Welcome Dear IN2IT partners,
This newsletter includes a review of the first two successful and productive
workshops. We had in WP3 to develop four innovative virtual-international
courses: (i) English for Internationalization Purposes, (ii) Embracing Diversity,
(iii) Essential Skills, and (iv) Global entrepreneurship. In addition, you will find
reference to presentations of the new developed technological platform that
will support the delivery of those courses. The next meeting will be held in
Warsaw on March.
On WP4 we had the first meeting of IN2IT communities of practice to identify
areas for collaboration on international relations and research. Preliminary
actions were initiated and additional are expected to be developed.
From a managerial and administrative perspective, you will find an update on
the monitoring visit that was held by the National Erasmus Office, and
information on the next steps regarding the intermediate report.

Summary: Monitoring Visit

IN2IT monitoring visit was held a little after the end of the first year of the project, with the
participation of the Programme Manager Ms. Róisín Mc Cabe from the Education, Audiovisual
and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), Ms. Marissa Gross-Yarm, Director of
the National Erasmus Plus Office (NEO), Prof. Tamar Ariav, the President of
Beit Berl College, and IN2IT partner colleges' Vice Presidents and the
institutional Coordinators.
The NEO received a folder with all the IN2IT documents, including meeting
agenda, list of participants, copy of the partnership agreements, organigram
of the project organization, minutes of the last coordination meeting, copy of
the most relevant pages of the IN2IT website, Facebook, Forum, and additional dissemination
materials (IN2IT notebook, booklet, calendar, newsletters), copy of the quality policy document,
quality assurance and evaluation reports produced so far, and copies of the products/output
produced so far (internationalization strategic plans, internationalization
maturity 1st assessment results, virtual-international courses outlines, etc.).
Prof. Tamar Ariav opened the meeting with a welcome message to the
attendees, emphasizing the importance of internationalization in the college. The Erasmus Plus
Office representatives briefly introduced the program and explained the purpose of the
monitoring visit - to learn about the activities realized and products developed so far, as well as
to observe if the project has encountered any problems in operational and/or financial
implementation that should be discussed and solved.
First, each one of the colleges representatives briefly presented the college and its activities in
internationalization.

Then, the IN2IT project Manager, Dr. Vered Holzmann, reviewed the project and its progress
from administrative and academic perspectives. Each one of the project work packages was
considered, regarding implementation of the planned tasks and achievement of deliverables.
Special attention was given to activities of quality assurance, dissemination,
exploitation and sustainability, and project management.
The following session included a discussion, where each one of the partners
summarized the tasks that were implemented in the college and talked about the impact of IN2IT
on the stakeholders in the college, including top management, academic and administrative
staff, and students. A short video on Beit Berl College involvement in IN2IT was presented by
Dr. Osnat Dagan. We also discussed challenges such as budget related issues and
sustainability of the project deliverables.
The overall summary of the project was very favorable. The NEO representatives were
impressed by the level of involvement of all partners, the activities performed and the products
developed so far, the impact of the project on the institutions, as well as the clear plan for the
following months until the end of the project. They indicated that IN2IT offers a new form of
internationalization, based on virtual-international courses, that hopefully will be successful and
enable replication in additional institutions and fields of studies.
The NEO will issue an evaluation report that will be distributed to all partners.

Summary: WP3-1st workshop on development
of virtual-international curriculum

IN2IT partners participated in the first workshop of WP3: development and delivery of
international online curriculum in Al Qasemi Academic College of Education & Tel Aviv Yaffo
Academic College, Israel.
Prof. Bashar Saed, President of Qasemi Academic College of Education,
welcomed the participants and presented the various departments in the
college. Dr. Wisam Magdly, Head of Teaching Development and Evaluation,
reviewed the topics of research conducted in the college, the international
conference on the educational identity of teachers and educators in a changing socio-political
reality, and explained the process that the college is going through to be a green
institution.
Each one of the participants received a notebook of IN2IT and a calendar with all
the three religions holidays and the IN2IT events for the coming year.
Dr. Fiona Hunter, from UCSC, the leader of WP3, presented the overall plan for this activity that
starts with three workshops – in QSM, UCSC, and WUT, continues with a
pilot during the second half of the second year of the project, and finalizes
with delivery of virtual international courses during the 2017-2018 academic
year. In an introduction lecture, Prof. Susanna Sancassani, Managing Director of METID at the
Politecnico di Milano, talked about “How MOOC can help us in reading the
future in higher education”. She reviewed a variety of tools to be used in
MOOC and referred to it as an additional opportunity to target massive
audience, thanks to its "open" nature that makes it accessible to all. However, as Susanna
stressed, this is only an option and not a must. The higher education of the future has to be able
to scale up dramatically, to include knowledge actors, to annually integrate ICT and support the
evolution of methodologies.

