Peralta was a social worker and was an active member of various organizations, which included Dingras Womens Club, Ilocos Norte Womens Club, and the Provincial Womens Club of Ilocos Norte. Peralta worked hard for the passage of a legislation that grants Filipino women the right to vote. She also proposed the celebration of Mothers Day to the National Convention of Womens Club.

Josefa Llanes Escoda (Pepa) September 20, 1898- January 6, 1945 was born in Dingras, Ilocos NorteShe was well-known Filipino advocate of women's right of suffrage and founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines. She was also acknowledged as a heroine-martyr during the World War II. Josefa became the first National Executive of GSP. She served in this capacity until she was captured by the Japanese occupation army.During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, she and her husband helped Filipino and American prisoners in several concentration camps. On August 27, 1944, she was arrested and imprisoned in Fort Santiago where she and Antonio were reported to have been interrogated and executed.

Gabriela Silang March 19, 1731- September 20 1763 born in Santa, Ilocos Sur died in Vigan, Ilocos SurShe is the wife of the Ilocano insurgent leader, Diego Silang. Following Diego's assassination in 1763, she led the group for four months before she was captured and executed by the colonial government of the Spanish East Indies. She is now remembered in Philippine history as the countrys Joan of Arc and first female leader for Filipino liberation. Her furious ride towards Vigan is immortalized in many statues all over the country erected in memory of her courage and sacrifice.

Elpidio Quirino

November 16, 1890 February 29, 1956 born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur died in Quezon CityHe was a Filipino politician, and the sixth President of the Philippines. He began his career in politics as an elected representative of Ilocus Sur in 1919 and became a senator in 1925. He was re-elected as senator in 1931. Qurino was one of the members of the delegates who helped pass the Tydings-McDuffie Act that later paved the way to Philippine Independence.

Jose Burgos Feb. 9, 1837-Feb. 17, 1872 born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur died in ManilaHe is a Roman Catholic priest who advocated the reform of Spanish rule in the Philippines. His execution made him a martyr of the period preceding the Philippine Revolution. In To the Spanish People, an open letter of 1871, he appealed for reform and a greater measure of self-determination for the Filipinos and attacked the power and privilege of the church. On Feb. 17, 1872, he and two other priests, Gmez and Zamora, were publicly executed in Manila.

He was the first Asian to be awarded the medal. On Lapurap, Basilan, Philippines, Nsperos, defended his unit's position against natives armed with spears despite being severely wounded. Nsperos became the first Filipino and Asian to receive the Medal of Honor; the medal was presented by Brigadier General Bell in February 1913. Buenaventura was often targeted for removal from public office throughout his six-year term. De la Cruz was extraordinarily big, thus earning the sobriquet, the giants son. He was fond of playing with calves. Also unusually fast and strong, he ran races with horses and grappled in a tug-of-war with the carabaos. As a boy, he learned the rudiments of reading and writing Spanish from the town priest. Being intelligent, he could easily read many books.

His artistic ability surfaced during his early years. By seventh grade, his teachers were so impressed with him that he was dubbed "apprentice teacher" in his art class. He is a Filipino painter who was the leader of the revolutionary Thirteen Moderns who engaged their classical compatriots in heated debate over the nature and function of art. He was named a National Artist in 1976.

Benjamin G. Dy, Sr. September 22, 1952- February 16, 2013 born in Cauayan, Isabela Quezon CityHe was a Filipino politician and a former Governor of Isabela (province). He was the patriarch of the Dy family of the province of Isabela, Philippines is a former Mayor of the municipality of Cauayan of Isabela (1965-1969) and former Governor of the same province for 22 years (1970-1992).

He was not a Cebuano but an Ibanag from Isabela province who came to Cebu to help the Cebuanos in their struggle against Spain and the United States. He is probably one of the most unsung revolutionaries the Philippines ever had. His parentage and other information about him remain mysterious, but his legacy is more essential for the Filipinos to know.

