Breakfast Week 24 - 30 January Breakfast Week is a campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast and demonstrate the wealth of wonderful breakfast options available breakfast should never be boring!

during the week and 8.28 am at the weekend The nations favourite breakfast is a cooked breakfast,

followed by porridge, breakfast cereal and then toast The breakfast foods we are most likely to eat during the

week are wholegrain cereal (37%) followed by toast with spread (32%) and then porridge (27%)

Taste, speed, filling, quick to prepare and health, are the most important factors when it comes to breakfast and there is a growing trend for eating breakfast out of the home.

A worrying 45%* of people are skipping breakfast once or more during the week, with more than one in ten (13%) never eating it.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, giving you energy for the day ahead. Skipping breakfast can result in low energy, feeling grumpy and struggling to concentrate.

Congratulations to Eloise Wood (7GS/JMP) and Finn Parton (7JWK) who are the first students in the whole school to achieve their silver award (80 credits). Well done you are both a credit to IGS!

Well done to Emily Field (9LAM) who competed in the North East Regional Diving Championships at the weekend. Emily performed fantastically well and finished with a bronze medal in the Platform category, qualifying her for the National Finals later this year. Good luck Emily!

Well done to Rebekah Gray (11AHF) who recently had a haircut and donated her lovely locks to the Princess Trust (a charity who make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment). Rebekah has been putting up with the hassle of very long hair so that she could have a 10 inch haircut! It costs 350 to convert this real hair into a child's wig and Rebekah is now asking for donations to help make this happen.

Congratulations to our sportshall athletics team who competed in the competition at Oakbank School on Tuesday afternoon. We had four teams taking part in the competition. The Year 7 girls came 1st beating Oakbank School by two points. They have now qualified for the Bradford Championships later in the year. The year 7 boys and Year 8 girls finished a close 2nd just two points behind Oakbank School and the Year 8 boys finished a respectable 3rd. All the athletes who took part were a credit to school showing great effort and determination.

On Wednesday, the U15 girls cricket team took part in a West Yorkshire Indoor Cricket Finals Tournament. Captained by Ellie Cooper the team showed great spirit and enthusiasm throughout the day. There was outstanding batting from Lily Gazeley, Kirsty McMillan, Sophie Armitage and Rachel Scott. Becky Hadfield demonstrated amazing wicket keeping and made the most of a great opportunity to stump an opposition player out. Caitlan Rhodes showed some excellent bowling and got plenty of wickets for the team. Imogen Parton, Kara Milligan and Sophie Mason were very valuable to Ilkley in fielding, stopping boundary shots. Ellie Cooper showed a great all round display with the bat and bowling. Overall, Ilkley came a commendable 3rd place with Holmfirth placed 1st. The team look forward to a possible outdoor tournament in the coming summer.

Every two years, Members the of Youth Parliament (MYPs) are elected to represent their city at a local, regional and national level. Leeds are currently electing four new MYPs who will be representing the young people of Leeds from 2016 to 2018.

Simply Splendid! On Thursday 14th January the Year 12 an 13 Theatre Studies students of IGS and Horsforth School were treated to a magical performance of The Odyssey by Splendid Theatre Company. The students were taken on this wild and often hilarious journey by three extremely talented actresses, managing to play all of the characters, except for Odysseus who was, of course, played by a wooden spoon. The actors brought the audience into the action and provided an enjoyable performance for all. This was followed by an intensive workshop on Greek Chorus and the importance of body language, as it is 55% of your communication!

The sixth form students will now use their experience to inform their devising, acting and written concept work. It was an absolutely fantastic theatrical morning!

At the Colleges Academy of Hair & Beauty, High Street, you can visit the Hairdressing, Beauty and Nail Therapies Studios alongside the Colleges Brasserie restaurant and training kitchens where students learn their skills from industry professionals. For Year 11 pupils the High Street Campus is also featuring two Computing Tasters at 10am and 11.15am - hacking electronics and computer control with programming robots, making electronics and doing weird things with Jelly Babies as well as offering advice about computer science courses.
