Neurotoxicology Specialty Section (NTSS) Members are industry, academia, and government researchers and regulators interested in the adverse effects of chemical and biological agents on the structure and function of the nervous systems. NTSS also includes Graduate Student and Post-Doctoral SOT Members, and sponsors travel and poster awards to help foster early career neurotoxicologists. The NTSS has an annual business meeting at the SOT National Conference to help promote collaboration amongst neurotoxicologists. His groundbreaking 1972 study marked the beginning of a long struggle to alert the scientific community as well as policy makers and regulatory bodies about the dangers of lead exposure in children. The inverse association between blood lead levels and IQ in children that now seems so well established is only a result of his tireless and undaunted efforts. Herb was an inspiration to many of us fledglings in our careers and a champion of our efforts. He may be gone, but his voice will always be heard. Dr. Needleman was the recipient of the Distinguished Neurotoxicologist Award from NTSS in 2006. Dr. Diane Miller Dr. Diane B. Miller passed away on Oct. 6, 2017 after a year-long illness. Diane spent several years as a research scientist in the Neurotoxicology Division of the US EPA in NC before moving to CDC/NIOSH in Morgantown WV. Her life-long interest was the role of physiological and environmental stressors on the nervous system Her work was an important and leading influence in bringing to light the behavioral effects of stress. She was Director of the stress/cortisol assessment component of a longitudinal study of the Buffalo, NYPD, with the goal of determining the impact of the stress of police work on the brain and other body systems. She is mourned by her long time collaborator and husband Jim O’Callaghan, her many friends, and colleagues. . Dr. Bernard “Bernie” Weiss Dr. Bernie Weiss, professor emeritus of Environmental Medicine and Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, U Rochester Medical Center, passed away on January 22 at the age of 92. Bernie was a monumental and beloved figure in the scientific community and helped found a field of research that tracks the impact of toxic chemicals on human behavior. His research sparked national discussions about the dangers of artificial food dyes, pesticides, and chemicals in plastics. He often advocated for better policies to protect the public. He joined SOT in 1982. In 2003, Dr. Weiss was the recipient of the NTSS Distinguished Neurotoxicologist Award. Special Thanks To Our Sponsors!