He became the editor of Rising Philippines, a daily read by almost every literate Filipino because of its nationalistic contests. He became technical assistant to then Senate President Manuel Luis Quezon. Maramag published countless poems which were devoured and admired by the reading public, like The Atheist, A Christ without a Cross, and The Presentation. He wrote about the history of the English language in the Philippines. Eulogio Balao March 11, 1907- August 1977 born in Tuguegarao, CagayanHe was a Filipino soldier and politician. Balao joined the Philippine Constabulary as a young man and rose through its ranks. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Forces Far East. As a Major, Balao served as Donald Blackburn's Inspector General for his guerrilla force.:As a commanding officer, he led 11th Infantry Battalion troops to a victorious engagement during the Battle of Bessang. He became a brigadier general and was appointed Vice Chief of Staff before, in 1956, assuming the office of Secretary of National Defense Balao received a number of awards and honors throughout his career, including the Distinguished Service Star and induction into the Philippine Legion of Honor, where he was bestowed the rank of Commander.Region III

Aurora Quezon February 19, 1888- April 28, 1949 born in Baler, Aurora died in Bongabon, Nueva EcijaShe was the wife of Philippine President Manuel Luis Quezn and the First Lady of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. She became the first Chairman of the Philippine National Red Cross. She continued to be involved in civic work, such as the efforts to rebuild the Antipolo Church. Aurora Boulevard In Quezon City was named in her honor in 1951, and in the same year, President Qurino created the Aurora sub-province, comprising Baler and surrounding areas in Quezon Province. The Concerned Women of the Philippines have named the Aurora Aragon Quezon Peace Awards after Mrs. Quezon to remind people of the fact that in times of violence, the first to suffer are the innocent.

Manuel Quezon August 19, 1878 August 1, 1944 born in Baler, Aurora died in Saranac Lake, New YorkHe served as president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. He was the first Filipino to head a government of the Philippines and is considered by most Filipinos to have been the second president of the Philippines, after Emilio Aguinaldo. He was the 1st president elected through a national election and the first incumbent to secure re-election He is known as the "Father of the National Language". The Quezon Province, Quezon Bridge in Manila and the Manuel L. Quezon University, and many streets are named after him. Luz Magsaysay July 25, 1915 August 17, 2004 born in Balanga, BataanShe was the wife of Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay and the seventh First Lady of the Philippines. As the President's consort, Magsaysay was active in many socio-civic programs especially with the Philippine National Red Cross, of which she was honorary Chairwoman for several years. She is remembered as one of the most admired First Ladies and distinguished herself for her warmth and simplicity.

Tomas Pinpin born between 1580 and 1585 born in Abucay, Bataan date of his death is unknownHe was a printer, writer and publisher from Abucay, a municipality in the province of Bataan, Philippines, who was the first Filipino printer and is sometimes referred as the "Prince of the Filipino Printers." Pinpin is remembered for being the first native Filipino to publish and print a book, "Librong Pagaaralan nang manga Tagalog nang Uicang Castilla" in 1610, entirely written by himself in the old Tagalog orthography.

Cayetano Arellano March 2, 1847 December 23, 1920 born in Orion, Bataan died in ManilaHe was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines under the American Civil Government. He was Chief Justice from 1901 until his retirement on April 12, 1920, making him the longest serving Chief Justice. Cayetano Arellano High School in Sta. Cruz, Manila is named after him. Arellano gave his name to Arellano University, opened in 1938 as the Arellano Law College. The School had multiple campuses, including a law school.

Marcelo H. Del Pilar August 30, 1850- July 4, 1896 born in Kupang, San Nicolas, Bulacan died in Barcelona, SpainDel Pilar better known by his pen name Plaridel, was a Filipino writer, lawyer, and journalist. He was the second and last editor of the La Solidaridad (Solidarity), the newspaper of the Reform Movement in Spain. He was named as the Great Propagandist of the Propaganda Movement. Using his pen name, Plaridel, he wrote satires against the Spanish friars, notably "Dasalan at Tuksuhan" and "Kaiingat Kayo." He died because of Tuberculosis.