Next, Ms. Valeria Baudo, from METID, presented the case of MOOC at PoliMi (Politecnico di
Milano). PoliMi open knowledge was presented in numbers: 58 teachers,
18 MOOCS online, 32,770 POK subscribers, and 49,675 enrolled in
MOOCS. PoliMi strategy for MOOC is as a utility to bridge the gap. It is
composed of MOOCs for All and MOOCs for students. The catalog of MOOCs includes different
categories, such as from high school to university, from bachelor to master, from university to
job, for teachers, for citizens, and for researchers.
The following speaker, Dr. Osnat Dagan, from Beit Berl College, talked about face-to-face and
online curriculum. She asked the participants to identify the most important
active learning characteristics by scanning a QRCode to define active
learning. Then, she presented a few examples, including face-to-face
design process where the students understand that design process is an iterative and differ from
each person and problem by experience, and an online course on cyber bulling. Osnat
summarized with the conclusion that each assignment requires learning content and technology
tool (Knowledge), developing curriculum by integrating pedagogy and technology (implement
and create), and analyzing the added value of the technology, where the last assignment is a
personal reflection on what the students learnt during the course (evaluation).
After a preliminary session where the teams develop the four IN2IT courses, we went for a visit
in
the city of Baqa Al-Gharbiyye and in the college. We visited Al-Qasemi College for Science and
Engineering, as well as the radio station, cinema and television
centers of Al Qasemi Academic
College.

The second and third days of the meeting were held in Tel Aviv Yaffo Academic College.
Prof. Israel Borovich, the Dean of Business and Economics School, welcomed the attendees
and introduced them to the special characteristic of the college, located at
the heart of Jaffa, a mixed city of Jewish and Arab (Muslim and Christian)
residents, which lags behind Tel-Aviv in every socio-economic criterion.
The opening lecture was given by Dr. Merav Asaf, from Kaye Academic College of Education.
She talked about insights of an ICT coordinator with regard to online
curriculum. She explained how to design an effective online course, by
maintaining commitment, raising interest and facilitating interaction. Merav
offered a variety of individual and collaborative activities that can be applied in an online course,
and elaborated on available assessment procedures and tools.
Ms. Amanda Baker, from Brunel University, shared with us the Essential Skills course
development framework, which is composed on content
(elements and structure for curriculum content), delivery
(platforms and approaches to teaching and learning on the
courses, including answers to the questions: how, when and where will delivery
take place), and context (students and staff, locations and wider macro-environmental factors).
Based on those guidelines, the teams continue their work on the courses' development. The
remaining time of the workshop was dedicated to intensive teamwork, which was concluded at
the end of the third day with a clear understanding of the structure and an initial plan for the pilot
for each one of the courses.

We finalized the meeting with a presentation by Dr. Hanan Maoz, from Sapir Academic College,
who reviewed the current status of WP6: Innovative Technological Platform, focusing on the
requirements and need ananlysis survey reults. The process of designing the survey and
collecting the data was explained and the main findings were presented. Based on that study,
Sapir team recommended to adopt MOODLE platform for IN2IT project.
In the closing session, moderated by Dr. Fiona Hunter, from the Universita Cattolica, and Dr.
Vered Holzmann, from ORT Braude College, we summarized the valuable accomplishments by
each team and discussed the next steps to be taken towards the following meeting in Milan.
On behalf of all IN2IT partners I wish to thank the teams at
Al Qasemi College and in Tel Aviv Yaffo College for their
support in organizing the event.

