What a night! Last Friday, 200 of our class of 2015 students partied the night away at their Leavers’ Ball at the Craiglands Hotel. It was a night of great food, great company and lots of fun...with impeccable behaviour from our leaving Year 11. They were all dressed to impress with tux’s and gowns, all making the most of this opportunity to catch up with friends, and even some teachers, before the summer. Next time we see them we hope to celebrate their success in their recent exams!

You’re Hired!
This week saw our Year 10 students experience first hand just what it’s like to attend a job interview. Every year the mock interviews run to give Year 10 students a taste of what it is like to prepare for and attend a job interview. All students prepare CVs, application letters and then attend an interview. We are extremely lucky that so many experienced local employers give up their time to grill our, sometimes nervous, mock interviewees. It’s a great experience and will stand you in good stead for the future. Over the week some of our interviewers shared their top interview tips on twitter with us.

Summer Concert Well done to all our musicians, singers and backstagers who took part in the Summer Concert on Thursday Evening. The sell out event drew together the musical talents of our choirs, orchestras, samba band, quartets and soloists alongside some our transition students from Ben Rhydding School and Ashlands School. There was an eclectic mix of musical pieces: Katy Perry mashups: favourites from musicals and the movies: up tempo numbers such as ‘Carnival’ by the Samba Band, and a rousing rendition of Skyfall by the Showstoppers Choir...it was fantastic! Thank you to everyone involved, bravo!
Year 9 and 10 Rounders Are you involved in the Year 10 rounders on Monday 29th June or Year 9 on Tuesday 30th June? Well done to Kezia Finch (10AHF), Flora Lee (10BJS), Emily Robson (10LSL), Emily Priest (10JLF), Helena Carslaw (10CT) and Bethy McKeefry (10JLF) who are coming to the end of their Languages Competition. This week the team dressed up as Argentinian gauchos as they made a final South American stop in their journey through the Spanish speaking World: Spain, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Cuba and Argentina. The girls have been sending in weekly tweets (some of them musical - Cuba Quiero Bailar la Salsa and No llores por mi Argentina) and have also carried out some excellent creative tasks including making a shrine to Charlotte Bronte and a Mayan Calendar based on Ilkley. The team will attend a presentation day on July 2nd at York University and fingers crossed, will come away with a prize! Thank you to www.myhorsetm.com who provided the wearable horses, contact [email protected] for further details.
Good Luck Gauchos!
Congratulations to Nathan Foster (9MWC) and Hannah Wellock (10BJS) who both took part in the Fencing England Youth Championships at the University of Hertfordshire this weekend. Hannah came 13th in the U15 girls’ épée event, and Nathan came 18th in the U15 boys’ épée.

Well done to our U14 and U15 tennis teams who took part in the North of England Invitation Tennis Tournament played at Bradford Grammar School on Tuesday 23rd June.
IGS were the only state school represented. All players played very competitively during the day and fought hard in all matches. Many of our students were under age but took on the challenge of playing the event against far more experienced players and really made huge improvements during the day. The experience was invaluable to them all.
The U14 Girls team won through to the final beating Ampleforth College, Seburgh School, Bradford Grammar School and Pocklington School on route to the final.
In a closely fought final the girls were 1 match all but unfortunately lost in games to Queen Margaret's School, York. The first couple, Amber Woffindin and Izzy Weir won all their matches during the day and the second couple of Nisha Cant and Darcy Charlesworth only lost 2 of their 6 matches.
Congratulations to all players, they were all a credit to Ilkley Grammar School.
U14 girls’ Amber Woffindin (8DSF), Izzy Weir (9HM), Nisha Cant (9HM) and Darcy Charlesworth (9MEK)
U15 girls’ Annie Edwards (10LSL), Eleanor Pilling (10JLF), Emily Robson (10LSL) and Rosie Brown (9JP)
U14 boys’ Max Rogers (7ASH), Joe Higgitt (8PDH), Pedram Habibzadeh (8PDH) and Matthew Carter (8LAM)

Well done to our Year 7 cricketers who made it through to the Yorkshire Cup Area Final. On Wednesday 17th June the team faced Ermysted's Grammar School in the semi final of the Bradford schools league. Match report provided by Daniel Woodthorpe (7DJS).
The team went on to play The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) on Wednesday 24th June in the final at Ben Rhydding Cricket Club. GSAL batted first and scored 178, IGS batted second and were all out for 60 runs. The boys did really well to get to the final and on another day we could have beaten GSAL...it just wasn’t our night!
Congratulations to Ben Smithson (9ALC) who has been selected to play for the Yorkshire U15's Wheelchair basketball squad at The Lord's Taverners National Junior Championships at Worcester University from 31st July - 2nd August.
This will be Ben's second time that he has been selected; in 2013 Ben’s team came home with Bronze medals. Good luck!
Unfortunately due to the weather the match couldn't be played outside so instead of flicking a coin (to potentially forfeit the match) the team played indoor cricket. The team was Max Rogers (7ASH), James Patchett (7MEH), Reuben Foster (7ELC), Arthur Turner (7VEC), Harry Strachan (7LNR), Joshua Hall (7ASH), Will Hughes (7MEH), Tom Hills (7MEH), Isaac Luffman (7MEH), Dan Woodthorpe (7DJS), Marcus Woodthorpe (7AMD)and Ben Smith (7LNR). They put in an outstanding effort. Amazingly they scored over 170 runs in 20 overs. The star batsman of the innings was Max Rogers with 85 runs. There wasn't a star bowler as everyone chipped in and bowled as well as they could.
