Chairman’s Chat
The new season is now well underway with plenty of scope for us to go out
and make more films for the coming year. The North West Festival at Chads
is on Saturday November 7th—here’s hoping for a good attendance. I will be
showing films from everyone that put in entries.
I would like to congratulate Ashby Ball on being awarded a well deserved
Fellowship of the IAC for his services to film and his club Southport Movie-
makers for over 66 years. Ashby was a founder member of the club in
1949. He has always given great support to the IAC movement and he has
rarely missed any major functions.
I attended a very special night at Southport MM on Thursday 22nd October, a
tribute night in honour of the late Paul Bagshaw, a variety of his films were
shown including behind the scenes information.
Paul was not only a good film maker as I found out on the night but a very
talented artist and song writer, tributes were paid in his honour by some of his
friends.
The evening concluded with an excellent buffet the only disappointment being
that only myself and Pauline Harrison representing the IAC attended. All
Clubs had been invited by letter or email and it was a shame that no-one from
other clubs in the north west came to honour this special occasion.
The next IAC council meeting is on November 17th at 2pm at Altrincham
please try and come and give some input into the meeting as it would be ap-
preciated

Secretary's Scribbles
The most recent meeting of the Council was held at Altrincham on 22nd September, 2015. Ten members were at the meeting. During the meeting, it was revealed that at the IAC AGM this year, there will be a super 8 film show after the AGM. Perhaps the old vintage projectors, Eumig, Elmo (the light house of projectors, particularly with the Xenon lamp), Bell and Howell and Sankyo, to name but a few, will bring back memories. Times have changed, but with film projectors, it was possible to see the film actually going through the machine, instead of being hidden in a box of electronics. The committee discussed the arrangements for the NW AGM and Film Festival, details of which have ben forwarded to club secretaries. Do please try to support the event. The competition officer is delighted – he has ten entries at the time of writing this column. The Raffle is always very popular, and any donations for prizes would be most welcome. Our source of communication between the Region is, of course Tripod. Our editor, Susan Moore, works hard on producing the magazine and like a lot of editors she is always delighted to receive articles of inter-est from members. Any item of news is always welcome. To conclude the meeting, the Council viewed the entries for the Mermaid and Mini-mermaid competitions, and a movie for each was chosen. If you go the IAC AGM you will see the ones which represent the North West. If anyone is willing to serve on the Council do please, let us know – we meet five times a year.

In April, James Walton became Society Chairman for the 2nd time at the AGM. In May, we entered the
Bolton Movie Challenge; our entry was Derek Belton’s video “Raising the Parapet”.
Student Member, Jonathan Wilson entered the Mersey Ten competition this year
and won with his time lapse video “Precipitant,” a well-deserved success. Pic-
tured here with IAC NW Chairman James Whalley, who presented him with his
Trophy.
In a change to our usual summer routine, we have held some experimental green
screen evenings, organised by Peter Blay. In July, 14 members enjoyed a Socie-
ty Day Out in Port Sunlight with a Blue Badge Guided Tour, lunch at the muse-
um and free time for videoing.
The Society has a new trophy bought in memory of Geoff Welch; it is awarded to the winner of our new
Mini Competition for videos made on the Society Day Out. It was won for the first time by Peter Rogers’
video “A Visit to Ellesmere Port.”
On 23rd July, we visited Poynton & Stockport Movie Makers, in their new headquarters and showed a col-
lection of videos made by WCVS members. We must thank PSM for an enjoyable evening with very good
refreshments.
In August, Elizabeth and Ray Wilson welcomed us to their home for a very enjoyable social afternoon.
The weather was reasonable and the barbecue and buffet excellent.
On 21st September, we celebrated the 90th Birthday of
much loved member Eileen Lamb. Family and friends
gathered to watch Society film and video that she had been
involved in, followed by a wonderful Birthday cake made
by Chairman James Walton.
