Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

New Nativity Statues. To help celebrate our Parish Feast, the Liturgy Committee last year decided to get ad-ditional figures for the Nativity scene to be placed in our church each Christmas. If anyone would like to memori-alize any of the new Nativity statues please contact the rectory. A plaque hangs each Christmas Season near the Nativity with the listing of the individ-uals to remember in prayer. Available for Memorializing: Shepherds, ox, ass and lambs. Please check with Fr. O’Connor for more information.

The Christ of the Carols. This Tuesday, Dec 12 at 7:30PM In the Meeting Room. Come and reflect on some of your favorite Christmas Carols as we look beyond their first verse to discover a beauty that only adds to the joy of Christmas.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe ~ There will be a Festive Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe this Tues-day morning at 8:30AM. Come join in prayer as we honor Our Lady as Patroness of the Americas during this Advent Season and remain with her as she anticipates the birth of her only Son, our Messiah.

FrOM The PASTOr’S PeN

I grew up understanding that May and October were months dedicated to Mary. Each Spring we had our procession and May Crowning at my grammar school. It was a big deal as we all got to ditch our plain school uniforms and wear our Sunday finest. I still remember the long procession as the 600 or so of us made our way around the block. Each class was lead by eighth grade girls who always looked like princesses and carried fragrant flowers that would adorn our Lady’s Altar in the church. Likewise, every October in the Fall we would pray the Rosary over in church at Wednesday afternoon devotions. Understandably those two months of May and October were “Mary’s Months.” Yet when I entered the seminary and studied theology and later the Church’s Liturgy, I realized that Mary had “her Own Season” on the Church calendar: the Season of Advent. First of all, Advent has two beautiful feasts of Mary. The first which we celebrated last Friday, when we recall the beginning of Mary’s life in the womb of St. Anne. Mary was conceived preserved free of sin because later on she herself would conceive the Sinless One who would wash away our sins in his own Blood. The other which we celebrate this Tuesday as all of the Americas look to Guadalupe Mexico where Mary revealed herself to the poor Juan Diego who represents each of us in our various needs: she never shuns us. More importantly, Mary is the perfect example of welcoming God’s Presence completely. Throughout her life she was ever attentive of her Son, pondering what His life and ministry meant for herself and for her world. Of course His Incarnation, which Advent prepares us to recall, is the ultimate “in-breaking” where humanity can actually welcome the Divine. Observing these feasts is a great start to celebrating this Marian Season. But there is more, of course. Maybe now is the opportunity to return to praying the Rosary. Maybe it’s the chance to teach how to pray, or pray together with, the next generations of “Mary’s children.” God Bless!

PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD. Over the next ten months you will be in-vited to pray at home for more priests. We

invite individual parishioners & families to sign up to re-ceive a beautiful Good Shepherd statue into their home for one or two weeks and to pray for priestly vocations. A prayer kit & activity sheets about vocations will be also given to help you through your prayer week. At the end of the week, on Saturdays, we ask you to return the Good Shepherd Statue to the Parish Office so that it may be hand-ed over to another parishioner and/or family on Sunday. You may keep the activity sheets for further prayer and re-flection. Please consider signing up for our Prayer Cam-paign for Priestly Vocations. Simply fill in the form below and return it to the Parish Office or in the collection as soon as possible. Father Chris, Father O’Connor or a member of the Vocations Committee, will contact you soon afterwards about all the details.

Blessing of Baby Jesus Figures Dec 17 10:30 Mass. We invite all our parishioners and families to bring the statue of the Baby Jesus from the nativity scenes in their homes, un-der their Christmas Trees or from their front lawns to the 10:30AM Mass next Sunday for a special bless-ing as we once again recall the Incarnation. May the blessing and these images of Jesus, the Word Made Flesh, remind us that it is Christ’s Mass that is celebrated every December 25th.

Mustard Seed Ministry at 10:30 Mass. At the end of the Opening Prayer children from ages four to seven

will be invited to the lower church to hear the reading(s) in a special way by a trained cate-chist. This may include storytelling, creating a simple craft, singing a song, etc. At the end of the Prayer of the Faithful of the Mass the chil-

dren will return and sit back with their parents and families. For more information see Mrs. Fouche after Mass or call the Rel Ed Office.

