General Codes for the GenreColour Scheme

My original research showed that there was a definitive colour scheme Music Magazines consisting of Red, Black and White (with some grey shades).

This link is so strong that when you see these colours together on a cover, you automatically think Music Magazine.

General Codes for the GenrePhotography

My original research showed that there was a particular photography style for Music Magazines.

The cover image is either sexy or glamorous. The artist is often bare-chested but if dressed usually wears black or white.

The photo is usually fairly close-up or head and shoulders.

General Codes for the GenrePage Numbers

My original research showed that while there was a not a particular page number style for Music Magazines, they find ways to make the page numbers more interesting in various ways such as using oversize numbers, simulating a counter or using contrast colours.

General Codes for the GenreWriting Style

My original research showed that there was an informal, chatty writing style for Music Magazines as these examples from NME and Kerrang! show.

How I applied the General Codes for the Genre to my magazine

While I stuck with the code by having an informal, chatty writing style for Airwaves, I have challenged the code in most other areas.

I have, probably bravely, defied the red, white and black colour scheme because I feel it is very masculine and would not appeal to my female audience. I have gone for candy colours and a style which is similar to Cosmopolitan magazine.

I have applied the code to my photography style by featuring a sexy cover image with a head and shoulder shot of the artist bare-chested.

I have also used oversize numbers to make the page numbering more interesting.
