Slide 2 In One Day European History Slide 3 Classical Europe- 800-400 BC Greece became known as the Cradle of Democracy First democratic government Athens wrote the first democratic constitution Slide 4 Rome Rome-began as a monarchy, became a republic, and finally an empire Christianity began and spread through the Roman Empire The Eastern Roman Empire fell in AD 400s Western Roman Empire fell in 1453 to the Ottoman Turks (modern turkey) Slide 5 Roman Empire The Roman Empire controlled most of Europe during its height Slide 6 Medieval Europe-500s AD- 1350 AD Roman Catholic Church became a political power Crusades (holy wars) were sponsored by the church to take Jerusalem and Palestine from the Muslims Slide 7 Medieval Europe-500s AD- 1350 AD Society was dominated by Feudalism. In this society kings gave land to nobles and lords who in turn provided knights to the kings for military service Slide 8 Renaissance -1350-1700 Humanism arose during this time. People began to focus more on the world and humans than religion Writers-Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare Slide 9 Renaissance -1350-1700 Artists- Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarotti Slide 10 Renaissance -1350-1700 Protestant Reformation took place- Christians revolted against the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church. Started by Martin Luther a German Monk. Slide 11 Revolution British colonies revolted, French overthrew monarchy Slide 12 Modern Era Industrial Revolution-began in Great Britain in 1700s and spread. People began using machines to produce goods. WWI-war spread across Europe involving almost all countries and killing millions WWII-War between the Allied and Axis Powers which was started by Germany under the rule of Hitler (holocaust, Atomic Bomb, Kamikazes, Cold War-Global competition between the United States and Soviet Union to dominate the worlds governments and economies.
