links Thambiah Road with Arya Gowda Road,West Mambalam. The road was one-way andentry was allowed only from Thambiah Roadside. But it was made 2-way recently, and theincrease in vehicular traffic is causing prob-lems for pedestrians, especially senior citizensand students. The pavements are encroachedupon and pedestrians are forced to walk on theroad, thereby risking their lives

Many riders on noisy motorbikes often drive

very fast without bothering about the safety ofpedestrians or those crossing the road. I oftensee police patrol vehicles passing but they takeno action against the speedsters. The road haspotholes and must be relaid soon.

I appeal to traffic officials to either controlthe speed of vehicles by installing speed break-ers or restore 1-way traffic on the road.

Chennai Corporation should get rid of en-croachments on the pavements. R.Viswanath, Ph: 97899 41136

No action taken to repair bridge in Corporation ParkSir, With reference to the letter ‘Damaged

bridge in Corporation Park poses danger’ pub-lished in Mambalam Times’ (Feb. 11, 2018issue), only a couple of badly damaged planksin the bridge in Corporation Park, 1st Avenuehave been removed.

The bridge, located near the fountain, contin-ues to pose a danger to users. They can trip and

fall and the protruding sharp nails can causegrievous injury. Further, the gaping holes fromwhere the planks were removed pose an addeddanger.

I appeal to Chennai Corporation to repair ordismantle the bridge immediately. Dr.Chidambara Kumarasamy, 53rd Street,Ashok Nagar. Ph: 94448 89994

Sir, Chennai Corporation has taken up reno-vation of 5 major parks in the neighbourhood.Similarly, it should also renovate the mostpopular Panagal Park in T. Nagar. Many young-sters and senior citizens use this park daily.

It needs to enhance greenery, repair the

walkers’ path and play equipment, and providemore seats for visitors.

I also suggest installation of a channel musicsystem for the benefit of the visitors. V. S.Narayanaswamy, 31, Motilal Street, T.Nagar

Sir, I am a resident of North Road, West CITNagar.

When the road was re-laid after the floods in2016, two speed breakers, one in front of VasaviWomen’s Hostel and the other near Patanjalishop were removed.

Now, with no mechanism to slow down ve-

hicles, speeding has become a norm, especiallyby bikers. They do not stop for pedestrianswaiting to cross the road.

They even weave through pedestrians cross-ing the road oblivious of the danger of hittingthem. I appeal to the authorities to installspeed breakers on the road.

This raises several questions. Whywere they digging the pits clandes-tinely at night when people were sleep-ing?

It was clear that they did not havepermission from Chennai Corporationor TNEB to carry out the work. If, inthe process of digging, sewage lines, metro water lines or EB power cablesare damaged, who will set them right?

The officials concerned should takeaction against service providers whodamage public properly while install-ing their infrastructure. I also suggestthe night patrol police keep a vigil onsuch unauthorised activities carriedout at night. D. Subbaram