Gregorio Del Pilar (Goyong) November 14, 1875 December 2, 1899 born in San Jose, Bulacan died in Tirad Pass, Ilocos SurGoyong was one of the youngest generals in the Philippine Revolutionary Forces during the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine-American War. He is most known for his role and death at the Battle of Tirad Pass. Because of his youth, he was called the "Boy General." Fort Del Pilar, home of the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio, is named after him.

Francisco Balagtas April 2, 1788- February 20, 1862 born in Bigaa, Bulacan died in Udyong, BataanFrancisco Balagtas also known as Francisco Baltazar, was a prominent Filipino poet, and is widely considered as one of the greatest Filipino literary laureate for his impact on Filipino literature. The famous epic, Florante at Laura, is regarded as his defining work. Balagtas is so greatly revered in the Philippines that the term for Filipino debate in extemporaneous verse is named after him: Balagtasan.

Pio Valenzuela July 11, 1869April 6, 1956 born and died in Polo, BulacanHe was a Filipino physician and patriot who were among the leaders of the Katipunan that started the Philippine Revolution against Spain. Valenzuela City in northern Metro Manila was named after him. Valenzuela was the first mayor (American regime) of municipality of Polo (now Valenzuela City) from 1899-1900 before he became the governor of Bulacan province from 1921-1925.

Maximo Viola October 7, 1857- September 3, 1933 born and died in San Miguel de Mayumo, BulacanDr. Maximo Viola together with his two brothers led a battle against the Spaniards and stayed at Biak-na-Bato. It was in Barcelona where he met Rizal and with him traveled to different countries in Europe. He was also the one who lent Rizal money to have his famous novel Noli Me Tangere be published. When he went back to the Philippines he spent most of his time practicing medicine. But his communication with Rizal didnt cease until the latter has been exiled to Dapitan.

Mariano Ponce March 23, 1863 May 23, 1918 Baliwag, Bulacan died in Sai Ying Pun Community Complex, British Hong KongHe was a Filipino physician, writer, and active member of the Propaganda Movement. In Spain, he was among the founders of La Solidaridad and Asociacion Hispano-Filipino. Among his significant works was Efemerides Filipinas, a column on historical events in the Philippines which appeared in La Oceania Espaola and El Ideal. He wrote Ang Wika at Lahi, A discussion on the importance of a national language. He served as Bulacan's representative to the National Assembly. He was made director of "El Renacimiento" (The Renaissance). Ponce later ran for a seat in the Philippine Assembly and was elected assemblyman for the second district of Bulacan. Ponce wrote his memoirs, "Cartas Sobre La Revolucin" (Letters on the Revolution), Trinidad Tecson November 18, 1848- January 28, 1928 born in San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan died in Ermita ManilaShe is known as the "Mother of Biak-na-Bato" and "Mother of Mercy", fought to gain Philippines independence. She was given the title "Mother of Biak-na-Bato" by Emilio Aguinaldo. She was cited as the "Mother of the Philippine National Red Cross" for her service to her fellow Katipuneros. She joined the revolutionary forces led by Gen. Del Pilar and participated in the assault on the province of Bulacan. She also served in the Malolos Republic and was designated as the Commissary of War.

Nicanor Abelardo February 7, 1893 March 21, 1934 San Miguel de Mayumo, BulacanHe was a Filipino composer known for his Kundiman songs, especially before the Second World War. At the age of 8, he was able to compose his estoryahe first work, a waltz entitled "Ang Unang Buko," which was dedicated to his grandmother. Among his works were "Nasaan Ka Irog," "Magbalik Ka Hirang," and "Himutok." He died in 1934 at the age of 41, leaving a collection of more than 140 works.

Francisco Santiago January 29, 1889 September 28, 1947 born in Santa Maria, BulacanHe was a Filipino musician, sometimes called The Father of Kundiman Art Song. His first composition, Purita, was dedicated to the first Carnival Queen, Pura Villanueva. Santiago's masterpiece was the "Concerto in B flat minor" for pianoforte and orchestra and his most famous piece "Kundiman, (Anak-Dalita)". His other compositions are the kundiman "Pakiusap", "Ang Pag-ibig", "Alaala Kita", "Ikaw at Ako", "Aking Bituin", "Madaling Araw" and "Pagsikat ng Araw".

