JUNE 2018

Last weekend we held the 17th Annual BYOC car show. We had several members missing. Some were on Rocky Mountain Race Week, some were out of town, some had family obligations etc. If you were not there you were missed! To all the members that helped prior to the show, during the show, or after the show THANK YOU!!! This event takes a fair amount of work to put on and we could not do it without everyone’s support. I consider this BYOC to only be a marginal success. The weather definitely cooperated. It wasn’t ex-tremely hot, a bit muggy, but not hot. We only had to worry about rain right at the end while we were packing up. The quality of cars at this years show was phenomenal! We had decent door prizes, and some great silent auction items. A special thanks goes out to Dave and Denise Jackson who were responsible for some of these drawing items. The 50/50 pot seemed to be a hit again this year. I believe all in attendance had a good time. At least that's what attendees were telling me. I have also received a couple of emails since the show telling me that we did a great job. So why do you ask was it only a marginal success?? The attendance! I believe our final car count was 47 cars!!! I believe if we have any chance at breaking even at all with this show it will be because of the 50/50 pot, and the silent auction items. This money made up for around 12 cars that were not there. Since the show I have been milling this over. 47 cars! That is not very good. On any given Friday night the Loveland cruise nights attract 75-100 cars very easily, and that is just one instance that I can think of. I know we passed out tons of flyers! Personally speaking I know I passed out several hundred at Realities Rides, Old Town Car Show in Fort Collins, Loveland Cruise Nights etc. We were also advertised in the Scoop, and we were using social media to advertise as well. So 47 cars just doesn’t sit very well with me. I know we were in competition with a couple of other events that day, but the car count still seems extremely low to me. I think in the coming year we need to make some decisions. Are we going to have a show? What do we want to accomplish with the show? Every year we come up with a plan to have this show. We plan on donating a portion of our proceeds to charity, but frankly our donation was minimal last year because we had to cover the bottom line. This year I doubt very seriously if we will have much to donate. I personally feel that our low car count numbers are due to the fact that our event is pay to enter event. The region has become saturated with car events, and I believe that many car people will opt to enter a free show before they will pay to enter. Especially pay to enter a show with only 47 cars whether the money is for charity or not! So what do we do?? As I mentioned earlier it takes a lot of work to put a car show on. If we continue to do the work, and just break even or worse every year what is the point?? If we aren’t able to make a donation to these charities maybe we need to re-think how we are conducting business. If we have to cover a portion of the cost every year on this show or barely breaking even our budget will not sustain it. My personal feeling is if we are coming up short on these shows I would rather at least see car count!!! So do we lower the entry fee? Do away with the entry fee all together and change the format of the show?? I challenge you all in the coming months to brainstorm ideas, and please share your ideas with the club, or at least the board members. BRING YOUR IDEAS TO A MEETING!! If we were to eliminate the entry fee for the BYOC we would need some other forms of revenue to help us out. Whether that is more drawing items, more sponsorship, us doing the concessions, selling t-shirts, eliminating trophies, or whatever the case may be. The club doesn’t need to get rich on this show, but we do need to cover our bottom line, and it would be nice to make a substantial donation every year to a selected charity. Each and every one of you are important members of the club, and each of you should have a say in this event. I would like to see this show continue in the future, and I would also like to see it be a success and not just a break even type of endeavor. I think for this to happen we may need to change things up a bit. Please help us out with any ideas you may have. Sooner than later please. Until next time….. Adios, Jared Warnock – NCGTOA President

The Northern Colorado GTO Association was founded in 1984 with several objectives in mind. The primary objective is to HAVE FUN and to promote interest in the Pontiac GTO. With that in mind, we try to schedule at least one club event every month. These events may be car shows, picnics, club member attendance at car shows, sanctioned drag races, participation in charity events, Drive-In movie nights (Yes – we still have a drive-in theater in Northern Colorado!) or any other event that involves people getting together to enjoy the fun of owning a true muscle car.

DUES: $30.00 yearly for the entire household

The Northern Colorado GTO Association is an affiliated chapter of the GTO Association of America, and we encourage all of our members to become members of the GTOAA. As an affiliated chapter of the GTOAA, your club is supplied with a $3,000,000 liability insurance policy. This covers both Officers and Members while conducting approved Chapter events. When you become a member of the GTOAA, you get a monthly publication of the Golden Quill award winning magazine, THE LEGEND. This is a 32 page monthly magazine that contains technical articles, stories about members GTO's, a large classified section and much more information. The GTOAA hosts an annual National Convention where GTO enthusiasts can come together and see the vast diversity within this great organization. From the Technical Seminars to the Concours Judging to the Activities and Popular Vote Car Show, there is no other single GTO event like a GTOAA National Convention. No other Pontiac organization or publication does more to bring together the issues, ideas, needs and wants of GTO enthusiasts worldwide. Technical experts for each of the production years are available through GTOAA to answer those difficult questions we all have encountered while working or restoring our GTO's. The annual dues to join the GTOAA are $35.00 and $5.00 for each additional family member. To become a member of the GTOAA online, you can visit www.gtoaa.org. To receive a membership by mail, write to GTOAA, PO Box 455, Timnath, CO 80547. You can contact Bill Vantuono at [email protected] for Local Chapter Information.
