What we feel ………The mounting causality rate in our serene Steel City of Jamshedpur has triggered a serious concern at all levels !Gone are the days when the morning newspapers boasted about the glories and milestones of our city……but ….. it now paints a totally horrifying picture with a string of ACCIDENTS that happened the previous night !

What a way to start the day !Piercing a little deeper into the facts and figures we leave a sigh ….to say …. A little bit of alertness would have saved the life !

LETS PICK IN TO SOME SAFETY

RELATED FACTS AND FIGURES

Page 6: IND-ENG-2014-095

Maximum road accidents reported in Steel CityRANCHI: Statistics available with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that 41.8% of the unnatural deaths occurring in the state are linked to road accidents out of which Jamshedpur and Dhanbad have reported the maximum .

ACCIDENTS RATE IN JHARKHANDKiller roads in state claim 17 every dayAlok K N Mishra, TNN | Mar 3, 2013, 06.24AM IST

RANCHI: The newly-constructed highways and expressways may give the impression that Jharkhand is developing fast in terms of a proper road system and is well-connected too. But so far as safety is concerned, one needs to think twice before drawing any conclusion.

About 17 persons dying every day in various road accidents in the state.

A total of 6261 persons lost their lives in 2012 due to road accidents across the state. Traffic SPs conveniently put the blame on lack of awareness about road safety behind these rampant accidents.

Accident is a major cause of deaths in India

Page 11: IND-ENG-2014-095

YOUNGSTERS SPEEDING ON BIKE ARE MOST PRONE TO THIS DANGER

Page 12: IND-ENG-2014-095

We discussed with our teachers, students and also our parents to understand the cause of this problem… While we were trying to understand the situation, we recalled a horrifying incident which took the life of one of our most promising student in a freak road accident… it was a loss which can never be recovered ….we are now left with only lingering memories and a blank place on the second bench to the left where he used to sit ........ it so happened....

What we feel ………

Page 13: IND-ENG-2014-095

What we feel?He had gone to attend the wedding of his uncle…. little did the family know that all the merriment they had in the wedding party from which they were returning would be his last!

He was a young bright and charming boy ,with all the dreams for a bright future, fancying latest gadgets, freaking on continental dishes , swaying on the latest musical notes and a favourite of all his friends and teachers . He left us all for the heavenly abode when their car was severely hit by another speeding car ! He breathed his last with a fatal head injury leaving his parents and sister unconsciously lying on the road , shattered !

Page 14: IND-ENG-2014-095

No words & no deeds are powerful enough to heal the wound of the shattered parents who have lost their world in front of their own eyes. Why can’t we all become more responsible ? Isn’t it time for all of us to wake up to this call ?

What we feel?

Page 15: IND-ENG-2014-095

THE TRIGGER

THIS INCIDENT TRIGGERED OUR FIRST

STEP TOWARDS THE CHANGE....A CHANGE

WHICH IS THE IMMEDIATE CALL OF OUR

SOCIETY .....A CALL OF HUMANITY

SAFETY AWARENESS THE NEED OF THE HOUR

Page 16: IND-ENG-2014-095

What we feel??

Safe Club members organized a meeting with Principal Maám and teachers … a brainstorming session on how to curb down the rate of the accidents. We decided to extend our concern to broader areas of SAFETY in and outside home and school.

Page 17: IND-ENG-2014-095

SERVICE BEGINS AT HOME We started off .... SAFETY observation drive in our own campus..... What we found ........many parents and teachers driving without HELMET !

“Safety is a state of mind. Accident is an absence of mind.” We understood that accident is a result of lack of awareness. So, we decided to conduct a survey to measure the level of awareness of our students. Why only students ??? We decided to include parents and community in this survey. We came across a standard “SURAKSHA” survey designed by SAFE, TATA Steel which included very simple yet relevant parameters in various areas of safety at home like safety in kitchen…..

What we imagine??

Page 20: IND-ENG-2014-095

We extended the questionnaire by adding relevant questions on road, food and electrical safety. A special section on cyber safety was added for senior students. The survey was administered to target population • 300 parents and students• 100 people from the neighbourhood and shopkeepers in the Bistupur market area.

What we imagine??

We understood there was a dire need of creating safety awareness amongst the people .Many ideas came to us like pamphlet distribution, signboard, talk show, seminars, etc. But all these ideas were not appealing to us. Our Principal Maám had attended a session on Cyber Safety .She came up with an idea of organizing a “Safety Mela” which would cover a wide area of safety concerns. We all liked the idea as it would reach out to students and parents in a very meaningful and interesting way through charts, posters, audio- visuals , plays and most importantly live demonstration on disaster management and mock evacuation drills .

What we imagine??
