As a wholly owned subsidiary of STEAG GmbH we provi-de comprehensive engineering and other services dealing with all aspects of energy. Worldwide, we have more than 1,300 employees with expertise in process engineering, civil engineering, electrical and whatever else is required to deal with any type of power projects. The scope of services we offer starts with the concept, and goes right through to the basic engineering and technical specifi-cations, tendering process and contract negotiations, for and on behalf of the sponsor and investor. During the implementation phase, we also carry out quality assurance and commissioning supervision.

Solar PowerSTEAG is increasingly focusing on solar thermal power plants. Here too, we can draw upon our experience in power generation from thermal power plants of all types. Solar radiation is concentrated to generate heat which is supplied to a conventional water-steam cycle (Concentrated Solar Power). For this we are engaged in the Parabolic Trough, Linear Fresnel and Solar Tower technologies.STEAG has been able to demonstrate its expertise in this field in several solar thermal power plant projects worldwi-de. In addition, we develop concepts combining various technologies such as CSP with biomass combustion and seawater desalination, or fossil fueled power plants with integrated solar arrays (Solar Topping). Our main services comprise location-specific studies for power plant and storage concepts, technical planning, calls for tenders and site supervision and commissioning of solar power plants. After commissioning we offer operation services from consultancy up to full scope O&M services.

Fossil EfficiencyFuels must be used efficiently. Therefore we are focused on energy conversion, in-plant power generation, and heat and power distribution, applying the basic principles of low power generation costs, good environmental compatibi-lity, high power plant availability, high rate of utilization of energy sources, and long life. From the variety of possible fuels (along with coal: natural gas, refinery gas, refinery by-products, other special gases, biomass and waste) we select the optimum fuel. We provide services for every-thing ranging from engine-based units with a few MW to large-scale power plants with up to 1,000 MW.

Wind EnergyWe also benefit from our extensive experience in planning and realiza-tion of large generating plants for wind farms. Our expertise inclu-des technical project development including site evaluation plus analysis of wind measurements, basic layout, power grid connection, infrastruc-ture planning and feasibility studies, project planning, site supervision and commissioning.Furthermore we offer O&M services and asset management of wind farms.

Solutions for flue gasModern air pollution control is an essential factor in the economical and environmentally compatible operation of an energy system. It often requires the incorporation of efficient air pollution control systems into new plants or the extensive retrofitting of existing thermal power plants with such systems. This is the only way to meet the increasin-gly restrictive emission standards worldwide for oxides of sulphur and nitrogen, and for dust.

This is where the extensive know-how of our engineers in the field of design, construction and operation of flue gas cleaning systems for coal-fired power plants and combined-cycle plants, waste and biomass-fired plants and industrial power plants comes into play.

Waste-to-energy and biomassSTEAG is a specialist for the enginee-ring of waste-to-energy and biomass facilities. We plan and build thermal plants for the treatment and disposal of biomass, residual waste, refuse-derived fuels, hazardous waste, and production residues. Waste whose recycling would be economically in-efficient thus replaces primary energy sources. We make systematic use of our waste treatment know-how for the purpose of generating energy from biomass. In addition, we address issues of co-combustion, success-fully combining our experience from different fields.

Our plant services cover all work as an operation and maintenance contractor. We currently operate various plants in different parts of the world that are owned by our customers. We also contribute, develop and sell energy management systems and operation management systems to help opti-mise plant performance and improve efficiency. These tools have been developed and tested in our own plants and are now used by power plant operators worldwide.

Engineering and Consulting for fossil and renewable energySince 2005 STEAG Energy Services GmbH has been active in South Africa, providing expert engineering services to customers like Eskom and Sasol. Our services are mainly executed by our branch in Johannesburg. The branch is our hub for Southern Africa and has continuous access to the head office in Germany, establishing an international Power Business Company with specialized support.
