Sterling Tiger wrestlers by posting a4-0 mark in the annual Sterling Invi-tational Dual Tournament Saturdayin Wally Post Gym and defeatingSkyline, 66-18, Thursday in the Ti-ger Den in a Tri-Valley Conference(TVC) match.
In Saturday’s Sterling InvitationalMeet, the Tigers defeated University44-24, Merino 42-31, St. Francis,Kan., 60-18 and Akron 48-36.
Seniors Luke Engelhaupt andDylan Veal continued to remain un-defeated on the season, withEngelhaupt going 4-0 in the 170 lb.class and Veal 4-0 in the 182 lb.division and was selected the topwrestler for the tournament.
The Tigers forfeited only twoweight classes during the week, gain-ing more strength and momentum atthe right time of the season.
“It was very positive for us to winthe tournament,” said Sterling CoachJustin Jedlicka. “We filled most ofthe weights and we are getting a fullteam together. We still have a lot towork on, but we’re getting closer towhere we need to be by regionaltime, which is 3 weeks away. Thekids should be proud because theyare making their weights and work-ing hard and improving.”
Sterling will host Fort MorganThursday in the Tiger Den in anotherTVC meet.
On Friday and Saturday the Ti-gers will compete in the tough
Chadron, Neb., Invitational. By theend of the week the Tigers couldhave up to 4 wrestlers with over 20wins, including Engelhaupt, Veal,sophomore Austin Krier at 120 lbs.and senior Fernando Aviles at 285lbs.
