriate supporting material.
4. The Chairperson of the LSAG Exhibit Rules & By-laws Committee will con-
vene a meeting of the committee to study the proposal and make a recommen-dation of any appropriate revisions to the LSAG Board for discussion at the Spring meeting.
5. The Presidents of the member clubs will then take the committee recommen-
dations back to their own local club to decide whether or not their club will support the recommended revisions.
6. The proposed recommendations will be voted on by the club representatives at
the LSAG Annual Convention. If adopted, the revisions will become effective immediately following the Annual Convention and will be reflected in the LSAG Yearbook.
7. Following a voted matter, the Rules & By-laws Chairman will revise the Con-
stitution, Rules & By-laws and give dated, revised material to the 3rd VP to publish in the Yearbook, as well as the Webmaster for updating the LSAG Website.

Reporting Member League Show Award Winners
Each member art league MUST sponsor at least one show during the year, which is run according to the Lone Star Art Guild rules. After the judging, the award winners for that show must be entered into the LSAG Database by the member league. The award-winning artwork from a show is eligible for entry into the Lone Star Art Guild convention, which is held annually in mid-May, or the nearest available date.
Eligible award winners from local shows include 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbon winners and, if room is available at the convention, also 1st Honorable Mention ribbon winners. All of the show’s “BESTS” are also eligible, if awarded by the judge. For example, Best of Show, Best Floral, Best Professional, or whatever the local league has for their “BESTS”. People’s Choice awards are NOT eligible as they are not judged by the hired judge for that show.
To report the winners, please check the LSAG Website under “Show Database” link which is on the LSAG home page. We will no longer use Excel spreadsheets. You will key show results directly into the Database.
If a member league decides to combine categories because a show is too small, or the league decides to subdivide categories because the show is too large, then, when reporting the results, the awards MUST be put back into the required LSAG categories for reporting the winners. Divisions must not be combined when reporting.
Also note that when reporting Best of Show, Best Floral, etc. the artist’s division and cate-gory MUST be included for reporting into the Database.
A TITLE MUST BE GIVEN TO EACH ARTWORK!!!
The database must record a title for each work so that it may be verified from show to show. The title must not be changed after it receives a ribbon.
Each artwork must have the artist’s name, address, phone, e-mail, the title of the artwork, the show title, show host league, and date where the ribbon was won, the home league to which the artist belongs, the artist division and artwork category, and the outside approxi-mate measurements of the piece (include width, height, and depth for 3D artwork) .
When an artist is member of more than one LSAG member league, he or she must designate the league they consider “home” for all local judged show (the same one, consistently).
School students must have the division broken down by High School, Middle School or Elementary. Include the categories for the school students as well as the division (level).

LSAG Mission Statement
The Lone Star Art Guild was organized at Brenham, Texas on April 7, 1961, and is made up of art clubs within a 200-mile radius of Houston, Texas. The object of this guild is to advance the study and dissemination of fine art in all its forms.

Introduction and Dedication
The Lone Star Art Guild formed as an art guild on April 7, 1961. Only
five years after founding Brenham Fine Arts League, co-founders Jeanne H. Haw-
ley, Madeleine Scwecke, and Golda Johnson, with several other BFAL members
worked to unite several art leagues in the 150-mile radius of Houston. The purpose
of this association was an annual convention featuring only award-winning art,
under the mixed-league board of the LSAG. Mrs. Dorothy Hargraves, the second
LSAG President, is now remembered annually in the Dorothy Hargraves Best Flo-
ral Memorial Award given at each convention.
The basics of the convention were set in those early days, and since then
we have grown to include leagues within a 200-mile radius of Houston, as well as
now accepting not only traditional fine art but also modern art media and styles.
We member leagues encourage artists of every level of ability, young students as
well as more mature artists, leading towards a great convention experience to be
enjoyed by hundreds of artists.
This year we would like to honor two volunteers who helped modernize
the way LSAG works today — Theresa G. Thornhill and Jessica Gettemy.
Thornhill, a Past-President — 2010-2011, is our Webmistress, and Database Coor-
dinator. She has willingly and patiently shared her expertise and time as we moved
toward a 21st-Century process for registration. She and Jessica Gettemy modern-
ized our E-mail/Communications into the LSAG BlogSpot in 2010-2012. With
Jessica Gettemy’s tireless and systematic updates, the LSAG BlogSpot has kept
LSAG Member Leagues and the area art community in touch in a modern way.
Thank you, Theresa and Jessica.
We would like to take this time to thank all of our members for their part
in helping the Lone Star Art Guild to continue on. Without our volunteers, we
would be nothing; we would not exist. Have a blessed and creative year!