A joint meeting for the second workshop of WP3: Development and delivery of international
online curriculum and the first meeting of WP4: Development and delivery of international
Communities of Practice (CoP) for knowledge sharing was held on 6-8 February 2017 in Milan,
Italy.
The meeting of WP3 team was aimed to continue the development of online teaching and
learning curriculum for virtual-international courses on: (1) English for Internationalization
Purposes, (2) Essential Skills, (3) Embracing Diversity, (4) Global Entrepreneurship. The
meeting of WP4 team was aimed to promote collaboration among IN2IT partners and to initiate
the establishment of a network of professionals from the international relations offices and
research units in the partner institutions. The partners presented the main interests for
collaboration in order to find opportunities for future cooperation among all the consortium –
Israeli and Europeans. In the field of international relations, it includes initiatives for study
abroad, faculty and students exchange, joint agreements, joint Erasmus Plus proposals, etc. In
the field of research, it includes joint research by faculty members, joint publications,
international conferences, applications for Horizon 2020, etc.
The first day of the meeting was held in the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
Prof. Arie Maharshak, President of ORT Braude College, and Prof. Amanda Murphy, Director of
the Centre for Higher Education Internationalization, welcomed the attendees.
The opening session included a brief presentation of the project, WP3 and WP4 by Dr. Vered
Holzmann, to understand the overall framework of the project and the specific goals of those
WPs. Dr. Fiona Hunter, from UCSC, the leader of WP3 presented the current status of
development and the plan for the workshop. Ms. Nicoletta Trentinaglia and Ms. Valeria Baudo,
from PoliMi, the leader of WP4, presented the idea of CoP to foster collaboration among the
IN2IT partners.

After the opening session, the teams were working in parallel.
The team for development and delivery of international online curriculum, was introduced to the
IN2IT Technological Platform, based on Moodle, which was
developed by WP6 leader, Sapir Academic College. The team from
Sapir, Prof. Avi Besser, Dr. Hanan Maoz, Ms. Amit Marantz-Gal, Ms.
Aya Elovits, and Mr. Shay Pinsker, presented the Beta release of
the technological platform. They explained the rational of the
platform design, presented its functionality from teachers and
students' perspectives, and demonstrated how to use the platform effectively.
Following a teamwork session of the four teams of online curriculum
development, the participants visited the iLab at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Ms. Flavia
Scott and Ms. Chiara Rizzi presented the education technologies at
the Universita Cattolica, including history of the
iLab since its foundation in 2009 and the current
adoption and use of e-learning platform, based on
Blackboard. With more than 1500 courses available on Blackboard,
3 MOOCs, and 9 blended Master degrees, in the academic year of 2014-2015, the iLab supports
UCSC teachers and students. In addition, several tools and cases were
presented as well as the blended degree model and the program of the
Didatec Corner, which is aimed to train teachers in the use of educational
technologies.
During the second day of the meeting, in the Politecnico di Milano, the team visited METID
recording studio in order to understand the process and requirements for
producing quality recorded lessons.

The team for development and delivery of international CoPs for knowledge
sharing, was introduced to the IN2IT online environment for CoPs, developed
by METID at the Politecnico di Milano. Ms. Nicoletta Trentinaglia and Ms.
Valeria Baudo, from PoliMi, the leader of WP4, presented the framework of
WP4 and its specific objectives: (1) to facilitate online discussion among WP3
international teams for developing online curriculum; (2) to stimulate sharing
of experiences and needs in internationalization for supporting the creation of new synergies;
and (3) to foster international collaboration among Higher Education Institutions for developing
Joint research project ideas. In order to facilitate the cooperation, each partner institution should
assign a responsible person in the institution for the coordination of the activities in WP4.
In the following sessions, each one of the partner institution, presented the institution, the main
activities of the international relations office, and the main activities of the research unit.
Prof. Shira Huntman, from Tel Hai College, located in the Upper Galilee in Israel, talked about
the diverse student life and pluralistic atmosphere, the growing reputation for
academic excellence that attracts students from across the country to join in
building a unique community of learning, and the attention of scholars and
researchers around the world. The college is interested in research in the fields of food
technologies, nutrition, social work, education, economics, and animal and environmental
sciences.
Dr. Marek Polak, from Warsaw University of Technology, the best technical university in Poland,
described the activities of the IRO, with student exchange programs, mainly
from India and Ukraine, and active collaboration with 120 academic
institutions worldwide. The university carries out about 700 researches,
including 260 research grants. Research priorities is given to new material technologies and
functional materials, chemistry and chemical technology, electronics and computer science,
aviation and aerospace, biomedical engineering, photonics, and renewable energy sources.

