A. The Himalayas & Karakoram form the North border. These mountains cut off India from the rest of Asia

C. In the Deccan Plateau there is forest, farmland & minerals

D. Most of India is warm or hot year round. They have three seasons – cool, hot and rainy

A. Agriculture & Industry are equally importantB. More than 2/3 of the people work in agriculture

growing rice, wheat, cotton, tea, sugarcane, and Jute used to make rope & burlap

E. Many of the goods sold in India are made in cottage industry

A. In the 1500s B.C. Aryans moved into the Indus valley and blended with the people creating Hinduism

B. Overtime India was organized into castes that was based on ancestors and determined your job & who you could marry

C. In the 700s Islam was introduced by the Mogul EmpireD. England conquered India in the 1700s and

industrialized the nation but ruled over itE. Mahatmas Gandhi lead nonviolent protest to gain

independence in 1974F. Today India is a federal republic run by a coalition

government

A. 80% of the people are Hindus and believe in reincarnation. It is the goal to come back better

B. Other religions include Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism & Jainism

C. Religion has influenced art and archetecture like the Taj Mahal

A. More than 1 billion people live in India, there are 18 official languages and the majority of the country is overcrowded
