Video Coverage: Independence AV Tech Club The Records in 2015: In 2015, Independence went 8­2 overall and 5­1 in District play, finishing 2nd in the district and qualifying for the IHSAA Playoffs, where they lost to Decorah in the first round. Last season, Charles City finished 3­6 overall record and 1­5 in the district.

The Series: This will be the 9th meeting between these two teams with the first meeting occurring on September 13th, 2002, in Charles City. Currently, Charle City leads the series 5­3­0. Independence is 1­3­0 at home and 2­2­0 on the road with Charles City. The last meeting took place last season at Charles City where Independence won 40­16. Coaching Records: Justin Putz is in his 3rd season as head coach of the Independence Mustangs and 4th overall. Currently, his record at Independence is 9­7­0. His overall coaching record is 14­12­0 in four seasons with three playoff appearances. Darren Bohlen has been the head coach of the Charles City Comets for 4 years, with a 11­22­0 record at Charles City with one playoff appearance. Next Games: Next Friday, Independence will travel to Cedar Rapids Xavier. Charles City will host Vinton­Shellsburg. Last Game: The last game for Independence was a loss at South Tama County 45­8. Honorary Captains : Tonight’s Honorary Captains are celebrating their 50th

anniversary since winning the WaMaC Conference Title. The 1966 Independence Football team finished their season with a 7­1 record, recording wins over North Fayette, Tipton, Vinton­Shellsburg, Anamosa, West Delaware, Maquoketa, and Marion. Even though their only loss was to WaMaC foe Monticello, the 1966 Football team still earned the WaMaC Crown for Independence. The team was lead by head coach Lyle Leinbaugh and assistant coaches Engen and Murray. Team members are: Jerry Hare, Gene Ehlers, Rick Vaughn, Barry Black, Dean Reck, Mike Lorber, Gary Hilmer, Lee Marsh, Doug Hand, Mike Andrews, Bill Vargason, Glenn rouse, Wayne Gleiter, Mike Murray, Curt Ward, Jim Beachler, Jeff Conklin, Roger McMorris, Gary White, Bill Isham, Gary McGill, Dick Hatfield, Keith McGee, Dean Smith, Bob Roloff, Larry Wilkinson, Dennis Hickman, Gregg Lynes, Bob Black, Larry VanLaningam, Steve Schmidt, John Jack, Mike Ghere, Tim Grief, Dennis Walhert, and Alan Kimball. Cross Country

On Saturday, September 24th, the Independence High School and Junior High Cross Country teams will be running in their home Invitational. High School starts at 8:35AM, and the Junior High will be after. Races will take place at the MHI grounds.

On Tuesday, September 27th, the Independence Junior High and High

School teams will be competing in the Jesup Invitational. Races will begin at 4:15PM at the Jesup Golf Course.

On Thursday, September 29th, the Independence High School Cross

Country teams will be in action at Western Dubuque. Races begin at 4:15PM.

The Junior Varsity football team will be playing Charles City on Monday,

September 26th at Charles City High School. The game will kickoff at 6:00PM.

On Tuesday, September 27th, the Independence Junior High Football

teams will be playing West Delaware. The 8th grade will host and the 7th grade will travel to Manchester. Games begin at 4:15PM.

On Friday, September 30th, the Independence Freshmen and Varsity

teams will be in action against Cedar Rapids Xavier. The Freshmen will kickoff at 5:00PM, with the Varsity following at 7:30PM. Games will be at Cedar Rapids Xavier High School.

on Saturday, September 24th at the Linn­Mar High School Marching Invitational.

The Junior High Volleyball teams will be playing Clear Creek­Amana on

Monday, September 26th. 7th Grade will host and 8th Grade will go to Clear Creek­Amana. Games will begin at 4:15PM.

On Monday, September 26th, the Sophomore Volleyball team will be

playing at a tournament in Jesup. Games will begin at 4:15PM.

The Freshmen Volleyball team will be playing Oelwein on Monday, September 26th. The game will start at 6:00PM at the Independence Junior/Senior High School.

On Tuesday, September 27th, the Independence High School Volleyball

Teams will be traveling to South Tama South to take on the Trojans. The Freshmen will play at 5:00PM, Sophomore and Junior Varsity at 6:00PM, then at 7:30PM, the 12th ranked Independence Varsity Squad will take on the South Tama County Trojans. Games will be at South Tama County High School.

On Thursday, September 29th, the Independence Junior High Volleyball

Teams will be playing Vinton­Shellsburg. The 8th Grade will host Vinton­Shellsburg at home, while the 7th Grade will play at Vinton­Shellsburg. Games begin at 4:15PM.

On Thursday, September 29th, the Independence High School Freshmen

and Junior Varsity teams will be in action. The Freshmen will play Cedar Falls Peet at 6:00PM at the Independence High School, the Junior Varsity will play in a Quad at Dike­New Hartford High School starting at 5:00PM.

On Saturday, November 5th, Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos will be returning

to Independence for a performance to raise money for the Independence Wrestling team. Tickets can be purchased for $20, $25, or $30 every Wednesday starting September 14th, from 5­6PM on Main Street at the Independence Junior/Senior High School.