Category C: Drawing - pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, scratchboard, pastel drawing, watercolor drawings, crayon, colored pencil, markers and other types or mixtures of mark-making. Category D: Mixed Media - 2D artwork displaying two or more types of media, including assemblage, collage, acrylic or watercolor painting on scratchboard drawings (beyond minimal treatment), and other mixed me-dia. Category E: Photography - digital and film photography minimally al-tered through technology using standard darkroom (like dodging and burn-ing, etc) and traditional photographic techniques. Category F: Digital Art - all forms of digital art, including photos that have been greatly manipulated through some digital format, presented as framed art or similar presentation. Category G: Sculpture - 3-D forms in various media, including bas re-lief. Note: Clay sculpture may be entered into the Convention Exhibit as either clay or bronze; if the sculpture has been bronzed since the local club award, due to the loss of the original clay in the bronze casting process, the bronze is acceptable. Category H: Non-objective Fine Art in any medium including abstract or experimental work. Category I: Traditional Printmaking - lithography, relief, intaglio, mono-print, screen-printing, reduction block printing, and other forms of very limited -edition (less than 10 prints) fine art printing -- not reproduc-tions of original works. Category J: Studio Fine Crafts - Strictly original fine crafts created in a studio environment such as glass blowing, stained glass, pottery, wood-work, jewelry, mosaic, weaving, fiber art, metal work, and other fine hand-crafting techniques; finely crafted items, often but not always created for utilitarian purposes. Note on Category Choice : Each artist decides in which category to place his or her work, with the advice of the member league’s show chairman when needed, unless all work is juried into the league’s LSAG show.

PROFESSIONAL - artist’s choice for this designation SEMI-PROFESSIONAL - artist’s choice to move up NON-PROFESSIONAL - artist’s choice to move up
ADULT STUDENT - one who has painted, sculpted, etc., for less than three years (self-study) or under the direction of a teacher. The teacher may give any and all verbal assistance needed; how-ever, the teacher MAY NOT PHYSICALLY WORK ON the artwork to be entered in a show. After two (2) years of College Art (4 art courses) or three (3) years as an Adult Student, any LSAG member will automatically be placed in the Non-Professional Division.
SCHOOL STUDENT - Any school student, grades K-12 who has retained a student standing. When school competition is heavy, then this Artist Division should be divided as follows:
Elementary (grades K-5) Middle School (grades 6-8) High School (grades 9-12) Once an artist is established in one of the five (5) Artist Divisions,
that artist may move up in Artist Divisions, but may never move down regardless of any new art mediums worked in/or submitted. An artist should show in the same Artist Division the entire LSAG year. If an artist does enter in a particular division earlier in the year and then, later in the year, enters shows in a higher division, then the artist should enter ALL of his or her artwork, for later LSAG league shows or convention registration, in the higher division.
10. There will be ten (10) adult Art Categories within each competition level, which are generally separated by art types and medium used. Local leagues may exclude categories that do not receive art entries for the judging process. The Following guidelines were written to assist artists in choosing an Art Category for artwork:
Category A: Painting, not under glass or Plexiglas - oil, acrylic, en-caustic, varnished/sealed watercolor paintings, and other durable painting media, including minimal mixtures of painting media such as acrylics with archival ink.
Category B: Painting, under glass or Plexiglas - Acrylic, watercolor, egg tempera, ink painting, Sumi-e or Oriental brush painting, oil, encaustic, pastels, and other such painting media, including minimal mixtures of painting media such as acrylic or watercolor with ink details.