Dr. Nazeh Natur, from Al Qasemi Academic College of Education, an Arab college, located in
Baqa Al-Gharbiyye, presented the international activity in general and focused
on research. The college will conduct two research conferences in April 2017,
in which the partners are welcome to participate. The College has several
international collaborations including institutions from Austria, Italy, Ukraine, and Turkey. The
faculty members are mainly interested in researching the topics of English studies and English
literature, as well as Islamic studies.
Ms. Minke Jakobi, from Ludwigsburg University of Education, with more than 5000 students and
three faculties, described the university and the academic programs. The IRO
is responsible for strategic partnerships, international projects in teaching and
research, and students and staff exchange. The university is involved in
several Erasmus projects on teaching diversity and promoting civic engagement, and
collaborates with institutions from USA, Israel and Egypt. Regarding research, the university is
interested in educational research, and focus on learning, teaching and education in all age-
groups.
Ms. Anat Benson, from Beit Berl College, an academic institution with an applied-social
orientation for the training and development of professionals in the fields of
education, arts and the public service, described the college and its activities with
the Jewish and Arab communities. The IRO develops collaboration by exchange
programs, international conferences, international and European projects, and
partnership agreements with academic institutions. Specific interests include digital humanities,
social sciences, art, and education.
Prof. Israel (Izzy) Borovich, from Tel Aviv Yaffo Academic College, a teaching-oriented
institution, and a generator of social action in service of its immediate
community - in Jaffa (Yafo) and southern Tel-Aviv, presented the college. The
college is involved in international entrepreneurship programs and faculty
members are interested in cooperation in the fields of management and economics, high tech,
health studies and healthcare, as well as humanities and social sciences.

Ms. Francesca Casoni, from Université de Montpellier, which is known as a research university
where scientific activities are performed by 9 departments of scientific themes,
talked about the priority of internationalization in the university. The university is
involved in several Erasmus projects and cooperates with many academic
institutions, including partnerships with HEIs in the Mediterranean. Partnerships
of UM include almost 600 partners in Europe. The university has about 300 incoming students
from Europe and about 600 outgoing student to European countries.
Prof. Avi Besser, from Sapir Academic College, presented the college, which is the largest public
college in Israel, focused on social sciences, business and law, technology
management, and humanities. Research in Sapir is led by departments and
schools as islands of excellence. The main interests of Sapir are: Bologna
process capacity, Erasmus Plus capacity, mobility practices, summer schools, Horizon 2020
initiatives, and research with the high tech industry.
Ms. Adele Roberts-Hunt, from Kingston University London, a public research university with five
faculties, which prides itself on the diversity of its research culture and student
body, presented the excellent relationships with regional and national
institutions and the student entrepreneurship programme. Research is
clustered around Centres of Excellence in engineering, environment and society research, visual
and material culture research, health and social care, research into modern European
philosophy, modern interiors research, small business research centre, digital information
research, and the interdisciplinary hub for the study of health and age-related conditions.
Ms. Inna Smirnov, from Kaye Academic College of Education, located in the south of Israel,
serving both the Jewish and Bedouin populations, said that they are interested
in collaboration with other institutions in Israel and abroad. Broadly, the areas
of expertise and interest include: teacher identity in various teaching
situations, innovative methods and pedagogy (e.g. Eutagogy), using arts, music and drama for
teaching purposes, diversity, heterogeneity, and multiculturalism, border literacy and pedagogy,
K-12 education, special education, and Phys. Ed. For excluded communities.

