IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

MUSIC VIDEO:For our music video we wanted it to follow the generic well known pop genre, already similar to Ariana Grande. This was also due to the nature of the song being a pop song and we wanted our Digipak to follow the pop genre style. In our planning we looked at some of our favourite current pop videos: Selena Gomez Kill Em With Kindness, Ariana Grande Into you and The Chainsmokers Closer. These three videos all had a theme in them, we wanted to create such as: in Selena Gomez's video we wanted the same direct audience address. For Ariana's video we wanted to achieve the same continuous colour scheme running through it through the use of filters. And finally for the Chainsmokers the use of cool locations and polaroid shots. As well as this we wanted to add some conventions that aren't usually used in music videos such as the fast impact cutting rate of the video and use of usually un-generic cutting that has miss linking shots towards the end of the video. An identifiable aspect of the video is the ‘star image’ Andrew Goodwin's Theory states the act should dominate the video which in ours it does as she is the only person to feature. It was easy to achieve this with the video being a pop music video and close ups and central shots are a key theme in music videos. As for costume we decided to follow the conventions of a pop video by dressing her in a modern day style that was casual yet still matched the theme of our video and the celeb style.

ALBUM MAGAZINE ADVERT:A generic theme that runs within album magazine adverts is to make the artist the main central feature which is exactly what we did on our advert. When we studies a range of other adverts however the majority of them had them facing directly forward which is something we wanted to change in our magazine advert. The colour scheme was also something we look a long while to plan ass we were undecided on a background design as to whether have the sunset or keep it the white. We opted for the white to yet again let our artist stand out and let her be the centre attention. Font and text was another key aspects as we didn't want the page to be full of blocked font we wanted it simple and straight to the point. Therefore we used simple style fonts all in black to match the theme and little words as possible. We also wanted to shout out our music video song by adding the tag line ‘thinking bout you.’ we made sure the title and the artist name was bold along the top to make sure it stood out and looked really effective, this is a common convention in magazines adverts. The cross media convergence of the iTunes and republic records logos as this is involving two other aspects of the music industry. Finally the costume for the advert was important to follow the conventions for a pop advert. We chose the fur as it was really bold and made the artist stand out fully and effectively drawing your attention in more. Also the use of the signature Ariana cat ears that we used in all of our products to add continuity and link all our products together.

THE DIGIPAK The digipak was something that took a lot of planning and thought as we wanted to create something that followed conventions of a digipak yet matched our music video visually. Our front cover follows the conventions of many pop albums, with the use of the artist central to the frame and nothing else surrounding them to make them the key focus. However we went against some of the generic pop album covers by not using direct audience address from the artist, however some artists such as Lady Gaga inspired us to use the side profile image. For the back of the case we decided on the sunset background with the black thin font matching the artists name under the album title. We added the generic conventions of the barcode, copyright and record label logo. The DVD section of the case was also something we were unsure of, but the end product we were happy with. We chose a different angle of the artist with her looking to the left, revealing more of her face than the cover but still not the whole of her face. The font yet again matching the cover as it is a cover of the DVD and wanted it to match the cover nicely.

The cd panel was an are we wanted to keep plain and simple to make the CD fit in with the design. As the DVD has a lot of font scattered around as does the back of the case and the front. We didn’t want to put font onto the CD itself to create some difference within the DIGIPAK. We decided to use a shot of the artist from behind as we wanted to explore many different alums and this angle shot isn’t a convention of pop albums to show the back of the artist, so we chose to go against the stereo type and add a different angle shot.