Narcisa De Leon October 29, 1877 February 6, 1966 born in San Miguel, Bulacan died in Quezon CityShe was a Filipino film producer. Clad daily in the frugal rural dress of the camisn, saya and chinelas, Doa Sisang, as she was widely known, was already a 61-year old widow when she entered the film industry. Nonetheless, she chartered her family-owned LVN Pictures into a dominant position in post-World War II Philippine cinema. In addition, de Leon was one of the most highly regarded Filipino businesswomen of the first half of the 20th century.

Amado V. Hernandez September 13, 1903March 24, 1970 born in Hagonoy, BulacanHe was a Filipino writer and labor leader who was known for his criticism of social injustices in the Philippines and was later imprisoned for his involvement in the communist movement. He was the central figure in a landmark legal case that took 13 years to settle. His famous works include his novel Luha ng Buwaya and Mga Ibong Mandaragit, his poems like Isang Dipang Langit and Kung Tuyo na ang Luha Mo Aking Bayan.

Ernani Cuenco May 10, 1936 1988 Malolos, BulacanA composer, film scorer, musical director and music teacher, he wrote an outstanding and memorable body of works that resonate with the Filipino sense of musicality and which embody an ingenious voice that raises the aesthetic dimensions of contemporary Filipino music. He played with the Filipino Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Manila Symphony Orchestra, and the Manila Chamber Soloists. His songs and ballads include "Nahan, Kahit na Magtiis," "Pilipinas," and "Gaano Kita Kamahal." The latter song shows how he has enriched the Filipino love ballad by adding the elements of kundiman

Cecilia Talangpaz and Mother Dionisia Talangpaz July 16, 1693- July 31, 1731 (Cecilia) March 12, 1691- October 12, 1732 (Dionisia) both born in Calumpit, Bulacan both died in San Sebastian, ManilaThey are Kapampangan Filipino Roman Catholic figures. Thay established the "Beaterio de San Sebastian de Calumpang" (now the "Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters"), in 1719. The Augustinian Recollect Sisters is the second Filipino congregation of women religious founded in the Philippines, after the Religious of the Virgin Mary established by Venerable Ignacia del Espritu Santo. Talangpaz's beatification process is underway with protocol number: 2303. On September 10, 1999, the causes for the beatification of the Talangpaz sisters were opened, bestowed with "Nulla Osta" and thereby giving them the titles "Servants of God." Francisco Alonso Liongson July 1, 1896- May 14, 1965 born in Bacolor, Pampanga died in ManilaHe was born into an Ilustrado family from Pampanga, Philippines at the turn of the 20th century. Don Paco was one of the founders and first president of the Circulo Escenico, a Spanish dramatic club of aficionados founded in Bacolor, Pampanga that rose to national prominence and became the longest surviving organization of its kind in the Philippines. Don Paco was regarded as the most prolific producer of Spanish theatrical works in the Philippines. Francisco Tongio Liongson December 3, 1869- February 20, 1919 born in Bacolor, Pampanga died in ManilaHe was a Spanish-trained medical doctor and a contemporary of Jos Rizal during his student days in Spain.[2] A great influence on his son, Dr. Liongson was actively involved in the struggle for independence and became Pampanga's governor and first Senator to the Philippine Legislature.

Jose Abad Santos February 19, 1886 May 2, 1942 born in San Fernando, Pampanga died in Malabang, Lanao del SurHe was the 5th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. He briefly served as the Acting President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines during World War II, in behalf of Pres. Quezon after the government went in exile to the US. He was killed by the Japanese forces for refusing to cooperate during their occupation of the country. He is commemorated on the 1000 banknote of the Philippines together with Brigadier General Vicente Lim and Josefa Llanes Escoda.

Diosdado Macapagal September 28, 1910 April 21, 1997 born in Lubao, Pampanga died in Makati CityHe was the 9th President of the Philippines, and the sixth Vice-President. He also served as a member of the House of Representatives. He is the father of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who was the 14th President of the Philippines. He introduced the country's first land reform law, placed the peso on the free currency exchange market, and liberalized foreign exchange and import controls.

