MORARJIBHAI DESAI NAGAR PRATHMIK SHALA NO. 3
Municipal school with majority children from nearby slums.
When they heard about the ‘Design For Change Contest’ they were most enthused as they felt that now they too could feel the ‘JOY’ of ‘GIVING’
FEEL Started by discussing the problems facing our
society. Children came up with various ideas like:
“Stopping people from having Gutka” – “Stopping people from throwing garbage on the street.” – “Cleaning up their surrounding.”– “Telling people to stop using cars for small distance to save
petrol.” – “Getting more children from slums to school.”– “To ensure the acceptance of special children in our society “
We discussed and agreed to do something for the special children.
MAMTA SCHOOL School for special
(mentally challenged) children from lower socio economic background.
Discussed the idea with the principal and identified two areas to work upon:
Giving love and affection by interacting with them through various activities.
Raising funds for medical and conveyance expenditure.
IMAGINE
Children’s ideas on ways to raise funds: Selling flowers outside temple Making and selling paper bags and
other craft items Delivering news papers Cleaning cars and houses Collecting scrap from their area
Since it was a festive season we decided to hold an exhibition of craft items jointly made by the students of Mamta and Nagar Prathmik Shala.
DO Before the implementation
week we visited the Mamta school so that the children get familiar with each other. They played Antakshri and introduced themselves.
In the implementation week we went to Mamta school daily and worked in teams. – Team 1: Taught dance to
some children– Team 2: Made craft items like
Diyas, Coasters, Rangolis, Pearl Malas, Decorative Envelops and paper bags…
DO• Last day of our visit besides making craft items
we also shared food, played games, we danced, sang songs and enjoyed each and every moment with them.

EXHIBITION Organized at our school. We called all our Mamta friends to join us. Invited over 200 people. 100% sold out!
We raised Rs. 20,000 /- from the sale of the craft items.
But MORE IMPORTANTLY
The kids at Mamta had a good time making new friends and learning new things.
The kids at Prathmik Shala realized that despite being ‘weak’ and ‘underprivileged’ they too have the power to bring change and experience the “Joy of Giving“.
PROFITS EARNED!