5. All hang-able artwork must be ready to hang complete with wire or
be submitted in such a manner that it can be handled by the “hanging committee”. If any piece of artwork is extremely large, heavy, or par-ticularly fragile, then special arrangements must be made with the “hanging committee” for its display. ENTRIES ARE ENTERED AT OWNER’S OWN RISK, although every precaution will be taken in handling.
6. The following information must be placed on the back or under art-
works: name, address, cell phone number, price (or NFS), medium, Artist Division and Art Category. The signature or name on your art-work will be covered for judging.
7. The hosting club(s) will set up registration and exhibition fees. A regis-
tration fee will be charged to each person attending the Convention and an exhibition fee will be charged for each artwork that you submit.
If you enter your artwork in the Convention Exhibit and do not person-
ally attend, then you may or may not be charged a registration fee. This is at the discretion of the Convention Steering Committee and will be made clear on the registration form you receive prior to the convention.
8. The following Ribbon Awards will be made in each Artist Division and
Art Category if appropriate. The host club may give other awards at their discretion. A SINGLE WORK OF ART MAY RECEIVE NO MORE THAN TWO AWARDS.

9. The officers of each club shall be responsible to see that their members
compete in the proper artist division and art category.

President Diana Burke comes to this office with depth of experience. Al-though she moved to League City two years ago, she is still a member of Conroe Art League, for which she has served separate two-year terms in diverse roles, including President, Grant Director, and Judged Show Chairman and other roles. Burke received a degree from University of Houston in Mechanical En-gineering, and is now retired from her career as a programmer. At about 50 years of age, Diana Burke began working in watercolors, her first love. She is now working in oils and pastels. “I get so caught up in the magic of mixing colors that I sometimes forget to put them on the canvas!”

LSAG ANNUAL EXHIBIT RULES 1. Members must be in good standing with their local LSAG affili-
ated Club. 2. COPIES of existing art or artwork made by using another artist’s
concept and design will not qualify for entering the LSAG conven-tion. To qualify as an “Original Artwork” it must be the end result of the submitting artist’s ORIGINAL CONCEPT, DESIGN AND EFFORT; i.e., artwork in which only the creating artist physically integrates and/or manipulates every component of his/her original con-cept & design.
Teachers, friends, critics, etc. may give verbal assistance but may not physically work on the artwork being submitted for competition. Art-work created in, or as the result of a workshop, will only qualify if the workshop adopts your idea (that’s your original concept), and you do the workshop set-up (that’s your effort) using your model (or object) to be painted, sculpted, etc. (that’s your original design). In this case, your finished artwork would qualify for competition in the LSAG; however, no other class member’s personal effort to reproduce a rendi-tion of your original concept and design would qualify!
Photographs, pictures and existing artwork are in the same category as teachers, friends, critics, etc. These resources may be used for refer-ence only.
3. All entries must have won a First, Second, Third Place, or First
Honorable Mention at their home show, another LSAG club show or other judge’s critique. If the Convention entries are becoming too nu-merous, and the size of the show must be reduced, then the host club(s) may limit entries to First, Second, and Third Place. Once an art-work has won a First place ribbon or Best of Show/Floral in an LSAG Show during the year, it is eligible for the LSAG Convention. It may not be entered in another LSAG Club Show.
4. All entries must be winners since the last LSAG Convention. At the
time of receiving a member club award, the entry must have been completed within the prior twenty-four months.