Mr. Shmuel Gazit and Prof. Sammar Marei, from ORT Braude College, presented the
international and research activities. The college supports students and staff
exchange with partner institutions from USA, Europe and Asia, and offers a
special study abroad program. ORT Braude is involved in Erasmus Plus project
and has an experience in leading successful international and European projects.
Research in ORT Braude is related to technology and engineering in a variety
of fields. Faculty members participate in COST, Horizon2020, and bi-national
funded research projects.
At the end of the first day, WP4 team visited the research authority of Università Cattolica del
Sacro Cuore. Ms. Alessandra Amato presented the research administration
in UCSC. She talked about the challenges of supporting 10 main areas of
research in 12 faculties located in 4 different campuses. The research unit is
responsible for policies and the administrative support including management of research funds
at the pre-award and post-award stages. The overall investment in research is 30M Euro each
year, composed of own funds, national grants, international grants, and applied research with
external entities.
On the second day of the meeting, the attendees visited the Politecnico di Milano. Ms. Susanna
Sancassani, Managing Director of METID, presented the university and the role
of METID (Metodi E Tecnologie Innovative per la Didattica - Innovative Methods
and Technologies for Learning) which operates since 1996 to foster the commitment of
Politecnico to teaching and learning innovation. METID is devoted to design, develop, and
deliver e-learning and e-collaboration services and takes part in several research and training
projects collaborating with the most qualified European universities.
Ms. Dora Longoni, Head of International Projects Service in PoliMi, presented the array of
international activities, including partnership agreements with academic institutions
around the world, joint projects, staff and students exchange, and Master degree
programs delivered in English.

Mr. Gianluca Pappalardo, from PoliMi Research Office, reviewed the research @ Politecnico di
Milano. As the leading university in Italy for architecture, design and engineering,
PoliMi operates in 12 departments and 65 research areas. However, the key to
success is multidisciplinary research, supported by joint research centers at PoliMi and with
companies.
The participants in WP4 summarized the topics of interest to identify opportunities for
collaboration. Those initiatives include international conference on education, joint project on
advanced mathematics teaching, cooperation in Arabic and Islamic studies, research on
blended teaching and learning, collaboration on diversity studies, and mobilities. The teams will
continue to develop the ideas through online communication until the next WP4 meeting.
At the end of that day, the attendees were invited to visit two of PoliMi Labs, the building
materials analysis & diagnostics lab and the micro & nanostructured materials lab. It
was an interesting and educating guided tour, in which we learned how
the university works with and for the industry in different fields.
The meeting in Milan was very fruitful. WP3 team made a big progress towards the development
of the courses in general and the forthcoming pilot in particular. WP4 team had the opportunity
to create a professional network that will be utilized for future partnerships.
On behalf of all the participants, I am gratefully thanking the teams at
Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Politecnico di Milano for
professional organization and very warm hospitality.

Summary: WP9-1st meeting on exploitation and
sustainability

The first meeting of IN2IT team to discuss challenges and alternative solutions for effective
exploitation and sustainability, was held in Kaye Academic College of Education, the leader of
WP9, on 15 February 2017.
Prof. Lea Kozminsky, President of Kaye Academic College of Education, welcomed the
participants. She emphasized the importance of long term sustainability on both the institutional
and the IN2IT consortium levels. The utilization of the project deliverables, after the project will
end, is the interest of all project partners, and each one of us should make an effort to create
the appropriate environment for that, with the support of technology and the involvement of
faculty and students.
The opening session by Dr. Vered Holzmann, included a review of WP9 tasks that should be
carried out until the end of the project in order to support sustainability of the project's results
within the partner colleges after the project lifetime, to continue implementation of project IN2IT
practices, competencies, tools and techniques within the partner institutions after the project will
end, and to expand IN2IT results among additional HEIs.
Ms. Liron Ohayon-Shokty presented the agenda for the meeting, which was based on
introductory presentations and discussions on the micro and macro levels. She raised a few
questions for discussion related to the way we can continue with the implementation of each
one of the courses that will be developed and the way we can support all the courses as one
coherent system.
Dr. Doron Narkiss mentioned some of the challenges that emerged during the development of
the English for Internationalization Purposes course, though they are relevant for all the other
course as well. Some of those questions are if and how the developers of the course will be
compensated, who will be in charge on updating the content, will the courses remain in the
modular structure, what is needed in order to make the courses accredited, and how the

