Hello, fellow Wildcat parents! What a busy year we are having. I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege to work with your children. Here at MBHS, every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!

We are continuing to work on short-term goal setting. I am asking you to encourage your child to complete the second thirty-day chal-lenge. It is a proven fact that when a small activity is completed for thirty consecutive days, it becomes a habit. The faculty has asked your child to focus on small improvements and build upon those successes to reach eventual large goals. We need your help in assisting your child to be successful with this program. Remind him/her to complete the thirty-day challenge log to be entered in a drawing for free Wildcat wear provided courtesy of the Meadow Bridge High School LSIC.

I want to personally thank the Student Council for sponsoring a great anti-bullying campaign. I am so proud of the message conveyed….what is always popular, is not always right. Thank you for teaching us that everyone has a purpose that can only be filled by that person. That is why we are unique and must learn to accept others as they are.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you for taking the time to review your child’s Smarter Balanced data. Upon reviewing individual test scores, I noticed many of our students would have scored

at a higher achievement level, if they had answered an additional ten percent of the questions correctly. Ten percent is approximately three to four questions. Thank you for your continual support of the high expectations the

faculty and I are setting for your child. Ten percent is an easily attainable goal for our students!

-Go Wildcats!

On October 28, Meadow Bridge High’s social studies department took our junior and senior classes to visit the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, WV. Construction began on the asylum prior to the start of the Civil War and remained open until 1994. Though originally built to house 250 residents, it eventually held close to 2500 residents!

Meadow Bridge High students enjoyed a four-floor historic tour of the asylum where students took numerous pictures and had fun analyzing the mysterious orbs and shadowy figures seen in the background of their photographs. Was it simply camera flashes reflecting off of dust, or was it something more menacing lurking in the shadows?

Middle School Students Launching Rockets with STEM

Opportunity Courtesy of NASA On November 12th, Jess White, Education Specialist from NASA, visited Meadow Bridge High School and presented a STEM (Science, Technolo-gy, Engineering, and Mathematics) rocket building initiative to the 7th and 8th grade students. These students have been introduced to STEM classes this school year and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of two 3-D printers that will open up numerous possibilities for design experimentation. Mr. White finished his presentation by hosting a rocket-building contest and instructing students in the aerodynamic design and building of rockets.

‘Who’ visited MBHS on November 13? The “Wings of Wonder–West Virginia Birds of Prey” that is ‘who.’ Three Rivers Avian Center’s award winning environmental educational program introduced live non-releasable raptors to the students of MBHS. The group of raptor ambassadors attending included Rudy the Screech Owl, Hoolie the Great Horned Owl, Gimli the American Kestrel, Perry the Peregrine Falcon, Kendra the Red Shouldered Hawk, and Regis the Bald Eagle. All raptors, birds of prey with talons, have been rescued by the Avian Center, but, the seriousness of their injuries made it impossible for them to be released back into the wild. Now they travel the state educating people on conservation efforts to protect their species. Our Wildcats were extremely interested in this presentation and appreciated the visit from lunch… er, uh, we mean Three Rivers.

Bipolar First let me tell

you a story about a little boy

who wasn't so bad as a young lad he lost his dad

cared too much about the things he had.

What's the meaning waking up screaming?

I've got an upside-down smile and I

have to wipe my frown and dry my eyes.

Kids this is how it is when you get older

you wake up and you are bipolar.

Chris Watson, Grade 9 Summer Summer is a wonderful time I want all of it to be mine

The grass and trees are very fine Sometimes the sun will really shine

The breeze calmly blows the wind Chimes start to blow the clouds

Roll out and the sky turns blue

Ean Crane, Grade 9

Summer Summer, the time to laugh,

the time to smile, the time to enjoy. As one day falls, the next arises. I laugh, you laugh, I smile, you smile. It's like a mirror of activity. Rachel Markley, Grade 9

WV DEP Visits MBHS’ APES On October 23, Tom Aluise, Director of Youth Environmen-tal Protection Programs, with the WV Department of Environmental Protection, visited Meadow Bridge High School’s AP Environmental Science (APES) class to present an overview of the WV DEP and career options in the WV DEP. Students were surprised by the many ways the DEP is involved, not only with environmental issues, but also industry and youth education throughout the state. During the presentation Mr. Aluise challenged students to become involved in local efforts to benefit the environment and informed them that their efforts could be rewarded with college scholarships ranging from $100 to $10,000! In addition, Mr. Aluise has connected Mr. Hodges to specialists with the DEP who are already planning visits back to Mead-ow Bridge to work with the APES class on sampling and monitoring Meadow Creek, assessing the air quality in Meadow Bridge, and other areas! Our APES are excited to be working with the professionals at the WV DEP and Mr. Hodges appreciates the opportunities for his students that this ongoing partnership promises.

War War is cold and unforgiving.

War kills without remorse. Blood is shed on hard ground, Tears are cried over the fallen.

War is uncaring. Brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers die,

War is unfazed. Bullets and shouts are heard.

War does not feel. Yet, war lasts forever.

Micah Gilkerson, Grade 9

The Tree Of Life The tree he talks to me, I'm the apple of his eye,

He understands me, We share secrets with each other,

His appearance is rough, But his voice is soft as the breeze, He leans over and comforts me,

When skies are gray as smoke, So we may be different,

But our roots have grown together. Kaitlyn Alley, Grade 9

as an alien As an alien I live on mars I want to blow up your planet but then I shall not it is to beautiful its one of a kind its very warm its just beautiful with its water in place and its clouds in the right spots I will like to visit but humans are scared of me. So I will go in the cover of darkness Zain Maehr, Grade 9

Honor Roll Challenge Meadow Bridge’s class of 2021, the seventh grade class, won the “Honor Roll Challenge,” for the first nine-week term of this school year, with the Class of 2016 coming in second. The winning class was served pizza after school by Mrs. White for their achievement. MBHS LSIC will be spon-soring the challenge for the second nine-week term as well.

LSIC will be rewarding the class with the highest percentage of students on the honor roll with a coupon to use at the concessions of any home basketball game this season. Each member of the winning class can look forward to receiving this one-time use coupon. Study hard and encourage your classmates to do the same so that you can enjoy a treat as you cheer on the Wildcats at bas-ketball games this year.

True Blue Wildcats Once again students were asked to reflect and set goals for the upcoming school year. Over a hun-dred MBHS students took the time to reflect and write goals for themselves. These students will be receiving “True Blue Wildcats” t-shirts, provided by “THINK.” We encourage all Wildcats to make goals for themselves and work toward their own dreams.

Eleven students completed and returned their “30 Day Challenge” logs. These awesome students were Lillian Claypool, Chasity Ballenger, Kobe Rozell, Courtney Kincaid, Isabel Siegel, Amber Spade, Evelyn Patterson, Taylor Twohig, Autumn Stickler, Lukas Stephens, and Madison Harrah. Courtney Kincaid’s name was drawn for the tablet provided by “THINK.” A second “30-Day Chal-lenge” has already begun. Please encourage your son or daughter to participate and keep a log.