DUTIES OF CHAIRMEN
WORKSHOP CHAIRMAN shall have charge of obtaining a location for artist demonstrations, workshops and classes. Shall be in charge of general assistance to workshop operations and engage the workshop instructors. YEARBOOK CHAIRMAN shall compile material for the Yearbook. Shall request information of new officers, show dates, any changes in meeting dates or place of Member Clubs and shall list any information that would be beneficial for the general membership. Shall obtain new Member Club information from 3rd Vice-President. Shall go over the material with the President and one or two assistants before final publication. Shall secure bids on the cost of printing the Yearbook and supervise publication.
Shall mail Yearbooks to Delegates, Member Club Presidents and remainder of Board of Directors by October 1 of each year. Each LSAG Member Club shall pre-order yearbooks according to the club’s needs, receive a minimum of 5 year-books with one additional yearbook issued for each 5 members (or as the order indicates). Additional yearbooks will be printed for advertising to new clubs.
Yearbooks shall be presented to each newly-elected officer at the annual Conven-tion.
Competition for Yearbook Front and Back Covers – Each organization shall be responsible for planning the competition within their league for the de-sign of the back and front covers of the LSAG Yearbook. The member league’s winning design shall be presented at the LSAG Convention for competition with other leagues’ winners. The selection of the winning entries will be by those LSAG members attending the LSAG Convention. The entry shall be no more than 8½” x 5½” for the back or front cover, black-and-white images in the Portrait or Vertical Format. Two Xerox copies shall be at-tached to the back of each entry. This will make it possible to determine how well the entry will reproduce and also permit the original to be returned to the owner. One Xerox copy each shall be presented to both the Incoming President and Secretary at the Convention. The 3rd VP will be sure to put all cover materi-als together and deliver these to the next Yearbook Coordinator.

He/she shall read all mail received by LSAG at the meetings. Shall receive names of club delegates, which are to be distributed to other LSAG Officers. Minutes shall include slate of officers elected. Book of Minutes and stationery shall be turned over to Incoming Board after Conven-tion minutes are prepared.
Section 6. TREASURER shall serve on the Executive Board of Directors and the
Convention Steering Committee. Shall send notices to all Member Clubs by August 15 concerning payment of dues. Shall send notices to Member Clubs for any additional member dues by March 1. Shall receive, collect and pay all Guild money, subject to the vote of the Guild. Shall render at each meet-ing a signed itemized statement of all money received and disbursed. Shall be responsible for end-of-year Financial Statement given to each Member Club, Delegate and Yearbook Chairman.
When requested by the Convention Steering Committee, the LSAG treas-urer will make reasonable funds available to a Host Club for facility and other deposits required, with written approval of the LSAG President. Shall issue membership cards to each member upon payment of dues.
Section 7. PARLIAMENTARIAN shall give the rules of parliamentary proce-
dures when called upon by the President. (Robert's Rules of Order) Section 8. AUDITOR shall examine the books of the Treasurer not later than
one month after the annual installation meeting (Convention) and shall bring a written report to be read at the Fall Meeting.
Section 9. HISTORIAN shall keep a book and record of pictures and articles of
noteworthy events pertaining to the Guild. Responsible for photographs of ribbon winners at Convention for records. Obtain from 2nd Vice-President a list of winners of the LSAG Convention Competition.

Section 2. FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT shall serve on the Executive
Board of Directors and the Convention Steering Committee. Shall serve as liaison with Convention Host Committees for Program, Banquet, Publicity, Door Prizes and Workshops. Shall assist the President as required.
Section 3. SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT shall serve on the Executive
Board of Directors and the Convention Steering Committee. Shall serve as liaison with Convention Committees for Exhibits, Judging, Flats and Art Sales. Shall assist the President as required.
Section 4. THIRD VICE-PRESIDENT shall serve on the Executive Board of
Directors and the Convention Steering Committee, head up the Member-ship Committee. Shall recruit new Member Clubs. Shall provide new Member Clubs with Yearbooks. Shall introduce new Member Clubs at the Convention and the Board of Directors meetings. Shall be responsible for the publication and distribution of a Yearbook annually, as early as possi-ble in the new LSAG year. Shall coordinate the Yearbook production with the Yearbook Editor. Shall provide the Yearbook Editor with information pertaining to the updated and current Constitution and By-laws and LSAG Annual Exhibit Rules, a list of new officers, show dates and meeting dates of all member clubs. Shall establish the rules for and conduct a Yearbook Cover Competition, as well as getting winners’ materials to the Yearbook editor.
Section 5. SECRETARY shall serve on the Executive Board of Directors.
Shall send notices to all LSAG Member Clubs at least three weeks prior to meetings. Shall keep a record of all proceedings (Executive Board meet-ings, Board of Directors meetings, Convention and Special Called meet-