academic calendar of Israeli and European institutions will be coordinated for the purpose of
delivering a course.
Dr. Hanan Maoz, from Sapir Academic College, responsible for the development of the IN2IT
technological platform, presented a few challenges and issues in this context. The Learning
Management System (LMS) is not inherently connected to the other existing platforms in the
institutions and in order to ensure long term sustained courses they probably
should be accredited by institutional committees. The team at Sapir developed
the platform with the aim to share information and knowledge, thus they
encourage the users to use the "lecturer sandbox" and the "partners needs
forum". Hanan updated that an external professional committee was established to provide
pedagogical support to the team.
Dr. Merav Asaf, from Kaye Academic College of Education, presented the subject of
sustainability within forces of disruption. She explained what a disruptive
innovation is and provided a few examples such as the personal camera,
newspapers, and taxis. Then, she raised the provoking question, whether
education in general and higher education in particular are endangered.
In an additional presentation, Dr. Merav Asaf, engaged the participants
in a discussion on three cycles of exploitation and sustainability
challenges: (1) the infrastructures; (2) the micromanagement; and (3) the macro management,
with a series of questions on what should be sustained? how? and by whom?
During the discussion session, several ideas were examined. The main points of discussion and
agreement included the following.
Sustainability will be achieved through the involvement of ALL IN2IT partners – Israeli
and European institutions.
Top management support is a critical success factor.
Copyright and intellectual property rights should be considered.
The platform should be accessible and available for management by all partners.

The partner institutions and the faculty members should have an ownership and
commitment to continue the development.
The courses should be available for individual utilization of the partner institutions to
enable exploitation and collaboration with non-IN2IT partners.
IN2IT courses are unique thanks to the international aspect, thus this aspect should be
maintained and emphasized.
Ongoing financing for the platform maintenance and the courses' content development
should be taken into consideration.
Research on the development and implementation of the virtual-international IN2IT
courses should be encouraged.
The meeting was summarized with the insight that there are two parallel paths of sustainability
that we wish to take:
(1) Sustainability of content will be achieved by continuing the development and delivery of the
courses in the partner institutions and by enabling the IN2IT partners to create partnerships
with external HEIs that are not part of the IN2IT project, to deliver those courses and
additional new courses.
(2) Sustainability of concept will be achieved by summarizing the acquired knowledge and
insights on how to develop virtual-international course and suggesting a framework and/or
guidelines that will be available for academics interested in the development of similar type
of courses and programs.
The discussions on exploitation and sustainability will continue in parallel to the other activities
that will be performed until the end of the project. The contribution of all partners on this important
subject will be much appreciated.

Development of virtual -international curriculum
13-15 March 2017, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland
IN2IT third workshop of WP3: Development and delivery of international
online curriculum will be held on 13-15 March 2017 in Warsaw University
of Technology, Poland.
Registration is open until 1 march 2017.
The workshop main goals are to :
1) Pilot the pilot. Each one of the teams will have 90 minutes to
demonstrate the pilot of the course to the IN2IT colleagues, based on
their active participation. The pilot of the pilot will be used to test the pilot
and it will include feedback by peers in order to make the required
improvements .
2) Finalize the development of the virtual-international courses on: (i)
English for Internationalization Purposes, (ii) Essential Skills, (iii)
Embracing Diversity, (iv) Global Entrepreneurship, so that all four
courses will be ready for delivery on the third year of the project.

Update: IN2IT Intermediate Report
The project intermediate progress report is composed of a narrative part (word document) and
a financial part (excel file). It is a summary report that refers the overall project. Hence, the draft
will be prepared by the coordinator and sent to the partners for review and comments. However,
all partners must submit all financial reports (staff costs, travel costs
& costs of stay, equipment, subcontracting) by 15 March, 2017.
The intermediate progress report, including the narrative part and the
financial part, must be completed and submitted by the coordinator
to the Agency no later than 15 April 2017.
Update: IN2IT Meetings Plan
On 20 March 2017 the project will be presented to the members of VARAM – the Board of Public
Academic Colleges in Israel.
The project meetings plan is available on the project website.
As was announced in the last meeting, the IN2IT international conference that was planned for
May 2017, will be held in the University of Montpellier, in joint with the DigiworldWeek, on 14-16
November 2017.
Please note that the next consortium meeting will be held in Tel Yaffo Academic College, Israel,
on 5-7 September 2017.
