The IEEE Student Branch has been opened under Advanced Studies Research Center (ASRC) of the

Poornima University vide welcome letter dated 22 June 2016 having Student Branch

code STB1014 and School Code is 60108724. The basic objective of opening this branch under

ASRC has been to further open different Society Chapters in various departments of the University

thereby involving all Bachelor, Master and Doctoral students and faculty in IEEE activities and

awareness through conduction of Technical Seminars, Workshops, Conferences and other technical

& cultural activities leading to promotion of IEEE and advancement of technology in right

perspective. At present there are more than 90 IEEE Student Members and more than 15

Professional members under the branch.

The function began with a welcome speech by the Dean (R & D), Dr. Mahesh Bundele , Professor &

head Dept of ASRC, PU. He welcomed - Dr. Ashutosh Dutta, Director of Technology at AT&T Labs,

CSO, Middletown, New Jersey, Dr. Kumkum Garg, Pro-President, Manipal University, Dr. Rajesh

Kumar, Associate Professor MNIT, Dr. Soumitra Debnath, Associate Professor, LNMIIT, Dr. Manoj

Gupta, Dean (SET & SOM) and Provost, Poornima University, IEEE Student Branch Executives of

5G communication Technology are the current thrust areas of Research that will provide a new

objective behind organizing a Joint activity was to extend the benefit of the event to maximum possible

members of IEEE Student branches at Jaipur. He expressed his special thanks to Dr. Sandeep Sancheti,

President, Manipal University, Prof. Udaykumar Yaragatti, Director MNIT, and Dr. Sadanand Gokhale,

Soumitra Debnath for accepting the proposal to organize this event as a Joint Technical Event. Lastly,

Dr. Arun Dev Dhar Dwivedi, Professor, Branch Counselor, IEEEE student Branch did welcome of to

all the dignitaries on the dais, guests & participants of the function. He briefly introduced the IEEE

Student Branch Poornima University that a petition has been filed in the month of March 2016 and it

has been forwarded by Dr Rajesh Ingle, IEEE region 10 students activity chair, Mr. Ramakrishna

Kappagantu, IEEE Region 10 director and finally approved by IEEE head quarter during the last week

of June 2016. He also told that first meeting of the IEEE student branch was held on 8th July 2016. In

this meeting interim executive body of the IEEE student branch has been constituted. He informed that

currently more than 90 members are there in the IEEE students Branch Poornima University which

includes bachelors, masters, doctoral students and faculty members. He briefed about the activities

organized under the banner of IEEE Student Branch of University. Lastly he expressed his best wishes

for success of the seminar.

Dr. Manoj Gupta

The Provost Dr. Manoj Gupta congratulated to Prof. Dr. Mahesh Bundele & his team for their successful

attempt to establish an IEEE Student Branch at the university and wished them the best for the further events.

He encouraged the chapter to conduct activities, workshops and contests that would reach out to the

students and bring out the best in them. His inspirational and thoughtful words were greeted by loud

applauses by the assembled crowd.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Professor, MNIT, Jaipur was invited to address the gathering. He congratulated

the student branch for their initiative to conduct joint technical seminar. He then elaborated about

how IEEE Robotics & Automation Society is changing the face of Automation field worldwide and

how it can benefit through being a part of this group of technology leaders. He also stated

importance of the this field that it involves research from almost all the disciplines of engineering.

Dr. Kumkum Garg

Dr. Kumkum Garg, Pro-President, Manipal University, Jaipur talked about Software-Defined

Networking and Internet-of-Things. She told that with recent advancements in sensing,

communication and big-data technologies, new devices are being deployed as IoT networks that

have the potential to be deployed broadly and at extremely large scale. However, IoT poses many

challenges such as scale and complexity of data and device managements. She also discussed that

Software-defined networking (SDN) and network orchestration will meet IoT in the near future to

address those challenges.

Dr. Ashutosh Dutta, Director AT&T, New Jersey delivered the inaugural address. He was extremely

happy to have been called upon to inaugurate the IEEE RAS Chapter of Poornima University. Dr.

Dutta briefed about the significance and achievements of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society

and its relevance to the student community in the modern times. He discussed that Software Defined

Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are the key pillars of future

networks, including 5G. He also discussed the significance of WIE (Women in Engineering) affinity

group. He wished Robotics & Automation Society Poornima University the very best in all its

endeavors.

The inaugural ceremony came to an end with Vote of Thanks by Mr. Aditya Sharma, Chair IEEE

RAS Chapter of Poornima University, Jaipur. He thanked the dignitaries for sparing their precious

time and gracing the occasion by their benign presence. He also thanked the students, HODs and

faculty members who left no stone unturned to make the Inaugural Program a grand success.

Talk Delivered:

Dr. Ashutosh Dutta had started the session with introduction to Software Defined Network and

Network Function Virtualization (NFV). He also addressed various security challenges and

opportunities introduced by network virtualization, network slicing, and software defined

networking. He briefed about virtualized Evolved Packet Core (EPC), virtualized IP Multimedia

Services (IMS), Virtualized Residential Gateway, and Virtualized Next Generation Firewalls. He

also highlighted some of the ongoing activities within the standards communities and illustrated a

few deployment use case scenarios. He ended the talk with an overview of recent IEEE 5G Initiative

(5g.ieee.org) and how it is going to help with the evolution of 5G eco system. Dr. Ashutosh Dutta

then answered many questions put up by the audience. He also asked the students about their

projects and offered new ideas.

The whole audience was impressed with the talk by Dr. Ashutosh Dutta

Student Seminar Series

MUJ’s IEEE Student Branch started the Student Seminar Series (SSS) in the year 2014. The SSS

initiative is an open platform where any student of the university can easily share their knowledge

with their peers. It allows students to conduct seminars, workshops, and demonstrations,

emphasizing an informal and interactive tone. Its goal is to propagate a culture of technical

discussion, exchange, and collaboration at MUJ.

With increasing discussions on smart cities, the students were made to bring their

ideas forth on how they imagine their SMART CITY.

Just A Minute was a fun event organized to test spontaneity of thought and command over English

Seminar was so deep. Basic knowledge not given Should be relevant to

all participants. (B.Tech ME 1st year, PU)

Only interested should be called, non-interested candidates creates an

uncontrollable scenario

Some more workshop on this topic mainly emphasis on practical

approach

Please don't waste paper. Useless printout will not improve talk quality.

The talk must cover topic in sufficient details, otherwise it is just waste

of time. Don't mix too many topics.

In case of highly reputed guest, it is a type of insult when audience starts

leaving room midway. Please avoid it in future.

"Save Paper Save Tree Save Life." Should have more thrust towards

security in SDN and How SDN helps to eleveate those problems like

DPI. It should be also deep learing resources.

Closing Remarks by ASRC Head, PU

Dr. Mahesh Bundele

At the end of the function, vote of thanks was given by Dr. Mahesh Bundele, Dean(R & D),

Poornima University. He briefly explained the benefits of IEEE and requested all the Students of

MNIT, MU, LNMIIT and PU to motivate others to become the member of IEEE. He elaborated the

purpose of organizing a joint event and requested all to come together for such activities. He thanked

Dr. Ashutosh Dutta , Director AT & T, New jersey for giving the technical seminar on current thrust

areas of research i.e. Software Defined Networking & Network Function Virtualization. He also

thanked Student branch Chair of MNIT, MU & LNMIIT to make this Joint technical seminar

successful. Lastly, he expressed his sincere thanks to all organizing committee members who have

actively played their role in planning and organizing this event.
