NOTES

Recording of the Inscriptions

338-341 338-341 338~341

The recording of the inscriptions on the 110 gravestones in Christ Church Cemetery at Ashton has been undertaken by members of the Ottawa Branch of the ontario Genealogical Society. A few of the stones were checked in 1977 by Mrs. Marjorie Moodie. The remaining inscriptions were gathered by Mary and Alan Rayburn in July 1985, with assistance by James Heal.

History

The information on the history of Christ Church, Ashton, is reprinted from the leaflet produced for the 140th Anniversary of the Church on June 23, 1985. The leaflet was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Bobier. The photographs were contributed by Mrs. Marjorie Moodie.

Plot Plans

The numbered plot plan on page vi is from the master plan held by the Secretary of the Christ Church Cemetery Board, Lloyd Henderson.

The plan on page vii of the gravestone arrangement indicates the numbers for each stone that relate to the numbers on the official plot plan. The rows of stones are not as straight as the plot plan implies. For example, the row beginning with 253 on the east side of the church takes a turn behind the church, leaving stones beginning with 318 in the same row as 253 to 272.

Gravestone Inscriptions

The inscriptions are numbered in accordance with the cemetery plot plan. For example 140-144 relates to the five plots indicated on that plot plan as being in the names of Jane Kincaid Fleming (140), Fanny Fleming (141), James Fleming (142), Robert Fleming (143) and George Fleming (144). All these names are inscribed on the single FLEMING stone.

Index

A name underlined in the index indicates a married surname. A name in brackets indicates a maiden name.
