Giris Civil Defense Corps, met Wednesday evening at the Fire Hall grounds where they were instructed by two sergeants from
| the Jamestown Marine Recruiting i Office in military drilling.

Portland Township Civil Defense Director Howard Lewis presented Major Kanistanaux her "wings" for having completed more than 20 hours as a ground observer corps airplane spotter.
At the next meeting Mr. Tanner wall show a film on "Nurses Aid in the Defense Corp" in conjunction with the corps first aid training, which they have almost completed.
Several invitations have been received by the corps to enter various parades this summer.
John Fitzgerald Plans to Speak At Brocton
BROCTON — John Fitzgerald, Fredonia lawyer, will be the speaker at the annual Memorial Day program to be held in Portland Evergreen Cemetery at 10:30 A.M. May 30. Music will be furnished by the Brocton Central School Band under the direction of John Quar-taro.
James Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hanson, will recite the Gettysburg Address. Rev. Nelson Miller will give the invocation and the Benediction.
Mrs. Esther Travis, American Legion Auxiliary president, will place the Memorial wreath on the monument in honor ot the war
dead in the town of Portland. The American Legion, which
sponsors the program, and several Boy Scout troops will give out merit awards.

Junior-Senior Prom Held at Brocton Central
The annual Junior-Senior prom was held Friday evening in Brocton Central School auditorium.
The king and queen were chosen with queen, Sandra Johnson and king, Kenny Blodgett. Their court included Ronald Gilbert Joan Burbans. Richard Gustafson and Barbara Fuller.
Ohaperones were Mr. and Mrs. Rqbert Nixon, Mr. and Mrs. Ar-den Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Larson, and Rexford Ingham, advisor.
Miss Lillian Erickson Honored at Shower
BROCTON -Miss Nancy Ferrin entertained Thursday evening at a variety shower at the home of Mrs. Arthur Hall. Green Street in honor of Miss Lillian Erickson,' whose marriage to James Driscoll, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Driscoll, will take place July 9.
The classmates of ho4h Miss Er-rickson and Miss Ferrin were guests. An evening of games was held. Refreshments were served.
The youngest one present was Susan Ann Covey, 3 weeks old, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Covey.
There were four generations of the Thayer family present, including Miss Marguerite Thayer, night supervisor at Trie Veterans Hospital, Buffalo.
Guests were present from Kennedy, Randolph and' Jamestown.
The honor guest received gifts of money, flowers and personal gifts. Some of the flowers were gifts from California residents.
Refreshments were served, with Miss Marguerite Thayer assisting. Miss Thayer returned to Buffalo Monday night.