ARTICLE X – EXECUTIVE BOARD OF
DIRECTORS
The Executive Board shall consist of President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, 3rd Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, Parliamentarian, Historian and immediate Past-President. The Executive Board shall have the authority to sign contracts, make decisions authorized by the Board of Direc-tors and make decisions requiring immediate action. The President shall notify Executive Board Members of decisions to be discussed and voted upon.
In the event the immediate Past-President holds an elected office, he/she will have one vote only.
At least four Member Clubs must be represented on the Executive Board. Only two votes are allowed each Club represented on the Execu-tive Board. There must be a three-fourths agreement among Clubs rep-resented at a district-wide meeting to constitute a quorum.
The Executive Board shall fill vacancies occurring after installation of offi-cers. Prior to installation, the Nominating Committee shall fill vacancies.
ARTICLE XI – VOTING
Section 1. At the opening of the Board of Directors meetings, all members present shall vote individually. A simple majority shall carry.
Section 2. Voting power at Board of Directors meetings shall rest with three per-sons from each Member Club; i.e., two elected Delegates and the Member Club President, giving each club three votes. Each Member Club shall have an Alternate Delegate with no vote except when representing an absent Dele-gate. A simple majority shall carry. If three Delegates are unable to attend, absentee Delegates may issue a written proxy vote.
ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS
The Constitution and by-laws may be amended at any regular business meeting by two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors members pre-sent, provided notice has been given at the previous Board of Direc-tors meeting. Votes may be cast in person or by written proxy.
ARTICLE XIII – DISSOLUTION
In the event that the Lone Star Art Guild shall disband, the net amount

Each LSAG Club must report the eligible winners from their shows within 10 days after each club show. Award winner lists from Club Shows held too late in the current competition year for entry in the Convention will be eligible for the Conven-tion of the following year. Editor’s Note: The entire member league would be affected by this timing for reporting results.
An artwork can be entered in LSAG Convention competition one time only!
ARTICLE VII – ELECTIONS Section 1. At the Fall Meeting, the President shall appoint a Chairman for
the Nominating Committee and two members from different clubs shall be elected from the floor to serve on the Nominating Committee.
Section 2. The Chairman for the Nominating Committee shall present the new slate of officers at the Spring Meeting at which time the election shall be held. Nominations may be made from the floor. If there is but one nominee for an office, election shall be by voice.
Section 3. The Executive Board, at the next meeting following a board vacancy, shall fill vacancies that occur in an executive office. The Nominating Committee shall fill vacancies that occur among officers elected, but not yet installed.
ARTICLE VIII – PAST-PRESIDENTS
Section 1. Past-Presidents shall be permanently listed in the yearbook in the order of service.
Section 2. The immediate Past-President shall serve in an advisory capac-ity. All former Presidents shall serve on the Board of Directors.
ARTICLE IX – OFFICERS
Section 1. The officers of the Guild shall be: President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, 3rd Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Audi-tor. The President shall appoint the Parliamentarian and Historian.
Section 2. The President shall appoint Committee Chairmen to work dur-ing the term of office.
Section 3. The Board of Directors shall be composed of the following: the Executive Officers, former Presidents, the Chairmen of the Standing Com-mittees and three delegates (President and two elected representatives) from each Member Club.

Since the President needs to be in contact with the Secretary, it is prefer-able that these officers be selected from closely related areas.
Since the 1st and 2nd Vice-Presidents, Treasurer and Auditor are directly concerned with the Annual Convention, then it is advisable that these offi-cers be selected from areas geographically close to the Convention city or town. Shall try for continuity on the Board in selecting the slate of offi-cers.
Nominating Committee shall present the slate of officers for the coming year during the Spring Board Meeting. After nominations are asked for from the floor, the election of officers by members of the Board of Direc-tors shall proceed. The new slate of officers shall take office immediately after installation at the LSAG Convention.

