About Karnatak University :
Karnatak University was established at Dharwad in the Indian state of
Karnataka in October 1949. It had its official inauguration on March 1950. It was
established to cater to the needs of higher education of people of this region. It is
spread over vast area of 888 acres and has its own ambience with a sylvan setting
of undulating greenery. The rapid development of the institution is credited to
Wrangler Dr. D.C. Pavate, the then Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak Univesity,
Dharwad from 1954 to 1967. Karnatak University is the second oldest University
in the Karnataka state. It has 48 PG Departments, 3 PG Centers, 5 Constituent
Colleges, 275 affiliated colleges. 223 PG and 2780 U.G Teachers are working
under P.G. Departments, Constituent and Affiliated Colleges. Around 7726 PG
and 82,938 UG Students are persuing there studies. Various traditional and need
based courses are offered to prepare the students to face the larger challenges of
life. The University has been accredited with 'A' grade by National Assessment
Accreditation Council. The excellence in teaching, research and academic
performance has earned the prestigious tag of 'University with potential for
Excellence' by the UGC in 2014 which speaks of its academic excellence with its
70 years of fruitful existence.

Department of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Studies – A Profile:
The Department of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Studies was established in the year 1988. Prior to this Karnatak
University holds the credit of being the pioneering institution of higher education to start Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
Chair in the department of Political Science headed by late Prof. A.M. Rajashekhariah, who obtained his Ph.D
on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He was instrumental in establishing the Ambedkar Chair with the help of UGC grants. Department of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Studies offers Post-Graduate Diploma in Ambedkar and Open
Elective Courses which helps the students to understand the life and philosophy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Every
year around 500 students study Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Thoughts. The department has organized Dr. B.R. Ambedkar
memorial lectures by inviting eminent jurists like Justice P.B. Gajendragadkar the then, Chief Justice of
Maharashtra, Justice A. Varadaraja, Justice A.R. Krishna Iyer, Justice O. Chinnappa Reddy and Justice M. Rama
Jois who had delivered special lectures on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's Thoughts and Contribution to society. The
department offers courses in Dr. Ambedkar's life and mission, social and economic philosophy, religious
philosophy and political thoughts of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The department has been instrumental in organizing conferences,
seminars, workshops, special talks on various aspects of Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar's contribution to the world at large and oppressed people in
particular. Now the department has set out to organize a National Seminar.

Karnataka. The Institute has been established in
July 2011 at Mysuru. It conducts various
Programmes such as Research, Ethnographic
Study, Evaluat ion, Training, Seminars ,
Workshops, Conferences, Production of
Documentary Fi lms on Tribal Life and
establishment of tribal museum and library.

Call for papers :
Papers on the above sub themes are invited by scholars, academicians, faculty members, students,
researchers and experts in the field. The participants have to send their full length papers both in hard copy &
soft copy to the Dept’s e-mail id : (exclusively for the paper acceptance [email protected]
thonly) by 25 November 2019. The papers must be less than 1500 words in length in A4 size. Times New
Roman, 12 font, one and half spacing. Papers must be strictly original in nature and should be free from
plagiarism. References should be given at the end of the paper as per publication manual of MLA handbook.
Declaration should be given by the author that the paper is original and has not been published earlier or has not
been submitted / accepted for publication elsewhere. The papers shall be peer reviewed before they find
inclusion in the volume with ISBN. Priority will be given to the articles having originality & quality with
regard to content and presentation of ideas. Adherence to these guidelines is able to enhance the quality of
research papers.