Parish Registration ~ We invite anyone who attends our Masses to register in our parish. This will give you the opportunity to be acquainted with the various events, ministers and activi-ties of our parish and enable us to serve you better with your needs.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a con-tinual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of

the newly restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for addi-tional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. The Shepherd Speaks

The Season of Advent is a marvelous time which reawakens in us the expectation of Christ’s return and the memory of his histori-cal coming. It is a season full of hope. It is the Lord’s express invitation from the lips of the Isaiah: “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.” These words open the Book of Comfort, in which the Prophet ad-

dresses the joyous proclamation of liberation to the people in exile. The time of tribulation has ended; the people of Israel can look trust-ingly toward the future: at last they can return to their homeland. - Angelus—7XII14

CHRISTIAN INITIATION. Do you know a family member or friend who is interested in becoming a Catho-lic? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a wonderful process in our parish available to those who feel called to the Catholic Faith. New inquiry classes have be-gun. The RCIA is also available for those Catholics who have not yet received First Eucharist or Confirmation. Call the Rel Ed Office (718-465-8534) for more info.

COMPLIMENTARY EDITIONS OF MAGNIFICAT for the month of Decem-ber are by the doors today. This edition is ideal for preparing for Christmas. Meditate on the daily readings of the sea-son or simply enjoy its Advent Reflec-tions or Biographies of the Saints.

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know our-selves. You know the cares and sufferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us from you. Heal us from every form of sin and violence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love, freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice. We believe you are doing something new, calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life. Amen.

What a beau-tiful sight it will be with hundreds of wrapped gifts in the Baptistery and Altar area. God bless everyone for their Spirit of Giving!

CHRISTMAS CAROL PROCESSION returns to Incar-nation this Saturday at 6:00 PM. All carolers are invited to meet in the parking lot. Then we will be led by the Holy Family through the neighborhood singing Christmas car-ols! Dress warmly, bring a flashlight and jingle bells and enjoy some of your favorite Christmas carols. After-wards we will serve hot chocolate and cookies in the audi-torium. The procession this year will go down 207th Street to 90th Avenue across Francis Lewis Blvd to Hollis turning south onto 204th Street. Then going west onto 93rd Ave-nue where it will turn north on to 202nd Street then west onto 90th Avenue. It will turn south on to 201st and then west onto 93rd Avenue where it will go north onto 199th Street before turning east onto 89th Avenue and back to Incarnation. Capture the Christmas spirit as Incarnation sings songs of the season and keeps Christ in Christmas!

Giving Tree. In the upcoming Season of Giving, a beauti-ful Giving Tree containing decorative gift tags will be placed in the back of the church for the First Sunday of Advent. Parishioners are invited to take the gift tag(s) to

purchase items for Christmas. GREEN tags are for the children at Hour Children in Long Island City. WHITE tags are for those children from St. Mary, Star of the Sea in Far Rockaway, and RED tags are to be given to needy children by Unidos Latinos of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish in Astoria. Everyone is invited to partici-

pate in this year’s Giving Tree – children and adults. Feel free to take more than one gift tag. Join us in the ap-proaching Season of Giving as we celebrate God’s gift of Jesus in our hearts & lives.

Reconciliation. When making your Christmas “To Do List” make sure you have added receiving the Sacrament of Penance. Confessions are on Saturdays from 4 to 4:45PM.

CHRISTMAS PLANTS that will deco-rate our church throughout the Christmas Season may be donated. You may wish to donate IN MEMORY OF or IN HONOR OF a loved one. The donation is $15.00. Christmas donation envelopes are available in the church today. It is only through your generosity that our church is decorated so beautifully for Advent and Christmas. Please return your offering in the collection

or at the Parish Office.

MARTHA MINISTRY. Join with others from the parish in a detailed cleaning of the church at 10:30AM on the Sec-ond Saturday of the month, January 13. For more information please contact: Donna Paul—347-495-0435.

All the parish choirs will participate in this event as the Christ-mas Season continues until Jan 8. Light refresh-ments will be served in the lower church after the service.

ADVENT PARTICIPATION. This year we invite indi-viduals and families to light the Advent wreath placed in

the sanctuary space. On the four Sun-days of Advent, at the 9, 10:30 & 12 Masses, would you like to come for-ward and actively participate in the lighting of the Advent wreath? We hope that this liturgical practice in church will be repeated in everyone’s home around their family Advent wreath throughout the holy season.

Please fill out the form below and place it in the collection basket on Sunday or drop it off at the Parish Office during the week. You will be contacted.