Guild by October 1. Section 3. A notice for additional member dues shall be sent to all Mem-
ber Clubs by March 1. Such dues shall be payable to the Lone Star Art Guild by April 1.
Section 4. The Lone Star Art Guild fiscal year shall be from June 1 to the following May 31. If the Convention falls later in the summer, all officer and committee responsibilities continue until one month after convention.
ARTICLE V – MEETINGS
Section 1. There shall be one Fall Meeting at which time the Board of Directors shall meet to formulate plans for the annual Convention, held in May or nearest available date. The Auditor shall bring a written report of outgoing Treasurer’s books to read at this meeting.
Section 2. There shall be one Spring Meeting at which time the Board of Direc-tors shall meet for the purpose of coordinating plans for the annual Conven-tion. The Nominating Committee shall present the slate of officers for the coming year in the spring meeting. After nominations from the floor are asked for, the election of officers by members of the Board of Directors shall proceed. The Executive Board will be installed at the Convention and take office immediately.
Section 3. The ANNUAL DISTRICT CONVENTION shall be held during the month of May or nearest available date. This convention shall include a District Juried Art Exhibit, art program (demonstration and/or workshops) and a Board of Directors meeting with the installation of officers.
ARTICLE VI – EXHIBIT
There shall be one Membership Exhibit at the Convention. Each Lone Star Art Guild member club must participate in the planning and organizing involved in hosting this annual Convention/Exhibit. The leagues are placed in “hosting” groups with the Convention/Exhibit rotating every few years between these groups. The hosting and rotation schedule will be published in the Lone Star Art Guild yearbook each year; the schedule is subject to change by the LSAG Executive Board, as needed.
If one of the hosting leagues volunteers to do a job for the convention at the organizational meeting held in the summer or fall of that convention year, and then refuses to do that job within 2 months of the convention date —barring natural disaster or some exigent circumstance — that league is responsible for finding another volunteer from their league to do the job. If they do not find a replacement volunteer, then the membership of said league will not be eligible to participate in the convention that year. Within the current competition year, exhibit entries must have won a First,

ARTICLE I - NAME The name of this club shall be the Lone Star Art Guild.
ARTICLE II – OBJECT The object of this club shall be to advance the study of fine art in all its forms by mentoring artists and art leagues, and through competition-related critiques.
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP Any art club approved by the Membership Committee, within a radius of two hundred miles of Houston, Texas, and whose members are interested in furthering the promotion of art, is eligible for membership. All mem-bers of Member Clubs are automatically members of the Lone Star Art Guild. Each Lone Star Art Guild member club must host at least one open show each year. Clubs may co-host an open show with another club, as long as each club has one show on record as their Open Show in the Database (as agreed by LSAG Board vote, 2012). An “open show” is a show conducted under the LSAG Exhibit Rules and open to all LSAG members.
ARTICLE IV – DUES
Section 1. The annual dues for each Member Club shall be one dollar ($1.00) per member with a minimum of fifteen dollars ($15.00) per club (for groups smaller than 15 people). The LSAG does not recognize “family” groups, only individual artists, therefore Member Clubs hav-ing “family” group rates must still pay the LSAG dues of $1.00 per individual artist in any “family” group.
Section 2. The Treasurer shall send a notice of payment of dues to all Member Clubs by August 15. Dues shall be payable to Lone Star Art

