This is a true paradise for tourists and hikers. One of the most extensive medieval monuments awaiting its visitors is located on "vysoký ostroh" at the confluence of the Vltava River and Křemežský Brook – the romantic ruins of a castle called Dívčí kámen (Maiden's stone). One of the most beautiful buildings built in the South Bohemian gothic style is the Zlatá Koruna, Cistercian Monastery, as are – the magnificent the magnificent 25 stations on the Way of the Cross in Římov. It is not only rafters who knoware familiar with Vyšší Brod, the lowest-situated village in the Czech Republic, where the Rosenberg clan established a monastery in the 13th century – which later became their tomb and is considered one of the most important and most beautiful monuments in the South Bohemian region. Water Sports and Activities The nearby Lake Lipno (20 km), makes Český Krumlov the starting point for rafters and rafting trips and for numerous water-related activities. Lake Lipno is the largest water body (4,870 ha) and a popular tourist destination, offering its visitors many sport and water sport related activities. Fishermen love this lake, as it represents a true fishing paradise. Experienced and starting yachtsmen alike can use the servi- ces of several boat and yacht rental places, to rent a catamaran, row boat, power boat or a pedal boat. Lake Lipno is also a paradise for windsurfers. You can bring your own windsurfing board or other water equipment or you may rent the equipment here and try it under the supervision of experienced instructors. Winter Sports For those who prefer winter sports the Ski resort Lipno will satisfy the winter skiing needs of experienced skiers, families with children or school skiing courses. The capacity of the centre is 3,500 occupants – sufficient for the many visitors interested in great winter holidays. Expert skiers may take a trip to the nearby ski centres of Sternstein, Schöneben and Hochficht (Smrčina) in neighbouring Austria. For those interested in cross-country skiing Lipno and Šumava offer hundreds of kilometres of cross-country tracks and skating tracks. The starting points are usually easily accessible by car or by train. An interesting innovation of recent years is the maintained skating track which is several kilometres long. The track is located on Lake Lipno lake and when frozen it may be used by individual skaters or by families with small children. The perfectly flat top of Lake Lipno lake is ideal for cross-country skiers or for hiking enthusiasts. TRACKING ANCIENT TIMES

Castle and ChateauThe landmark and architectural jewel of the city. If we consider its size,only Prague castle can compete with the castle. Two sightseeing toursof the chateau interiors from the 16th through 19th century offer a breathtaking view from the gallery of the chateau tower – includingfive castle courtyards, live bears in the castle trench and a unique attraction – the authentic Baroque castle theatre. Castle MuseumCastle Museum invites visitors to a trip through time and brings them to thetimes of the Lords of Krumlov, Rosenbergs and other noble houses residingin Český Krumlov over the centuries. St. Vitus' ChurchThe late-Gothic cathedral, the slender white tower of which shinesabove the red roofs of ancient houses, and together with the castletower creates the characteristic city silhouette. Gothic figural frescosfrom the 15th century wait for their visitors' admiration inside the boldthree-aisle structure, as do the magnificent dome, the early Baroquealtar and the Renaissance tombstones.

SynagogueSince the beginning of the 20th century, the panorama of the Krumlovspires has been enhanced by a synagogue. It was one of the view thatwithstood the war, and it was used for worship services by American sol-diers and as a storage facility. However, visitors will be convinced thatthe uniqueness and mystical atmosphere of the site has been preserved.A permanent exhibition presents the history of Jewish culture.

Museum Fotoatelier SeidelA surprised visitor of the newly reconstructed, original and only recentlyopened photo studio of Josef Seidel – a pioneer in professional photography in the first half of the 20th century – would probably haveto ask the question: What year is it? The entire studio and its equipment isoriginal and still fully operational. Antique photographic cameras, magnifying lenses and darkroom equipment. An illusion of idyllic times of the First Republic evokes a number of photographs and postcards, original glass negatives and also some personal belongings of Josef Seidel.All as if used only yesterday... Regional MuseumMore than 34 thousand real and preserved items and exhibits representthe long and rich history of the city and its region. The Original JesuitGrammar School and the first Baroque building in the city will welcomeits first visitors in June 2010 in its newly reconstructed premises. An eventcalled the "Story of the City" will be held here to commemorate and celebrate the 700th anniversary of the first written record about ČeskýKrumlov as a municipality. Egon Schiele Art CentrumMaster pieces by world famous artists are presented in this extensive exhibition in the Renaissance building – the former city brewery is todaythe centre of arts, named after the famous expressionist Egon Schiele(1890-1918) whose art works and aquarelles are presented in the form ofa permanent exhibition. Egon Schiele AtelierThis cozy house on the bank of the Vltava, surrounded by roses and vines, isa place where several of Egon Schiel's works were created. The painter livedhere in 1911 and experienced a period full of good fortune and stormy in-spiration. The idyllic mood in the house has continued until today and ena-bles visitors to remember the famous artist's stay.

International Art Gallery + Czech Culture Gallery Art lovers may see the works of almost all plastic arts including sculptu-res and design work in this quiet and pleasant environment in the secondcastle courtyard, (so-called Máselnice) and also in the Gothic and Re-naissance Wenceslas courtyards and basements, located in the fourthcourtyard. Moldavite MuseumThe globally unique semi-precious stones appeared 15 million yearsago during the impact of an enormous meteorite on the territory ofwhat is today Bavaria, from where the catastrophic explosion dis-bursed them up to a distance of 400 km. In Southern Bohemia, theancients found pieces of green glass in the fields, but their origin re-mained a mystery for a long time. Horseback Tours and Scooter RidesEven though Český Krumlov is a rather small city, it offers so much funstuff and so many interesting activities that sooner or later everyone gets tired. However, the city and its surroundings may be experiencedwith very little effort. If you are a technical guru you can rent a scooter,a four-wheel scooter or you can try the popular segway. To get downquickly and with little effort from Kleť Mountain or ride around the neighbourhood, you can rent a scooter. However, the nicest view of thecity of Český Krumlov is from horseback.