Tolentino formed Junta de Amigos, a secret organization composed of former Katipuneros to fight for independence from the Americans. He was the Founder of El Parnaso Filipino, a school promoting Tagalog and Katimawan cooperative

Mariano Llanera November 9, 1855- September 19, 1942 born and died in Cabiao, Nueva EcijaHe was a Filipino General who fought in the provinces of Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Nueva Ecija. When the Philippine-American War broke out, he was in the Philippines and was assigned by Gen. Antonio Luna as Lieutenant General in Manila. The General Llanera Memorial Lodge No. 168, established in 1963 at Gapan City, was named in honor of him. The General Mariano Llanera Day, a commemoration of Llanera's attack against the Spaniards on September 2, 1896, was celebrated in Nueva Ecija - Cry of Nueva Ecija.

Dorothy Acueza Jones January 6, 1936 November 7, 2001 born in Gapan, Nueva Ecija died in ManilaShe was popularly known by her stage name Nida Blanca, was a Filipina actress. She starred in over 163 movies and 14 television shows and received over 16 awards for movies and six awards for television during her 50-year film career. She was named one of 15 Best Actress of all Time by YES magazine. She was stabbed to death in a condo parking lot in San Juan City on November 7, 2001.

April 3, 1939 May 21, 1991 born in San Jose, Nueva Ecija died in Quezon CityHe is a Filipino film director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant Filipino filmmakers in Philippine cinema history. In 1983, he founded the organization Concerned Artists of the Philippines , dedicated to helping artists address issues confronting the country. He has directed landmark films such as Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (1974), Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag (1975), Insiang (1976), and Orapronobis (1989). During the Battle of Bataan, he was the Commanding General of the 41st Infantry Division, Philippine Army (USAFFE). Vicente Lim was the first Filipino graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point (Class of 1914). Prior to the establishment of the Philippine Army, he served as an officer in the Philippine Scouts (a now-defunct component of the US Army). He was one of the seven Charter Members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. He is memorialized in the Philippines' 1,000-Peso banknote together with two other Filipino heroes who fought and died against the Japanese during the Second World War.

Gregorio F. A distant relative of the Rizal family, he frequently provided advice to Philippine national hero Jos Rizal during his school days in Manila. He started his political career as a Democrata or a member of the opposition party, and not until there was a general realignment of parties due to the divisive struggle over the approval of the Independence Law in 1933, did he switch to the majority or the Nacionalista Party. He nursed the party during its darkest hours, and steered it successfully through the political reefs and typhoons that rocked the local scene, thus earning him the nickname "Mr. Nacionalista".

Ildefonso Santos January 23, 1897- January 29, 2014 born in Baritan, Malabon, RizalHe was a Filipino educator and poet. He showed his talent in poetry through a love letter for a secret lover. His cousin, Leonardo Diangson, read the letter, and it was later published in the newspaper Ang Mith. Santos began writing poetry in earnest and using Ilaw Silangan as his pen name. He finished his studies as a first professor in Pilipino at the National Teachers College. Before World War II, he is also a supervisor for the national language. Some of his works include Tatlong Inakay (The Three Chicks or Three Young Fowls), Gabi (Night) and Ang Guryon (The Kite).

Apolinario de la Cruz July 22, 1814 - November 4, 1841 born in Lucban, QuezonKnown as Hermano Pule or Puli ("Brother Pule"), led a major revolt against Spanish rule of the Philippines based on a struggle for religious freedom and independence. de la Cruz rallied 4,000 followers at Barrio Isabang on the slope of Mount Banahaw and was able to resist an attack by Alcalde-mayor Joaqun Ortega and his 300 men on October 23, 1841. However, reinforcements came on November 1, with Colonel Joaqun Huet who annihilated the Cofradia forces, allegedly massacring hundreds of old men, women, and children who joined Hermano Pule in Alitao in defying the Catholic leaders of the Church.