Each year, two leagues are chosen to host the Lone Star Art Guild meetings. One meeting is held in the fall and one is held in the spring . We would like to reiterate several guidelines, which should be used when the Presidents of each member league decide whether or not to volunteer their league for the hosting duties : 1) We need a room separate from the host league’s showplace where we can con-duct a meeting. 2) This room should either be free of charge or should not cost more than $100 to rent. 3) Most host leagues also provide a nice luncheon that occurs prior to or during the meeting. The cost of the luncheon is paid by each individual member of each league attending the luncheon. The hosting league must appoint one member of their league who will coordinate the luncheon and keep a head count of those from each league attending. 4) There will be a final cut-off date announced to all the league presidents . After that date, if a member league has reserved 10 places and only 6 people show up for the luncheon, then that league is responsible for the costs of the extra 4 lunches that were reserved but not used. During a past meeting, we fell short by 6 people and the LSAG was forced to pick up the bill for 6 lunches not eaten. We do not want that to happen again. Each local league must be responsible for the number it reserves. 5) The member from the hosting league who organized and kept a head count should also be responsible for collecting the money for the luncheon from each league. It can be done that day of the meeting, or the money can be sent in prior to the meeting, but the host league is responsible for collecting the monies. 6) If a league that has volunteered for hosting duties feels it cannot find facilities using these criteria for the meeting, then the President of that league should inform the LSAG president at least 1 month prior to the meeting that there is a problem. At that time, we will move the hosting of the meeting to a league which might have more options available as to a meeting location, etc.

Art League of Bay City
A Matagorda County native and resident, Heather Serrill had dab-bled in photography most of her life. She became more enthused in art during high school, after joining the yearbook staff. Photography and digital art are her current areas of concentration. Serrill joined the Art League of Bay City in 2009 and has won sev-eral awards with her pieces in local and LSAG shows. Her cover de-sign was taken as a photograph of a sand dollar from Matagorda Beach and computer-enhanced into a sketch, a design chosen in honor of the LSAG convention being held in her home county in 2012.

Front Cover Winner Valerie Collman
Houston Art Society
Valerie Collman is an accomplished oil and pastel artist, who prefers landscapes and seascapes. She is a native Texan, San Antonio born, and now resides in Houston. She studies under Tina Szajko, an award-winning artist in all mediums. Collman is a member of the Lone Star Art Guild, the Houston Art Society and has received awards from HAS for oil and pastel. She has exhibited and sold her pieces in several local Houston galleries and continues to explore artistic expression.

Lone Star Art Guild Yearbook Cover Contest
Each year at the Lone Star Art Guild convention the members of the LSAG vote on artwork that will be used on the front and back covers of the yearbook. The entries for this contest are submitted by its member leagues. Each league may submit two entries, either a front and back cover entry, or two front cover entries, or two back cover entries. These entries usually are determined by the voting within each member league on entries submitted by their members. The winners receive a check for $50 each. We will again hold this competition this year. Each league may submit two entries. Each entry should be black and white and "copy ready". The entry size is 8" H x5"W. For front cover entries, try to have "Lone Star Art Guild" and "2012-2013" somewhere in the design. The design itself must be an artwork drawn by the artist and not “computer aided”. The exception to this is the lettering which may be done using a computer. Two Xerox copies should accompany the artwork to demonstrate how “camera ready” the artwork is. If the artist wishes the original artwork returned, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope. Try not to include all the member league names on the cover as this may change from year to year. The league presidents will send the winning entries for their leagues to the LSAG 3rd Vice-President: Barbara Westbrook, 2976 County Road 218, Bay City, TX 77414. This should be postmarked no later than April 1, 2013. There will be a cash award of $50 for the front and back cover winners. Competition for Yearbook Front and Back Covers – Each organization shall be responsible for planning the competition within their league for the design of the back and front covers of the LSAG Yearbook. The member league’s winning design shall be presented at the LSAG Convention for competition with other leagues’ winners. The selection of the winning entries will be by those LSAG members attending the LSAG Convention. The entry shall be no more than 8½” x 5½” for the back or front cover, black-and-white images in the Portrait or Vertical Format. Two Xerox copies shall be at-tached to the back of each entry. This will make it possible to determine how well the entry will reproduce and also permit the original to be returned to the owner. One Xerox copy each shall be presented to both the Incoming President and Secretary at the Convention. The 3rd VP will be sure to put all cover materi-als together and deliver these to the next Yearbook Coordinator.
