The aimn of this Index is to include all current botanical literature written by Amiiericanis, pLblished in America, or based upon Americani material; the word Anmer- ica beinig used in its broadest sense.

Reviews, and papers which relate exclusively to forestry, agrictulture, lhortictulture, manufactured products of vegetable origin, or laboratory methods are not inicluded, and no attempt is made to index the literature of bacteriology. Aul occasional exception is made in favor of some paper appearing in an American periodical wlhiclh is devoted wlholly to botany. Reprints are not mentioned unless they differ from the originial in some important particular. If users of the Index will call the attenition of the editor to errors or omission their kindness will be appreciated.

This Index is reprinted monthly on cards, and furniished in tllis form to subscribers, at the rate of one cent for eaclh card. Selections of cards are not permlitted ; eachi subscriber must take all cards published during the termli of his subscription.
